Broken Bird

She wears a long, frilly dress

With fingerless gloves to adorn her caress

She wears heels covered in spikes that come to her knees

With chokers and ribbons for accessories

Her skin pale as snow, her clothes as black as coal

People like to stare whenever she goes for a stroll

Yes, the bird is beautiful, but she is also broken

Hiding beneath trauma left unsung and unspoken

She lives in a cage covered in many a sharp spike

To hide from people that may want to strike

Not only with flying fist where the lightest concern is getting hurt

But also words that diminish, exclude, and are curt

Yes, the bird is beautiful, but she is also broken

People only see the pretty exterior

They tell the bird that she should be cheerier

And she knows that her answer must be silence

But she won't act different for another's convenience

If they only knew how she thought

They wouldn't do the same for her, they'd let her rot

Don't say that you know the bird if you haven't heard her sing

The things that she's been through might make your head ring

Bashing her head against the bars of her cage

Thoughts

I don't really mind random compliments when I go out, I've been told I look like something from the Corpse's Bride. Which is ironic, since Tim Burten films is the one mainstream goth thing. So people who don't know anything about goths know about it. And my outfits don't really look much like anything from Corpse's Bride, except they are black and frilly, so... they don't know what they're talking about. Worse is when I get the same comparison when I'm wearing my more deathrocker outfits...

But the real issue is people really only look at the surface level of other people. Yeah, I'm pretty, and I like being told that sometimes, but it doesn't help with how much I'm hurting constantly. I would need someone willing to have a deeper relationship with me. You see the problem.
