Samantha bought all the tables in a thrift store, painted them black w/chalk paint, sealed in gloss and accented in silver. The frames on the wall are fabric that she made pillows from, and there’s a dinosaur under the table on the left that she found at Home Goods and painted metallic green & silver.

Thebe Estate, Tartosa
I'm a huge Felixandre fan, if you haven't seen his phenomenal work, you are missing out. I think most everyone who builds in Sims 4 knows his fantastic works and his architectural is by far top tier. With the release of his Estate set, I thought the Thebe Estate in Tartosa could use a little makeover.
My inspo was to keep the overall layout of the build. I love that it already has the feel of an established estate, I just wanted to give it a bit more, "Old Money' vibe. I set out to not only find items that kept a modern furnishing, but my IRL love of thrifting and antiquing had me wanting to find pieces that felt like they might be heirloom, or restored finds.
Redecorating is probably one of my favorite parts of the gameplay and has been since I first discovered the Sims 1 in the early 2000s. I hope you guys love it.

After a three year stint in Brisbane, designer manager Sarah Shinners and her husband Patrick Shinners returned home to Melbourne in 2013, with their hearts set on living in the city’s inner north. The couple eventually found the perfect rental home in Clifton Hill, and have remained here ever since.
The house is a Victorian single-fronted terrace, renovated around the 1980s. Many of its original quirks remained when Sarah and Patrick moved in, but the interiors had been subject to an all-beige makeover that they quickly hoped to rectify!
Renovations are not typically allowed in Australian residential rental properties, but Sarah and Patrick’s landlord was fortunately open to cosmetic changes, even agreeing to financially cover some of the value-adding updates. ‘We are lucky to have a very flexible landlord who we have openly discussed our aspirations with, and successfully negotiated things like extended lease periods,’ Sarah says. ‘We also offered to split the cost (as we did for our curtains) or cover the cost (as we did for painting) of works to make them more viable for the landlord and ourselves.’
Changes have been made slowly over the past six years – the most significant being the repainting of the bedrooms, hallway and bathroom. Never one to shy away from colour, the impact has been exactly had Sarah hoped. She explains, ‘So many people when they first saw the brushouts I shared on Instagram commented with a nervous sentiment, “Wow, bold choice” or, “Could be really wrong or really right,” [but] I love pushing the boundaries with colour. I mean what’s the worst that can happen? You paint over it? My only regret is not being able to paint the cornices and ceilings in the same colour as the walls!’
The previously cold bedrooms now feature Dulux’s Gold Dust, which adds incredible impact and warmth to these rooms. ‘We’ve found this colour to be quite the transformer, changing from a sunny yellow when the morning light hits, to a deep caramel on cosy winter evenings,’ she says.
The hallway meanwhile is painted in Dulux’s Lama – a fleshy, peach tone that perfectly offsets the caramel gold. ‘I love it when I’m looking out from one of the bedrooms into the hallway and catch a vignette of both colours side by side,’ Sarah says.
Complementing these colours is a melting pot of art and objects Sarah has created or collected over many years. ‘I see my home as an experimental space where prototypes are trialled, personal creative endeavours are displayed, and items researched during daily work are distilled to create a place that is bold, homely and layered,’ she says.
Every piece in the home is special, but not precious. ‘I want visitors to my home to feel immediately at ease and relaxed – to grab a cup from the kitchen shelf and make themselves a cup of tea, and melt into the couch. There are beautiful, curated things surrounding you, but no pretence or stuffiness to make you feel like you can’t touch anything.’
Next on the Sarah and Patrick’s renovations list… carpet!

I love this! Samantha found this Victorian sofa on Marketplace. She dyed the entire fabric green, painted the wood black, painted these frames and candlestick holder to match, made pillows, and painted the inside of a Christmas ornament green to make a faux crystal ball.
Tumblr media
I love the backlighting and someone posted a pic of Absinth- very cool.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She also posted the paint recipe she used:  2 parts latex house paint in satin (Behr- Park Picnic), 1 part fabric medium (whatever is cheapest will work), and 1 part water. She then sort of stained it in 4 layers by painting it on with a paint brush and waiting for it to dry in between. The first layer kind of looked like someone spilled green juice all over it!

I had the urge to make something, but didnt feel like doing anything from scratch so decided on a maxis makeover. This house I found in the lot bin and came with Teen Style Stuff pack. It had good bones and alot of potential!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before I get into the nitty gritty theres a few items you'll need to go collect and also install BEFORE you install the lot. (Though they are not required so if you dont want them no need to get them!) Klippin Sofa Bed by Klaartje 1 tile seasons vanity by tbudgett Under the stairs master file by MustLuvCatz Under the Stairs love seat and cubby by MustLuvCatz Backless Aqua plus Shower and Bath by HugeLunatic Any Width veil of dreams by dgandy Short single veil of dreams by dgandy Long single veil of dreams by dgandy
So this house has: 4 bedrooms (Master downstairs, 3 upstairs) 2 bathrooms (1 up, 1 down) Sunken lounge/den Kitchen Dining Carport Fenced area for a dog Patio for BBQs Playhouse and it backs onto a little forest track.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I didnt include a ladder to the playhouse, googling ladder sims 2 gives you all sorts of options for that!
Theres a few maxis recolours I've used as well, have packaged those into a seperate folder inside the zip Those are: Invisible bottle recolour of Juiced Shelf by Celebkiridhel Veil of dreams in blue and cream by Liz Ikea Shower Curtain for shower/bath by Shastakiss Blue Shower curtain for Shower stall by kjkjljkjkjljkj
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A note about the 2 steps down to the lounge area: It is usable yay! In testing though I noticed sims would sit on the chairs, thats just as we want. But then when I clicked on them to watch tv they got up and stood at the top of the steps. Realised this was because I'd palced the tv on the next level up. I did place it on the level down and used An_dz's television placement mod to shift it, but sadly it didnt shift far enough above the fireplace. But Sims would watch it there. So made the decision to leave it where it, as I like it. You're welcome to delete a chair and add a tv in the corner if you wish!

When uploading pictures I realised I forgot to add in a chair for the desk in the space bedroom, whoops.

Makeover a Room With Home Decorating Wallpaper
Tumblr media
Upon entering a house, people will almost always notice the walls first since they are the largest surface area in any given room. The designs on the wall will attract anyone's attention, and even if there's luxurious furniture and decor all around, if the walls aren't done well, the room doesn't light up the way it's supposed to. Simply put, walls play a crucial role in interior planning and design. Choosing the right home decorating wallpaper is elemental in giving any room that added vivacity. If you have any sort of questions relating to where and how you can make use of Geometric Pattern Wallpaper, you can contact us at the web site. You can revamp a room wall without completely repositioning the furniture, or buying a range of new decor, or severely shifting the room's theme. If one is already satisfied with the way things are, a quick change in wallpaper will instantly liven up a room and change its whole feel and look. The most important factor here is choosing the right wallpaper and wall paper border to incorporate to the rest of the room's overall theme and structure. So how do you pick the right design of home decorating wallpaper that will perfectly blend with the entire room and its furniture? First, you will need to consider the existing theme of the room as well as the details of the furniture and other fixtures. Is it contemporary? Country? Western? American? Victorian or French perhaps? What about the dominant colors and shades of the furniture and decor? Your choice of home decorating wallpaper and wall paper border should balance well with everything. The wallpaper - its shade, pattern and texture -- should not be too overpowering, nor should it be too insubstantial or simple that it won't be able to create the effect you want. Mixing and matching wallpaper and wall paper borders is a great way to boost any room too. Reading home improvement magazines helps in deciding what colors and patterns blend well with certain motifs. Consulting with an interior designer is a great way to deal with such dilemma, but take note that professional services can be expensive. After initially deciding what pattern your wallpaper mural and wall paper border should be, make a list of the top 5 designs that you want, then ask several wallpaper companies for samples of the designs you chose. Once you receive the designs, paste them on your walls for a few days and try to discern which home decorating wallpaper suits your style best. You can also place it on your furniture, sofa and decor to see which ones match best. An important thing to consider before purchasing wall paper border or home decorating wallpaper is the condition of your walls. Crooked walls look better when covered with wallpaper designed with accentuated stripes. Floral murals can effectively hide cracks or mask a room's unconventional shape. For walls with a few imperfections and cracks, faux finish wallpaper can effectively hide them as well. The room itself is another thing to take into account when considering various types of wallpaper materials. If you are going to remodel the living room and the dining room, go for paper wallpaper. For walls that need to have easy-to-clean surfaces, such as those in the kitchen, the bathroom, and the children's room, you should opt for vinyl or vinyl-coated home decorating wallpaper. Vinyl wallpapers are more durable than those made of paper, making them a great choice for rooms where wallpaper suffers more wear-and-tear than most other spaces within the home.

I’m starting a new Uberhood, with Belladonna Cove as the base neighbourhood. I then added Pleasantview, Strangetown and Veronaville as shopping districts. Plus Downtown. I’ve been working my way through, making over lots and Sims, plus playing each household until Monday midnight so they are all starting at the same place. I’ve been doing my makeovers of Pleasantview and I felt it was somewhat lacking in amenities so I’ve added a load of community lots. So far I’ve built a diner and a bar/nightclub. So here’s The Greasy Spork and The Blue Llama, playtested by Trisha Traveller.
The Greasy Spork is a traditional American style diner, or at least what I know of them from pop culture. it’s on a 3 by 1 lot, so it’s very narrow but I’m really pleased with how it came out. Everything works the way it should and it plays fine, with plenty of seating and no routing problems. It is somewhat based on The Two Whales from Life is Strange, which delighted my other half.
The Blue Llama is an old Victorian pub that has been recently renovated. The building is based on a London pub I used to live and work in, the name is even an homage. It has two floors and an outside area. The downstairs is a bar with stage for bands to perform, it also has a photobooth and a vending machine in the hall. The upstairs is a nightclub with DJ booth, light up dance floor and the spinning thing from Nightlife. The bathrooms are also upstairs. Outside is a grill, some tables and sofa seating plus a screened off hot tub for your private woohooing needs. Again it’s been playtested and everything works as it should, although I don’t understand why the sims all dance huddled around the DJ booth instead of using the lovely big dance floor. Very odd.

5 of the Best Kinds of Windows
There are a lot of areas you can focus on when undertaking home improvement projects. People tend to focus on extending their property, converting unused storage space such as the attic into an additional room, or having a new kitchen or bathroom suite installed.
These are all great improvements and will help boost your home’s value, but quality windows can do the same. They can also greatly improve the appearance of your home if you choose the right style. Here are 5 of the best kinds of windows to consider for your next home makeover project.
1.   Skylights
Natural light is good for you, so getting as much of it into your home as you can is important. This is why skylight windows are so fantastic! They utilize the roof space and can help flood a room with natural light. After all, it’s always nice to sit back and watch the clouds from the comfort of your sofa or bed. Of course, having skylights installed will all depend on the space and condition of your roof, but if it’s possible to have them put in should you consider it. For a more interesting look, why not have a stained glass skylight for some vintage glamor?
2.   Sash Windows
Sash windows are another great way to add personality to your home. They inspire a nostalgic feel, reminiscent of old Victorian houses and quaint cottages. If you’re looking for something simple but with a bit more character than standard issue windows, sash windows could be the right choice for you. Specialist companies like sash windows London and other similar businesses are a good place to start in your search for the perfect window and can provide a range of designs for you to choose from.
3.   Picture Windows
These kinds of windows are ideal for homes based out in the countryside with beautiful, sweeping vistas that go on for miles. Like the name suggests, these windows frame your view perfectly and transform it into a work of art. They would also work nicely as bedroom windows so you can enjoy the view along with breakfast in bed, or for studies and reading rooms. They will make all that stunning nature feel much closer to you, flood the rooms with light, and create an overall more calming atmosphere in your home.
4.   Arched Windows
Arched windows look great in any home but are usually found in factory or warehouse conversions or older properties. They certainly have a sophisticated feel to them and make a property look grander, but if you don’t already have these in place you might have to do some structural work on the walls before you can have these installed.
5.   Bay Windows
Again, these are more commonly found in period properties; however, they are still incorporated into some modern build designs. Bay windows help to add a little extra space into rooms and can be turned into a fabulous little reading nook or simply a cozy spot to watch the world go by.
Windows can dramatically change the appearance of a property. Think about how swapping yours for one of these styles could increase your home’s curb appeal.

Door Hardware Helps Pull
So you have decided to undertake a home remodeling project, and you think you've thought of everything. Fresh paint for the walls, perhaps some new carpeting...if you are redoing the kitchen, new door hardware cabinetry, maybe the same if you are redoing the bath. The big things like these, as well as decorative touches like window treatments, rugs, throw pillows on the sofas and chairs, and pictures for the walls, are always the things we think about first when we give a room in our home a makeover, regardless of what room that might be.
But if you have not considered also updating your door hardware in the course of your home improvements, you are missing out on a change you can make that will really give the new décor of the room a finished, pulled together look. In that way, it will have a big impact on the overall look and feel of the room, even though it might sound like a small detail to worry over at first blush. In the home décor business, plain and stodgy door knobs are a thing of the past - though, of course, you can still use those if they are what floats your boat - and decorative hardware has become increasingly popular. With decorative door hardware, you can dress up your door in the same way you dress up a window with a new set of drapes or add a pretty vase to an end table or mantelpiece. They are a way to add one more touch of style to the room.
Decorative door hardware is available in an amazing array of shapes, colors, styles and finishes, so you can't help but find some pieces that fit in with the room's color scheme and style perfectly. For nature lovers, you can find door knobs in the shape of flowers or made from natural materials like wood and stone. You can even find door levers shaped like small branches. For elegant and Victorian style rooms, choose glass door knobs with beveled edges that catch the light.
From ornate wrought iron to smooth antique brass to stainless steel and everything in between, choosing beautiful decorative door hardware will add that perfect finishing touch to your room, and since adding new hardware to a door is an easy do it yourself project and the pieces themselves are relatively inexpensive, you can complete the project in a few hours and have a new room accent you can be proud of without breaking the bank or having to call in a professional.

Short stay: Country Living St. George Hotel, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, UK
Every room looks as if it’s been tastefully curated for a magazine shoot – which is no surprise as Country Living Magazine is bringing country chic to urban stays in what was orginally a grand Edwardian mansion.
A rambling Grade 2 listed building was the perfect candidate for a classy makeover that name-checks Regency taste with wide-stripped high-backed chairs and the occasional classically styled alabaster bust.
It is as if the country squire has taken a cool interior designer for a wife who has chucked out the chintz. Big bold statement canvasses of Yorkshire landscapes bring the countryside into this peaceful urban oasis.
The welcome
Reception is part of the open plan cafe / lounge with two comfy chairs to slump into after your travels. It’s a warm welcome, help with luggage is followed by tea or coffee.
And there’s a small box of Country Living chocolates in your room too.
The rooms
In the premier double rooms, with five-foot beds, a plush sofa dressed with duck-print cushions immediately strikes a leisurely note of comfort. Light-giving cream walls contrast with dark grey woodwork. It’s all further brightened by a burst of colour from fresh pink orchids. Retro black telephones and traditional style alarm clocks nostalgically step-back to an era before digitalisation.
There are two fans for balmy summer days. Bronte woolly throw, by Moon, for chilly winter nights.
The bathroom
In a eclectic style statement designer Oliver Redfern takes a variety of single tiles, in black-and-white geometric designs, from Ted Baker’s wide range, to decorate the bathroom.
There’s a spacious rainfall shower and a separate fair-sized bath with Victorian style silver finish fittings. A generous supply of toiletries are sourced from Harrogate’s very own H2K.
The facilities
No spa but why would you need one when Harrogate’s famed Turkish Baths, with their huge array of treatments, are just a 90 second walk away?
Country Living is big on relaxing airy lounges with more chairs and sofas than a Sofology showroom.
Harrogate with its vibrantly planted and immaculate tended public formal gardens does civic pride better than most. Look out onto those gardens and cascading hanging baskets from the comfort of the Drawing Room. Meanwhile a quintessential country house library, leather-bound books, features a pool table too. Tempting to grab a drink from the Dog and Duck bar and lose yourself in a book.
Taking the green of the original stained glass window,  the Swaledale Restaurant runs with a theme of a distinguished light olive green. Edgy brass exposed-filament light-fittings, hanging from white stucco ceilings, introduce a contemporary note to a dining room featuring the symmetry of tall Palladian pillars.
There’s a menu that plays on the Country House theme: locally sourced and seasonal wherever possible. A starter of crab, contrasted with delicate crisp flavours of thinly sliced local apple, comes from Whitby. There’s a zingy chutney, like granny used to make, accompanying pressed duck. Similarly the chef’s recommendation of Dales bred lamb is another local winner.
Unsurprisingly the Swaledale Restaurant is popular with locals for pre-theatre dinners, so bookings from 7.30 pm tend to be more relaxed.
The location
Forget your car and park-up for a few days. Country Living St George is in the heart of Harrogate, opposite the theatre and close to the original Pump Room, for the famous spa waters, that is now a museum.
If you go on a shopping spree in the Montpelier Quarter of over fifty independent shops, bars and cafes it is just a few minutes back to the hotel.

Review: Dunalastair Hotel Suites
This five-star hotel in the Scottish Highlands is a welcome surprise in rural Perthshire
In the small village of Kinloch Rannoch, right on the village square, is this light grey stone Victorian building, which for many years housed a more humble Highlands inn, before a sophisticated makeover a few years ago turned it into a luxury hotel.
Credit: Stephen Bennett Photography
This part of Perthshire is popular with outdoorsy types – entry point to the desolate sweep of boggy moorland known as Rannoch Moor is just 18 miles away at Rannoch Station (where there is a very good tearoom) and the munro of Schiehallion with its unmistakable conical appearance can be seen from some rooms.
With this in mind, you could argue that a Highland inn would be more suited to these parts. Indeed, the grandness of the hotel is slightly at odds with the modest village setting, which sits at the tip of Loch Rannoch: there’s a little café and a gallery just off the square, and cross a stone bridge and you’ll find a small post office-cum-grocery store and not much else.
However, while you might expect a muddy-boot type of affair, not everyone comes here to bag munros and get all grubby (though there is a boot room if you do). If you like a few more comforts amid spectacular scenery, then this could be the place for you.
It’s certainly a place to feel pampered. From the moment you step through the door, there’s a luxury feel: the immaculate reception is warm and welcoming with stripped down wood in muted colours having a calming, almost spa-like effect, and local artworks line the walls as you make your way to your room.
In the rooms the important stuff is done right. Handcrafted beds are fitted with Egyptian cotton bed sheets, topped off with the plumpest of pillows. There are bathrobes and slippers to make you feel as home and the over-sized walk-in Grohe showers are a dream (particularly for anyone who has managed a hike).
Downstairs the hotel has more of a Soho House vibe than Perthshire hotel. The lounge is on the site where the village pub once was and while some locals have been put out by its smartened up appearance, if you didn’t know it had once been here, you wouldn’t miss it. This is a relaxing area with comfy velvet sofas and giant lampshades, perfect for a pre- or post-dinner drink.
Talking of which, just off this room is the restaurant, Edina’s, which looks out over a pretty courtyard. Ah yes the courtyard, visit in the right season and red stags have been known to wander in, so you can watch them as you get stuck into a dinner of pan-seared salmon or Perthshire beef, with the occasional amuse bouche thrown in.
If you don’t luck out with the wandering deer, a short walk out of the village (or an even shorter drive) will bring you to a deer park where you can see them from a gate. Alternatively, head northeast into the Cairngorms where you can join a trip to see Britain’s only herd of free-roaming reindeer. A truly unforgettable experience.

This Armadale residence is an incredible example of what can be achieved when two like-minded creative practitioners collaborate in the design process. The Victorian Terrace is the home of Penelope Cohen, creative director of Australian fashion label Skin and Threads. Penny engaged stellar interior designer Simone Haag to rework the living room and ‘ensure this grand old dame of a Victorian had a contemporary and feminine sensibility, with a fashionable edge.’
Incredibly, Simone was also involved in the original design of this home many years prior, whilst working at her former workplace, Hecker Guthrie. When Penelope purchased the house eight years later, she engaged Simone to revamp the space, with a fresh new brief. Simone explains ‘this time around, the lady of the house and myself worked up a scheme which is considerably more feminine in its approach.’
Simone describes her intention of imbuing the home with an atmosphere of ‘romance and frivolity.’ The makeover celebrates colour, introducing plush plum, navy and mustard hues, along with gold marble with terrazzo. The collection of slightly miss-matched chairs mimic the tones of the Colin Pennock painting that hangs in the room.
As Penny and her husband are art lovers with a rich collection of works, they needed ‘very little direction on the art front’. Instead, Simone strategically considered how to use the spaces below eye-level, grounding the room with a custom designed patterned rug and plush upholstery, and curating an eclectic collection of ceramics and art objects, displayed on those spectacular Skagerak bookshelves.
Simone highlights the importance of making all spaces in the home comfortable and engaging, ‘where the good room isn’t reserved only for special occasions.’ Her approach here merges fashion, form, colour and texture, through a thoughtful combination of modern and vintage items – including Italian 1950’s chairs, a vintage a bar cart and Danish lamps. Italian and Scandinavian inspiration, with a distinctly Melbourne outcome.
