NYC queer org politics ahead !
Dyke March NYC who’s march theme today will be “dykes against genocide” is being attacked for not being anti Zionist enough on insta because they released and quickly deleted a statement accidentally released without full consensus by the organizers saying that they’re anti Zionist and Pro-Palestinian liberation but also want to assure Jewish community members that they are safe and that we mourn all civilian lives lost and that was enough for the most rabid (mostly white) “leftists antizionists” to turn on this historic dyke led grassroots volunteer protest march.
I want people to understand Dyke March NYC isn’t an “official” organization. There’s no office. It isn’t run by rich donors. It’s entirely volunteer run. And it’s run mostly by poor dykes of color and disabled dykes and dykes who are on the margin in this city. They are putting their own time and money and labor to put together a march that is usually 8,000+ people and provide free water and wheelchairs and taxis for those who need help to get there. And they’re the ones who put their bodies on the line as marshals when we take the streets. Because when the march happens every year, they are the ones who block off traffic for us to march. And right now they are being attacked by people who are saying they are too “institutional” but who refuse to put in their own time to change what they want changed. I doubt most of them were even going to come to the march in the first place.
And going back to the statement. They deleted it because the statement was put out without full consensus, and they wanted to write a more detailed statement in support of Palestinian liberation while also assuring Jewish community members that they are safe. Because the march organizers received many emails from Jewish members who are pro Palestinian asking if they would be safe from antisemitism at the march. But according to the purity politics happening online, Jewish dykes feelings of safety doesn’t matter and also aren’t “real”. And you can’t be truly anti Zionist and feel empathy for civilian lives lost on Oct 7. And if you do you’re actually pro-Zionism and anti Palestinian liberation and should be hunted down by Instagram activists who are currently posting “who are the Zionists infiltrating the organizers?” While trying to hunt down whoever wrote the statement for being a “secret Zionist”. A statement put together by anti Zionist volunteer organizers is hiding a secret pro genocide message because they dared to mention they care about the safety of the Jewish community members who will be marching in support of Palestinian liberation. What the fuck is happening. People are literally spreading the rumor that the march is anti Palestinian and Zionists “infiltrated” this organization. Because a badly worded statement calling for safety for all marchers was released and deleted before a longer one was released.
Anyways I’m still going to Dyke March because every year it’s an incredible experience of thousands of queer people from all over taking the streets to scream for human rights and queer rights around the globe. And this year the march will be focused on supporting those who are facing genocides. From Sudan to Palestine. From Myanmar to Somalia. We are Dykes against Genocide. We are not safe until we are all free from violence!

#OTD in 1858 – The Irish Republican Brotherhood was co-founded by James Stephens in Dublin.
The original IRB oath, as quoted by Thomas Clarke Luby and John O’Leary, and which is among several versions in James Stephens’s own papers, ran: ‘I, AB., do solemnly swear, in the presence of Almighty God, that I will do my utmost, at every risk, while life lasts, to make [other versions, according to Luby, establish in’] Ireland an independent Democratic Republic; that I will yield implicit…

i have to wonder what super hardcore militant vegans think should be done about obligate carnivore animals, because in all my painfully-rapidly-approaching-30-years i've literally never actually seen anyone give a clear consistent much less halfway feasible answer on that
#mostly i've just seen like “how dare you ask questions you just want an excuse to murder you're sealioning ect”#or worse some vague and wildly improbable nonsense about like. fake robot animals covered in beyond meat or something equally convoluted#which is a thing i did see someone suggest as a serious answer#i mean i already know they think i'm a genetically inferior hateful vampire that should starve to death for the greater good#because my exact combination of health conditions make meat basically the only semi-safe way i can get close to enough nutrients#i know this because they have repeatedly told me that i'm either evil or should be sacrificed or both#and yelled at me for asking questions by bringing up the whole disabled thing and then they're like#“a lot of vegans i know are advocates for disability!” as if that ever means jack shit in the society that results from anything#no matter what you do a vast majority of people in any given society will *not* be advocates for the disabled. i'm sorry they just won't.#and what do you think public perception of people who physically can't survive like that is going to skew towards#in a society founded on the belief that non-vegan diets are evil?#at absolute best we're looking at being a heavily marginalized class generally seen as something like vampires and our existences taboo.#(as if these type's own insistence that they should be allowed to harass and shame people doesn't disprove their assertion that we won't be#thinking it could possibly go any better than that is a fucking fairy tale. human nature doesn't work that way.#you simply cannot eliminate the human desire to designate and abuse a class of have-nots. the absolute best you can do is mitigate damage.#take it from someone who's been multiple kinds of disabled and chronically ill all my life. people will not “just”. ever.#i get this even from people who are otherwise very aware of and VERY GOOD at avoiding this sort of thinking#“i'm a disability advocate!” no you are not. you are a poster. my experience has taught me that what people advocate for in their free time#means precisely jack shit for how they will actually act when faced with the situations they make otherwise rational posts about#and the fact of the matter is even if you somehow really are the perfect disability advocate a majority of people WILL NOT BE YOU.#a majority of people in society will be margrat from accounting who clutches her pearls when she sees the gays and thinks autism isnt real#and who has never had a nuanced thought in her life and actively does not want to#a vast majority of people in your Vegan Utopia will not be you and your friends who march with wheelchair users and volunteer at the shelte#a vast majority of people in your Vegan Utopia will be jenny who starved 8 cats to death on broccoli because she can't be bothered#and who thinks that “carnivores” are actual nazis and don't deserve healthcare because she saw someone say that online.#ALWAYS assume your society will be made up mostly of the worst kind of person it can because it WILL ALWAYS BE TRUE and you can't change it#most people seek the low-effort option. and evil is most often banal and low-effort.#i'm just so fucking tired of every single even vaguely lefty-adjacent political movement simultaneously acting like i don't fucking exist#and at the same time that i need to be sacrificed to achieve Utopia. god. at least conservative whackjobs are upfront and honest about#how they think that i'm a burden on society that needs to be Eugenics'd . rather than trying to morally gaslight me about it.

so uh. for anyone still looking at using cohost. they shared their March financial update.
they are, at best, four weeks from closing up shop and ceasing to exist. They may not be able to get emergency funding from their benefactor who they've been out of contact with for a while in time, and even if they do it just delays the inevitable.
Centralized social media is inherently expensive. Especially developing the software from scratch, and extra especially when one of your main devs is working on a different but mildly related project meant to be a better version of patreon and kofi. A good idea, but like.
you can barely develop and work on ONE platform to make it break even.
anyways. despite it's promise I cannot even think about suggesting cohost as an option. They've been in this "oh my god we're running out of money" situation for MONTHS now, this isn't a new "oh shit sudden expense" time. If they can't get money now, it's joever for cohost and ASSC.

Nearly an hour and a half into this thing and I have to say, surprising results from both matches this morning.
Vulture and Nidhogg, the fan favorites to win, both struggling for very different reasons.

I just listened to two hyper-melismatic a cappella pop renditions of "The Star Spangled Banner" and "O Canada" at the opening of a sports event. Each performance heavy with melodic runs and ad-libbing worthy of a Christina Aguilera or Whitney Houston.
Why do North Americans like this so much? I feel like if someone tried to do this to "Forged From The Love Of Liberty" Trinidadians would be rioting in the streets. Or at least memeing it into oblivion.
Actually I need to hear an oversung pop butchering of the Chinese national anthem "March of the Volunteers" SO fucking bad

Also obsessed with the fact that rev. sinclair kelburn whose church the mccrackens attended would preach sermons arguing for catholic emancipation and parliamentary reform in his volunteer uniform + according to wikipedia possibly also with his musket right there leaning against the pulpit. I love you northern irish history

the combination of being raised by drum corps people (my mom and aunt and most of their friends were in dci; my grandma helped run an all-girls corps in the 60s and 70s) and being in marching band myself in high school has given me a totally skewed sense of when the fuck a person is supposed to arrive to anything even vaguely parade-adjacent. "march starts at 7:00" translates to "we step off at 7:00" to me, which means that i'm there at 6:30 at the absolute latest. frankly, if i'm there at 6:30, i'm a little late. if you're not there at 6:30, i think you're a little late. we're never going to get our instruments off the truck like this.

Signed up to volunteer at our local Pride with the HRC! Thought about DC too but the earlier shift was full and I don’t know the city well enough to want to navigate alone at night, but next year maybe

Volunteer Soldier March (National Anthem of the People's Republic of China)
youtube
It's a short national anthem, even from a global perspective. During this short period, the lyrics often change. When I heard it a long time ago, it was singing about chasing the Japanese army. It wasn't even the People's Liberation Army that defeated the Japanese army. They also sang ``Long Live Communism'' and ``Long Live Mao Zedong.'' What's the point in praising that idiot? If you listen to a recent song, they sing about rebuilding the "Great Wall of China," but it seems that the Chinese leadership does not know that "Great Wall" in English means "useless object. "The national anthem of ridicule.

Saw someone Finnish online say they think pets or children shouldn't be taken to protests (the context was talking about a pride parade but they seemed to be talking about protests in general)
And huh, right. My experiences are not universal. I haven't gone to a ton of protests because I did not grow up in the capital of Finland and even though where I spent most of my life is a fairly big university town most protests just are in the capital. But I have been to protests with my parents ever since I was a kid, that's just what you do when you have kids and also want to show up for causes you believe in
Like yeah if you're planning or expecting clashes with police or counter-protesters leave the kids home, but if you're just going to peacefully chant something in front of the town hall or go on a well-planned traffic-controlled fully-legal protest march around the center of town you can take your kids with you, that is a great way to teach them about the world, about your values and about ways to express your opinions, values and beliefs
