Type of Holiday Brit? - Lando Norris x Reader

Plot: You and Lando, try and book a holiday with something you both want to do.

“Okay, but you don’t understand” you groaned to Lando as you were scrolling through multiple different travel agents on your laptop.

Tui, Virgin, British Airways.

“I think i do underhand baby” Lando chuckles back, looking over your shoulder at the tab your currently scrolling through.

“Just because your the Impulsive type of Holiday Brit doesn’t mean we have to do just that” you say, closing your laptop lid, so it’s ajar the screen still lighting up the dimming room.

“Type of Holiday Brit? What on Earth do you mean?” He chuckles having no clue what you are going in about.

“There are four different types of holidayers in the UK!” You exclaim as if it’s common knowledge that Lando should know and it’s almost appalling that he doesn’t.

“Okay and what are the four types, talk me through them” he grins placing his phone down on the sofa which would get lost in the next five seconds and he’d complain about later in when he couldn’t find it, before placing his full attention on you.

“Well there’s type one which is the UK Enjoyers where they go to different places in the UK on holiday, whether that be like … CenterParks or a Caravan down in Dorset and don’t own a passport and have never been or thought of going outside the UK” you explain and Lando nods, trying to keep himself from smiling too much but hearing you speak like this he can’t help it.

“Right okay, yeah I’ve never ever done that” he nods guessing he isn’t that type.

“Yeah that’s because you’re a rich kid holidayer!” You exclaim only for him to cock his eyebrow in amusement.

“Sorry?” He laughs asking while crossing his arms.

“Okay, so rich kid is like the kids I was always really really jealous of because they would go anywhere. Even if that means staying in New York’s finest hotel that is a room only room while paying for all your food while you are there! Or they go caving in Vietnam over winter break before going skiing in Finland after clubbing in Bali with Martin Garrixs” you prod at him, making him playing hit your shoulder knowing your were right.

“Okay okay, so I have some cool holidays! But what’s the issue with them! Why don’t you want to go on the rich kid holidays” he laughs.

“Because I’m an All Inclusive Holidayer” you say as if it’s obvious.

“Right! Of course of course” Lando laughs again before waiting for your explanation.

“I was brought up being used to all inclusive holidays in Greece, Italy, Spain, and then sometimes we’d get to go somewhere real far like the Caribbean. Beach holidays purely for relaxing. And your holidays don’t seem very relaxing… you’re always and I mean always doing something on them. And I don’t know how you can’t just relax” you chuckle explaining why you love your little beachy holidays so much.

“Okay okay. And the last one?” He asks.

“You have the Re-occurrers. They have their set destination and just keep going back because it’s the in budget comfortable choice. Like they keep going back to Disney World, or Mallorca or New York because they know it, don’t get bored by it and it’s the safe option” you smile having it all sussed out.

“Mmmm I think i would find that rather boring, wouldn’t you? There’s so many places but you stick to the same one?! Crazy” he joins in, in an almost teasing voice.

“I know right, like my parents when we would go on holiday, they’d never take me to the same place twice so that I could see as much of the world as possible!” You exclaim not realising he is in fact mocking you.

“So what, you want to do an all inclusive holiday?” He asks pulling back open your laptop and looking at some of the destinations you had in the search bars.

“We’ll maybe not just all inclusive but I would like to see you relax a little. You know loud around a pool in a hot country with a cocktail by my side and some beachy music to go along with it. But then maybe afterwards we can go do rich kid travelling for the rest of the summer break? If you aren’t needed in Monaco or Woking?” You ask, looking over his expression.

“Mmmmm so how about we book a nice 2 week all inclusive holiday. We come back to the UK. We see family and friends for a little bit while I get some work stuff done, and then we can do my type of holiday and invite Max and Pietra with us?” He asks, and you make a thinking face for a second before a big grin spreads on your face and you nod excitedly.

“I love that plan! Let’s start looking at the all inclusive first, I definitely think we should upgrade our tickets wherever we go. I know you’d struggle in economy” you poke at him and he nods, not because of the comfort side, even though he will never complain in first class or on Max’a private jet but it’s more for security reasons than anything.

“So I was thinking that maybe we could look at going …” you start but Lando gets lost halfway through distracted by the way you look right now. Excitedly talking to him about holiday destinations, a new sparkle in your eye at the prospect of some uninterrupted time with Lando.

He loved your more than anything and would do just about anything to have this look that you’ve got right now constantly on your face.

“Oooo look this one looks good! In the Maldives and look Lan there’s even a little slide going into the sea” you grin looking at the fancy and expensive looking hut in the middle of the sea.

“And look at this! Underwater dining, have you ever eaten with a shark above you?” You ask excitedly making Lando laugh and cuddle into you as you skim through the pictures to get a better look.

Eventually Lando tells you not to jump the gun on the first one you see and to continue you’re search.

“Or this one in Antigua, woah look at the beach! ITS MASSIVE” you say as you point at the white sandy beach.

“It’s nice but I think the bathroom looks a little small, I prefer the one in the Maldives for sure! Onto the next” he grins.

“Oh look at this, it’s beautiful” you say looking at the location where the palm trees hang over the Villa and the pool looks like it’s been built into the beach itself.

“Now I like this one! Where is this?” He asks clicking the pen.

“Wait when did you get a pen and pad” you ask looking at him.

“Well we need to write down the ones we like right?” He says pinching your side making your squeal in high delight that he’s helping and getting involved and from the sensation of his pinch.

You turn round fully, focus completely off your laptop and now into your loving and doting boyfriend.

“I love you so much” you say looking into his eyes, and a sigh of pure happiness escapes him as you guys hold into eye contact. You lean in after a while placing a soft kiss of his lips, gripping to the back of his neck, playing with the loose curls at the base.

“I love you too baby, now, where was that last destination. The quicker we choose somewhere the quicker we can get to bed” he winks and you shake your head laughing before sitting back in his lap leaning against him re-opening your laptop lid showing the last location that there was.

“It was Mozambique, I’d never have thought of going somewhere this beautiful when i was younger” you smile.

Phu Quoc + Weiterreise nach Sapa (18.-22.9.)

Wir fliegen auf die Insel Phu Quoc, ganz im Süden Vietnams! Wir erhoffen uns tollen Strand, tollen Pool, tolle Natur und ganz viel Ruhe.

Wir gönnen uns unsere bisher teuerste Unterkunft in Vietnam (45€ pro Nacht für das Zimmer mit Frühstück, lol) und fliegen früh morgens von Danang los. Bamboo Airways ist zwar wortwörtlich Holzklasse (und Torbens liebster Wortwitz), aber es klappt alles wie am Schnürchen und wir kommen pünktlich an.

Am Airport wollen wir uns über Grab ein Taxi bestellen, werden aber währenddessen von einem Fahrer angesprochen, der uns einen guten Preis macht, und fahren los. Der erste Eindruck von der Insel ist nicht besonders gut, denn die Landschaft ist unglaublich zugemüllt. Überall brennt es, es ist alles voller Straßenhunde und ziemlich dreckig, die Menschen leben mit dem Wenigsten. In fast schon skurrilem Kontrast dazu werden hier hinter Holzwänden für Milliardensummen riesige abgeschottete Luxusquartiere für europäische Touristen gebaut, es gibt sogar ein ganzes Viertel, das Europa nachempfunden ist - eine Geisterstadt, wie die Locals sagen, denn hier stehen fast alle Häuser (noch) leer und es ist fast niemand auf den Straßen.

Nach einer halben Stunde erreichen wir unsere Unterkunft - eine Vielzahl von Bungalows, ein Haupthaus mit Restaurant und ein toller Pool mit eigenem kleinen Strandzugang. Es ist traumhaft hier, und noch irgendwie ursprünglich - die Zimmer beherbergen neben uns auch Geckos, Mücken, Spinnen und andere Insekten, das Badezimmer ist nach draußen offen, die ganze Anlage ist von Kokospalmen gesäumt, das Personal ist ausschließlich vietnamesisch und insgesamt recht jung. Die Liegen sind hart und die Auflagen etwas durchgelegen, aber all das macht es für uns irgendwie heimelig. Am Anfang sind wir nur 6 Gäste und die Atmosphäre ist fast schon familiär.

Wir lassen es ruhig angehen, ich nutze viel Zeit zum Lesen und Sonnen, Torben genießt das Meer und den Strand. Abends essen wir entweder im Restaurant (sehr sehr lecker, aber auch gehobenes Preissegment) oder fahren mit den absolut vernachlässigten Fahrrädern ins nächste Dorf zum Essen. An einem Tag leihen wir uns einen Roller aus und machen eine kleine Wanderung zu einem Wasserfall sowie einen Abstecher zum angeblich schönsten Strand der Insel - hier sind wir von den Müllbergen, der Touristenabzocke und der dröhnenden Musik schockiert. Am Donnerstag machen wir eine geführte Bootstour zu drei ganz kleinen Inseln und gehen vor den Inseln schnorcheln, was wirklich super viel Spaß macht.

Insgesamt war unsere Unterkunft und der Aufenthalt dort ein Traum, die Insel würden wir aber nicht unbedingt weiterempfehlen.

Am Freitag geht es mit demselben Fahrer zurück zum Airport und von dort aus zurück nach Hanoi. Am Abend vorher geht noch alles schief, denn die gebuchte Unterkunft für die erste Nacht am neuen Ziel sagt uns wegen Überbuchung ab und der Flug wird drei Stunden nach hinten geschoben, wodurch wir unseren bereits gebuchten Bus von Hanoi nach Sapa verpassen. Flexibilität ist alles, also buchen wir eine neue Unterkunft und ich kontaktiere das Busunternehmen per WhatsApp, kriege aber auf meine Problemschilderung nur ein 'Hi' zurück. Wir beschließen, die Landung abzuwarten und dann vor Ort spontan einen anderen Bus zu finden.

Das erweist sich als gute Idee, denn der bereits verschobene Flug hat nochmal eine Stunde Verspätung. Die Abfertigung am Airport ist auch nichts für schwache Nerven: Beim Schalter dauert es -wie immer hier- ewig und die nächste Person drängelt an den Schalter, bevor wir überhaupt unsere Tickets haben. Torben versucht es noch auf die nette Tour bei der Dränglerin, aber sie ist unbeeindruckt. Mit dem genervtesten "would you mind", das ich aufbringen kann, dränge ich sie zurück. Auch an der Sicherheitskontrolle wird fleißig geschoben, überholt und unter Absperrungen hindurchgetaucht. Dieser ungeordnete Alptraum wird dann schließlich nur noch vom Flug selbst übertroffen, auf dem wir fast die einzigen Nicht-Vietnamesen sind und alle um uns herum an ihren lautstark plärrenden Handys hängen (absoluter Bonus: der stark hustende und rotzende Kerl direkt hinter uns, ich muss an die Pneumokokken-Impfung denken, die wir nicht für nötig hielten). Von Kopfhörern halten die hier gar nichts, ebenso wenig wie von Rücksichtnahme auf das Gehör anderer. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt bin ich schwer genervt, was sich noch verstärkt, als kurz vor dem Abflug sich auf einmal der Busfahrer auf meinem Handy meldet und mir in super Englisch mitteilt, dass sie uns jetzt nicht mehr mitnehmen können - ach was!

In Hanoi angekommen, stolpere ich dankbar aus dem Flugzeug. In der Zwischenzeit hat der Busfahrer mich dreimal bei WhatsApp angerufen und mir geschrieben, dass wir einen anderen Bus um 19:30 nehmen können (geplant war 16 Uhr, und wieso kann der auf einmal so gut Englisch und ist so hilfsbereit?!). Ich weiß nicht, wie dieses System funktioniert, aber irgendwie läuft es. Nachdem wir etwas herumgeirrt sind und ich schließlich dem Busunternehmen ein Foto von unserem Standort am Flughafenausgang schicke, sammelt uns ein Minibus ein und bringt uns zu einer Art Büro, wo wir Papiertickets bekommen. Mit 50 Minuten Verspätung kommt der Bus, es ist wieder ein Schlafbus mit Kabinen. Allerdings müssen Torben und ich uns wegen der Last Minute Umbuchung eine Kabine teilen und es ist ziemlich eng und unbequem. Bis wir in Sapa ankommen, ist es dann auch 2 Uhr nachts. Noch schnell 10 Minuten Fußweg und dann können wir endlich in unser bisher dreckigstes und fensterloses Zimmer einchecken - für ein paar Stunden Schlaf muss das reichen, wir sind hundemüde.

It is no wonder because Bali offers a wonderful climate, beautiful nature, relatively affordable living costs, and a fairly developed infrastructure.

What should you take care of in advance if you are flying to Indonesia for a long time?

1. Entry requirements for Indonesia

To enter the country, you will need:

A valid passport with a remaining validity of at least 6 months.

A visa, which you can obtain upon arrival at the airport or seek assistance from us to obtain.

Medical insurance is not mandatory but strongly recommended, as healthcare on the island can be expensive.

Vaccination certificates are no longer required, as they were abolished on June 9, 2023.

A return ticket, which may be requested before boarding your flight or upon arrival. If you do not have a return ticket, you may be denied boarding or entry into the country. The return date should not exceed the expiration date of your visa, before an extension. For instance, if your visa is valid for 60 days, your return ticket should be dated no later than 59 days. If you plan to extend your visa and stay in Indonesia for an extended period, you can purchase a cost-effective round-trip ticket to a third country, such as Malaysia. We do not recommend using fake tickets, as they are now closely scrutinized.

2. How to get to Bali: buying plane tickets

Bali has one international airport, located in the city of Denpasar, the island’s administrative capital, and it’s identified by the code DPS on airline websites and ticket aggregators. Various airlines operate flights to Bali, including:

Qatar Airways

Emirates

China Eastern Airlines

Singapore Airlines

American Airlines

KLM and others. 

You can also find reasonably priced routes to Bali through Asian countries like Thailand, India, Vietnam, and others, although you might need to make multiple layovers. Low-cost carriers also offer flights from Asian countries to Indonesia.

3. How to choose the right visa without overpaying

Indonesia offers a variety of visas with different terms and conditions. The most affordable option is the Visa on Arrival, which costs only $35. You can purchase it at the airport or apply for it online in advance through an agency or the immigration office’s website. However, the immigration website and system can be somewhat unreliable, potentially causing complications. Keep in mind that this visa is suitable for short trips. Travelers planning to stay in Bali for an extended period may face significant expenses for visas, extensions, and planned trips out of the country and back to reset the visa (visa run).

To avoid overpaying, we recommend planning your trip in advance. Consider how many days you intend to spend in Indonesia, whether you will be traveling to other countries, or prefer to stay in one place. This article can help you learn about the visa conditions in Indonesia and choose the one that suits your plans.

Some travelers, especially those planning a longer stay or a relocation to Bali, may intend to work there. It’s important to note that earning income in Indonesia is only allowed with a specific work permit (KITAS). Without it, you risk deportation from the country.

4. Ensure a smooth entry

After the coronavirus pandemic, Bali has experienced an unprecedented surge in tourism. The Denpasar airport is sometimes struggling to handle the influx of new arrivals. Passport control lines can be quite long, and it’s not uncommon to wait for over an hour in a stuffy environment.

Bali lacks a public transportation system, so the best options for getting to your accommodation are to either book a taxi or arrange a transfer. We don’t recommend using airport taxi services, as their prices are often inflated.

You can call for a local taxi through apps like Grab or GoJek, but this typically requires a local SIM card.

A more convenient and reliable option is to pre-book a transfer with a trusted company. They offer clean vehicles with air conditioning, punctual professional drivers who will ensure your safe and comfortable journey to your hotel or villa. 6. What сurrency to bring

If you’re traveling to Bali with cash, you’ll need to exchange it for the local currency, the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR).

It’s best to bring US Dollars, Euros or Australian Dollars with you and exchange them at authorized local exchange offices or banks.

If you’re planning a long-term stay in Indonesia, you can easily set a local card up here. Unlike many other countries where a residence permit is required to open an account, tourists in Bali can do so with a tourist visa at one of the four Indonesian banks. The bonus is that these cards work seamlessly in other countries as well.

7. Do you need insurance?

Medical insurance is not a mandatory requirement for entry into Indonesia, but we strongly recommend obtaining it for your safety and peace of mind. Medical care in Bali can be quite expensive.

8. How to find accommodation in Bali

Bali offers accommodation to suit every taste and budget. The best apps for finding and booking accommodation are still Booking.com and Airbnb.

If you want to save money, it’s a good idea not to rush into booking long-term accommodation unless you are 100% sure about it. It’s best to rent a hotel or villa for one to two weeks initially and then search for your ideal home once you’re on the island. Make sure to have a written contract, especially if you are paying for your accommodation remotely.

9. Getting around in Bali

Bali doesn’t have an extensive public transportation system, so most tourists opt to rent scooters or cars. You will need an international driver’s license (Category A for scooters and Category B for cars), so it is a good idea to obtain one in your home country before traveling.
