Wrapping up 2019 and reminiscing over the number of pups I got to pet at the 31 pop-ups we did. 1 in Oregon and 30 in the Bay Area. ⏭ We started 2019 vending in April at #vivamuxeres @gardenattheflea 😜 (look how sparse our booth was) and ended with another WOC focused market with @shopviscera and gang. 💪🏿💪🏾💪🏽 Learnt a lot and also failed at times but the most enjoyable experiences were being around the makers communities and participating in events ran by makers themselves!! 😘These events have ALOT of heart and support for vendors especially for a tiny business like BGG. Sharing vendor time with our energetic friends @untoldrebel was always a treat 👯‍♀️😜 Couple of highlights of this year include @sfetsy @renegadecraft @sfbazaar @dearhandmadelife @treasurefestsf @headwestmarketplace THANK YOU !!!😘 . This is me @byshawnachan barely awake saying THANK YOU 🧡 to everyone who stopped by my booth @gardenattheflea yesterday in San Jose ☀️ #VivaMuxeres celebrating womxn creatives was a fun learning experience and I’m excited to see how this community space will grow! A first in the books for an outdoor event, handmade a banner that stood up to the winds, added a coloring pack for the little or big intersectional feminists, only 2 hours of sleep due to the endless prep and barely had any social energy left at the event (sorry). Starting on your own brand is hard work, LOTS of sleepless nights working and stressing about 💸 plus the creepy imposter syndrome. The highlight of the day was meeting a young customer who expressed her hopes to support my art in future events. My heart is full 🧡🧡🧡 😭. Are you one of those who can’t whisper ‘no” let alone shout it out? Because if you say no, you’re worried you’ll be seen as less competent. Turns out, there are studies that show as a women you’ll be held to a “higher ethical standard’ than your male counterparts. You’re expected to shoulder more, withstand more, do more. You’re expected to say yes, pick up the extra projects even though you’re stretched thin, clean up the pizza boxes when everyone finishes the team lunch and, oh, a smile while you’re at it wouldn’t hurt. Say no strategically and prioritise. #timesup didn’t happen by chance; it happened because women stood up and continue to be courageous. If you want change, you’re going to have to be brave.
