Just remembered Verlisify existed and decided to scroll through his twitter for like five minutes and it was exactly what I expected. He was awful 7 years ago and he is still awful now. Genuinely an absurdly toxic PokeTuber. So glad he is out of the public eye now. He is literally walking rage bait.

i honestly think that we shouldn't talk about the "weirdos" in a community (especially as a joke) unless to point out what they did wrong because when i was an 11 years old i was watching two youtubers play pokemon with each other and whatever joke they made led me to looking up Verlisify and my next 2 years were spent defending that guy on the internet. it was not fun and i regret all of it to this day.

Piece of advice- Never insult someone's intelligence if you are not ABSOLUTELY certain you can prove that they are being dumb consistently. For example, pointing out that Verlisify is a stupid contrarian due to his constant, overly smug defenses of opposing takes even as they don't hold up.

If you truly feel it necessary to call it stupid- Call the argument or the person's behavior as stupid.

As for the 'literal terrorist' bit-

That is a terrorist. Of all the characters in mainline Pokemon- Only Team Plasma really fits this bill. Team Rocket is just a gang. Team Magma/Aqua are eco-terrorists but the lack the 'political' part which...makes them a group without a clear term. Team Galactic are more god complexes. Team Flare is comprised of idiots. Team Skull are just dropout delinquents. The Aether Foundation are just ecologists being ran by a woman with a fucked brain chemistry. Team Yell are just Soccer Fans...so borderline terrorists. Macro Cosmos were just people trying to be prudent.

And even then- Team Star is about as far as an antagonist faction can be without being straight up heroes. Because they're just...a gang of kids who got bullied and lost sight of their goal.

Seriously, the fact that so few people are taking even a cursory glance at the Team Star Story worries me. I mean, if you went over the text without the game's bias in support of them...

That 'bias' is literally just a story decision. As in, the fictional plotline was made with Team Star being the more innocent faction. This isn't real life where facts override a narrative- In fiction, narrative usually determines what is factual in the story. That's how stories work.

Despite what people see online- cases of a writer accidentally making their antagonists factually right is very rare and only works when specific critera are met (that being that the heroes display a lack of moral virtues like mercy, comradery, compassion, perseverance or restraint while the villains display those qualities.) An example of this is the New Guy comic-

The new guy displays virtues like equality, principles and openness while the 'hero' rejects these qualities and instead embraces pettiness. We understand through millenna of social development that a person like the New Guy is good not just on an instinctual level but a factual one as well and that indulging in pettiness is repugnant and self destructive.

Now how does Team Star stack up? Well, ignoring Penny for now-

Giacomo displays the virtue of self-awareness in knowing that he went too far before and hesitates in taking on rules in case he repeats his mistakes.

Mela displays kindness in that she appears only when her teammates are hurt and tries helping you by giving a TM.

Atticus displays honor in trying to help his little friend and protect him.

Eri displays kindness, bravery, forgiveness and compassion in her protectiveness of her underlings and how acceptance of Carmine.

And all of them display the virtue of fairness by accepting defeat and comradery by how much they adore their teams and each other.

I know this seems off topic but...this is gonna be important later.

You realize that Team Star is 100% awful people. It's another one of those "anti-bullying" PSAs written by the actual bullies who lack self-awareness. You know, the one where the "moral" is the victims should apologize to their abusers?

Um...no. This is factually incorrect. The bullies are not victims. We know this for a fact because one of them in the game (Carmine) owns up to how she bullied Eri and we can use her as a baseline for the others. Like how Atticus was bullied for being a weeb or Mela because she was meek. Giacomo and Ortega are a little different since they somewhat instigate it (Giacomo through being overly strict and Ortega through being bratty) but that's still not an excuse.

The "bullies" left at the slightest gesture from Team Star? Sorry, that's not the behavior of bullies; it's the behavior of VICTIMS who fear for their lives after pushing back against their bullies who then go nuclear in response.

... Or it's the behavior of people who think they were picking on the weak and got scared the moment their target stood up for themselves. This is a basic feature of bully stories man.

Yeah I guess you could argue that if we never saw anyone else's side to this...except that we have not only Carmine's input but also the former Director of the Academy, who agrees that the bullies were wrong. We have other sources here- they agree the bullies started it.

Bullies are the ones who go nuclear against pushback. You know, like a Student Council President who does nothing but pass draconian and arbitrary rules? Giacomo is a textbook power-tripping abuser.

This is the ONLY example. Which sounds weird and strict...if you've never been in a formal school environment. As a guy who went to Catholic school- they get on you for not tucking your shirt in. This is pretty normal in those environments. Especially if it's filtered through...say...a VERY strict society like Japan's

And 'Power tripping'?! We don't even know if there would be a punishment, let alone enough of one to warrant any kind of power? And would a team of bully victims really want a guy prone to abusing power on their side?

Giacomo was like, your one shot at a good point and you whacked yourself in the head and then blamed the game for it.

But no, the game says we must SYMPATHIZE and BEFRIEND the Power tripper, the abuser, the egotist, the rick brat, and the narcissist. And we should ESPECIALLY like the one who enabled their violence, provided them weapons, and sparked a gang war.

The criminal part is that the game sides with Team Star and lets them off the hook. But, not ironically. With total sincerity Here's the thing about bullies: They gaslight and manipulate the actual truth. Team Star's story is a Bully's side of the story told credulously.

Bullies usually don't have their 'victims' calling themselves bullies or forgive and welcome in their 'victims' in.

And no shit they weren't punished heavily- the school system FAILED them. That's a PR nightmare.

The biggest problem I have with this is that Pokemon is, first and foremost, a franchise aimed at CHILDREN, the most likely people to trust and take a story at face value, or to interpret a work uncritically. It causes writing like this to ascend from careless to legit harmful.

Kohdok, your average child has the self awareness to understand that the story is not only saying Team Star isn't doing good with the beginning of the game but also that Team Star ARE NOT FUCKING BULLIES.

Only Autistic kids will make that mistake. And you can't account for that.

Put simply: Victims behave like The Bullies Team Star said they were fighting. Bullies behave like Team Star. Clavell is a hack. I was assaulted and battered by bullies day 1 at your school, asshole. Take the cotton out of your ears and retire.

Yeah, your complaint loses all weight and credibility when you so clearly ignore evidence and basic writing techniques that tell you that you're wrong.

Also Penny is NOT considered a saint. In fact, out of all your companions- she's the most prone to acting prickly and aggressive. She even complains about her dad being 'embarrassing' in front of Arven, who barely even HAD a parent. And before you try using this as evidence- she apologizes and recognizes her insensitivity.

They talk about how "Quirky" and "Charming" she is, ignoring the horrible things she has done and the game demands we let her get away with. I legit turned off my console when Clavell refused to let me say "no" to the question "Will you be her friend?"

No really. I think he might actually just be legitimately stupid and we've all just been giving him way too much credit all this time.

1: His Pokemon legends: Arceus review In his PLA "review" he's constantly going back and forth between saying the game is too hard and too easy with zero self awareness. At one point he acts confused that a Pokemon noticed him despite it not looking at him, apparently forgetting sound is a thing.

2: His understanding of cheating He doesn't seem to understand what "Cheating" actually is and why Nintendo bars hacked Pokemon from their official competitions.

Here's the thing. Its not because it gives an unfair advantage. Because it doesn't. Hacked Pokemon are just generated into existence, they have the same stats, move sets, abilities, EVs, IVs as they would have if the person had spent 50+ hours breeding and training them. There is no advantage gained from genning Pokemon unless you intentionally alter the Pokemon, in which case its blatantly obvious the Pokemon has been tampered with.

Nintendo bars generated Pokemon because they cannot legally endorse 3rd party tampering of their software, because this would set a legal precedent. Its a matter of "If one person can do it, everyone can. So nobody can do it." Allowing someone to use generated Pokemon in an official Nintendo funded competition can be seen as endorsement of said 3rd party softwares. This is the same reason they hit people making and/or selling mods with Cease and desist orders. Its not a moral thing, its a legal thing.

3: He seems unable to comprehend what "correct" means. He seems to be under the delusion that if he thinks it, its correct, and if someone else thinks otherwise, its incorrect.

Most of us move past this mindset around age 5.

The Pokemon-Temtem Fan Wars Need To Stop ☮

For awhile now,I’ve been hearing a lot about Temtem, and many YouTubers (especially PokeTubers) have been basing their content off of it lately. Some of the coverage is positive, but some of it is extremely negative. Particularly, those who are creating this narrative that Temtem is a “cash grab” or a “Pokemon-killer”. 

Someone spreading the negative Temtem narrative is the infamous YouTuber Verlisify who I no longer watch because he’s a total fraud looking to spread hate for clicks and subscribers. Him and others like him are picking sides and attacking the other. YouTuber Savij is picking sides with Temtem and is also spreading negativity by launching anti-Pokemon attacks through his videos, so no matter what sides anyone is on in this fan war going on, I don’t like it. Let’s be very clear here: Temtem is a competitor, NOT a killer. In the long run, it’s more likely to HELP Pokemon, not “kill” it. It’s in early access, NOT the final product. In one of Verlisify’s latest videos, he attacks Temtem saying that it’s not worth the $35 and spreading fear and uncertainty about the future of the game. I think this whole fan war is quite possibly one of the dumbest things to happen in the community since the whole National Dex thing, which is saying something. If people in either camp would just drop their bias for a second, there’s nothing that makes either Temtem or Pokemon bad. 

Temtem has glitches, but the developers are constantly updating the game, so they’re learning from the process. But of course, warmongers like Verlisify and Savij would rather spread hate on both sides of the fan war rather than address the simple truth here. What Temtem will do is create a healthy competition for Pokemon. Competition, for anyone unfamiliar with the concept, will allow both games to grow. Pokemon having no competition if anything would be a bad thing, because no competition means no pressure to develop future titles further. With a little pressure, perhaps Pokemon’s growth rate can increase. I by no means think Pokemon is in a bad state right now (FAR from it), but I do think things can improve and I’d love to see it happen. The DLC is an incredible step forward instead of the “3rd version” alternative. Temtem itself looks pretty promising. I’m not personally a big fan of half of the designs, but that’s just my personal taste. I’m sure there are fans out there who are really happy with the designs and I wouldn’t want to steal that happiness from anyone, because I know what it feels like. Pokemon got me through a whole lot in life, and I’m sure Temtem will play a very similar role in someone else’s life. Bottom line is, stop fanning the flames of this petty fan war and just stick to what you like, not what you don’t like. Don’t like Temtem? DON’T SPEND YOUR WHOLE YOUTUBE CAREER ATTACKING IT. Don’t like Pokemon? DON’T SPEND YOUR WHOLE YOUTUBE CAREER ATTACKING IT. Simple. Let’s go our separate ways and agree to disagree.
