I’ve noticed that in II the more serious the episodes get the later they happen in the day. Was this intentional or am I looking into things to much?

Depends on the episode, but I'd say that's generally on the money. I definitely have a habit of wanting to be as silly as possible before smashing into being as serious as possible. Tonal juxtaposition is coooool. But naturally a viewer finds it more difficult to accept #veryserious followed by goofy (that said, s2e12 finagles it fairly well, although the serious -> goofy nature is the point of ep) than goofy followed by serious. Obviously both have their draws, but the latter is usually easier as by starting more lighthearted it's easier to get an audience to care about a character, so when later when something intense happens to them, the viewer is right in their corner.

So, to circle back around to the question, when eps tend to start at the beginning of the day, it's natural that when following goofy -> serious, things get more intense as the day goes on. Not how we always do it, of course, but I quite like it. It's a little more traditional in structure. But I always like thinking of ways to mix it up, as well.
