Photographing live performances are just the best, just the best. My experience started when I’d photograph my daddy during his gigs (he’s a rockstar, I love him ✌🏼♥️🎵) which then led to photographing local and not so local live music concerts and festivals for music magazines. I love that you capture movement and motion, all the while being blown away by epic talent. One thing that’s a bit of a barrier though is that if the act or performing artist is just that good you kind of stop shooting and just watch in awe. Photographing @frankiefictitious in Las Vegas was like this, I had to remind myself to at least get a few images to convey her act, her story. I love Frankies performances and I love the massive cutie-patootie smile she carries with every act. She truly is one of the worlds BEST Burlesque performers hands down. Another act that’s stopped me in my steps was @kingsofchaos and @sebastianbach tearing up the stage performing ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ with other Rock Legends in Sydney for the Stone Music Festival. I kind of just stood there in the media pit with my mouth open, it went a little dry from memory too. Dry-mouth Davies they called me, dry-mouth Davies. @frankiefictitious performed this act to @defleppard ‘s ‘Pour Some Sugar on me’, a rocking classic. And you know what, I had a friend who sunk 3 bottles of lolly water (champagne 🍾) before slinging herself seductively around a pole on her back veranda several times to this very same song. Flinging her head around, running her fingers through her hair in slow motion and yeah it just wasn’t the same hey 😂 she woke up the next morning crying in so much back pain post performance. I want to give a huge shoutout to @janeblakeley , her Husby, her 3 year old twinnsies 👯‍♀️ and her little man (I think around kindergarten) for taking a huge leap in packing up their world here in Newcastle Australia and relocating to Malaysia 🇲🇾 Jane contacted me a few months ago to say that she’s liked my work since seeing an image I took of a mutual friend @torn_your_dress over 10 years ago! 10! 🙌🏼 They met at university (they are both kick ass journalists). I think she was living in Melbourne at the time and she said that if she ever moved to Newcastle then she would book in for a session. Well, she moved to Newcastle and I moved to America - hmmmm 🤔 what to do what to do. Nek minuet (ok, maybe 4 years later) I move back to Newcastle and she starts prepping for her international move to Malaysia 🇲🇾. Well last month was pretty exciting as we finally got her in for her session before her fly date. @misschelseakate_ of @chelseaevansmua did a rad job on her hair and makeup didn’t she and this red drop is just gorgeous against her skin and firey red locks. Wishing @janeblakeley and her beautiful family happy and fun travels filled with memorable adventures. I’ve only been to Malaysia once on my way back to Europe in 2011 to photograph a leg of a concert Tour for 70’s rockers ToTo (🎵Africa, 🎶Rosanna, Hold the Line..🎵).
