Getting ready for the start of another 💯. I was reminded of how my running story has helped other veterans put their issues down and pick up running. Blessed beyond dreams. Remembering that 16 years ago I went left when people were saying go right and stop running, I kept going. Now I’m finding out that my story of that has encouraged people to change life decisions they were about to make. I was nominated by a shipmate from the USS Independence. Day 17 of my 22 Pushups Challenge to help raise awareness for veteran suicide prevention. The challenge: 22 push-ups a day for 22 days to raise awareness for combat veterans. There are 22 veterans a day that die from suicide, and this is a small way to raise awareness for that issue. Day 6 of 22 days of doing 22 push-ups a day to raise awareness and donations for The National Alliance to End Veteran Suicide @NA2EVS. I'm doubling up on nominees again today and tapping into my extended Tri Huracan familia of amazing Ironmen and women. First the amazing fearless leader of @TriHuracan, Ismael Rodriguez who has been my inspiration for many things including inspiring me to and being co-frolicker in the water for our New Years Day Polar Bear Plunge and who just continues to add some much good health greatness to the world with his coaching, team and own amazing Ironmen and he just swam 6.5 miles in the Hudson!!! Second I nominate TriHuracan IronHombre Leo Perales @taker17 who is probably going to get the award for most times completing 22 push-ups nominations! Leo is amazing and teaches us all how to get younger every year, is an amazing ironman triathlete and an impairs final family man with the best wife ever, whom I never forget seeing run side by side and cheering me on for my first NYC marathon! Hopefully both of you Coach Ish and Leo can keep this torch passed on this great cause that can hopefully help save the lives of at risk veterans in the name of those who were not saved. The number 22 suicides a day is a statistic that is contested, it's not really known for sure the exact amount of veteran suicides that actually occur per day. But the heart of the truth is something deeper than a statistic, veterans in our country need our help and support. Great post from @kristin_little_yoga #Repost @kristin_little_yoga ・・・ I believe in the powers of yoga for helping manage symptoms of PTSD. There is science and evidence to back it up, so it’s not voodoo hippy shit. Taking care of my body and mind is a priority that I never realized I needed until I was at the lowest of lows. I wanted my mind to just be quiet..even for 1 second. The only way I thought I could get there was to end my life. It’s a really scary place to be. It feels like there is no turning back, no way out of the hole, and it will never end. The day I chose to show up to a private yoga session, was the day my life forever changed. The hole opens up sometimes, but I don’t fall into it for long. Mentally, I’m stronger than I ever was. Physically, I’m getting there again 💪 And I’m happy to do it supporting @lftvet and @makeavetsweat Veteran owned businesses taking care of their own...that’s what we need. If you’re a vet, I urge you to reach out to other vets. Keep that camaraderie alive and strong. Don’t stop fighting for your health. There are other vets out there, fighting for you, ready to help when you say when! You’ve got to want it more than you’ve ever wanted anything in your life. And you’ve got to trust that the process is slow, but it works!! Regardless if you chose weightlifting, yoga, running, ect. There is a support network that is ready for you. This side of the uniform is the most accepting chapter of the military and I’ve not met one veteran who isn’t aware of the statistics we face. I’ve seen more people reach out to their veteran network and pull resources for their brothers and sisters than they ever have. You really are NOT ALONE! My account is always open for your support. Being a wonderful member of @TheMissFires Motorcycle Club many of us were a part of a great talk here @ @UnionGarageNYC tonight from woman adventure motorcycle rider @TracyMotz who spent 3 years riding across the US & down to Argentina!!! Some fellow Miss-Fires joined me in my push-ups for this great cause of our at-risk veterans. Awesome riders Chin @ichitz, who just rode across the US herself, Hannah who just got her first bike a 1971 Honda scrambler and is fixing it herself & Kate who is a new Rider getting her license too. Today in true Miss-Fire form, I nominate Kim @KenneyAwesome who is just the Raddest, from owning two motorcycles, including one with a sidecar to being a skateboarding shredder to boot and just the most positive force. I had the pleasure of doing mine with one of the greatest humans I've met, Shmuel @shmula1 (Shmulik, Shmulie Avital) owner of @SpiegelNYC restaurant and organizer of Spiegel Two Wheel Tuesday's and last night a special Fundraiser for Ovarian Cancer Awareness month and supporting women fighting this horrible disease, including a very special women to Shmulik who is currently fighting Ovarian Cancer. Today I nominate a wonderful new brother on twos and fellow @east_coast_ducati_riders Shawn Kee @skee358, who was supposed to do today's set with me and finally show me some good form to avoid injury but alas he was surely held up at work where he engineers military defense systems and equipment to keep our service men and women safe, and strong, and in turn protect all of us!
