Corals Monthly Update #1
Well due to Tumblrs lack of a word limit, this idea has been on my mind ever since I started using this website properly. Basically, I wanna do these somewhat frequently and basically talk about what I got up to over the past month and possibly spill into the last month if need be. Starting from today imma try do these every day on the 20th or 21st because why not! So lets start off with this month, November! This month started off pretty nicely, as I had Halloween break spill over into November because mid term exams were early this year apparently. I however had plans! Instead of sitting around myself, Sully, had arranged to meet up with Wolf and spend a few days at his house in the back ass of nowhere. Despite Wolfs internet being almost as bad as his siblings tempers, it was super fun! He has a lot of stray cats that come around and hang about the farm which they look after and they’re so adorable!! My favourite was Oreo since she was so goofy >:]
Tumblr media
(Wolf also had 2 dogs, one tiny one and a MASSIVE fluffy guy who was super excited to see us! Sometimes a bit too excited lmao) However, because of that I actually didn’t get much pictures while I was up there because cats distract me. Poor Sully was slightly allergic to cats sadly and was taking no chances so we couldn’t let them in for long and if we did it had to be far away from him. Cats aside, we also visited a small town near where Wolf lives and it was like an expanded version of where I grew up. Even had a huge ass forest which made me super jealous cuz I would’ve KILLED to grow up with smth like that!! We met up with Wolfs super chill friend Pierce (hope i spelt that right) and had a good time walking around and seeing what this little place had to offer. I also tried something called Vodka black which is like mostly blackcurrant mi waddi mixed with vodka and I loved it lol. Eventually we went back to Wolfs house and relaxed for the rest of the evening. OH ALSO! While at his house, Wolf let me borrow his 3DS so I could finally play Tomodatchi Life again, though I quickly reset the island as it had so many islanders that were either out of date, unfunny memes or people I REALLLY do not like anymore. So I started a new island! Here’s mostly everyone on it as of right now! >:]
Tumblr media
(Wolf, Sully and Saul Goodman are also here but I didn’t snap any photos lol) I hope to get a New 3DS soon because my first one died and the 2DS Sully let me have has a broken cart reader :[ Anyhow! On the last day we went into a bigger town that was an hour drive away. There was also a CeX there which had fucking SA2 stocked and nearly made me jump with the shock lmfao. I of course instantly bought that but also picked up Splatoon 2 since I wanted to give it a try (and i still need to play it oops.) There was also a discount store we passed that Wolf commented on, apparently saying it was shit. However after going inside it literally had everything I needed for a Red Guy cosplay I want to work on at some point! After our quick and simple trip around the town, we piled back into the car and were driven back to Dublin to catch the train home. Despite us only being there for a few days it was great fun! I always have a blast meeting up with Wolf and this time was no exception :D Other than that extravaganza, I haven’t actually been up to much IRL stuff. School is just school so nothing ever interesting happens, and I don’t do much at home either. Only thing I can say is that Carey in the House: Take 2 is almost done! I wanna say it’s currently 60 or maybe 75% done? I’ve been trying to push out the last chunk of animation but due to winter making silly caveman brain think it hibernation time, my productivity has slammed through the floor. My plan is to get it out before Christmas however! This is so I can spend all my time on hanging out with family and friends, since both Vi and Softy are coming over for New Years!! My current weakness though is backgrounds, rendering the base in blender saves a LOT of work but I’ll need to look into shaders to speed things like colour and line art up because it takes FOREVER. Here’s a comparison between backgrounds for example! Left is base render, right is the finished piece done in Clip Studio.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(the bottom one is a better example as it has a lot more smaller details)  If need be I’ll probably ask a few friends to help out with smaller things but until then I’m (mostly) working solo. So WISH ME LUCK!! EDIT: HOW COULD I FORGET!! I ALSO DYED MY HAIR PURPLE!! However before that I had to bleach it and due to missing a certain product that was vital and SOLD SEPERATELY I had to go into school on Monday looking like I just stole all 7 chaos emeralds.
Tumblr media
Thankfully I got it all sorted and now I look AWESOME!! (sorry for bad camera quality! New phone has a shit camera)
Tumblr media
For now however, that’s basically all I got up to this month. There’s probably something I forgot or didn’t mention because it was short (like twf reddit stuff) but that’s basically everything for the most part! I’m going to be doing a trivia stream with Waltenews on the 26th tho so I’ll talk about it more next time! Go check it out at “twitch.tv/Waltenews” or I will find you!! Thank you all so much for reading and I hope to do more of these :D

Today! Live @5 - Iconic musicians with history, and for the fun of it, I've got some history with some of them, as well. The Immediate Family, oft known as The Section, has played with pretty much every artist I've seen Live and played on most of the albums I've listened to throughout my life. Iconic barely begins to describe the legacy of Danny Kortchmar (Kootch), Leland Sklar, Waddy Wachtel, Russell Kunkel, and my 35+ yrs long friend, more recent addition, Steve Postell. Together now, front and center themselves, first with the music they created with, and for others, and now with new music and The Denny Tedesco documentary Immediate Family, winning festivals and soon to drop, they're doing what they love, loving it, in each other's great company. Happiness is...
The Immediate Family can be heard on albums from Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Stevie Nicks, Keith Richards, Warren Zevon, Graham Nash, Neil Young, David Crosby, and many, many, many more. Kortchmar, Sklar, and Kunkel have worked together since the early 70s and made up three-quarters of The Section, best known for both their studio and live work in support of some of the top-selling singer/songwriters and solo singers in the history of music, as well as their own acclaimed instrumental albums. (By the mid-70s, they were later joined by Wachtel). Collectively, these musicians helped define the sound of a generation. Talkin' 'but my generation.
Danny Kortchmar’s credits as guitarist, producer, songwriter, and session musician include work with James Taylor, Don Henley, Carole King, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, and Billy Joel, among many others. As a songwriter, Kortchmar has both written alone or collaborated with numerous artists, penning indelible tracks such as Don Henley’s “Dirty Laundry,” “All She Wants to Do Is Dance,” and “New York Minute,” as well as Jackson Browne’s “Somebody’s Baby” and “Shaky Town,” to name a few.
Legendary guitarist, producer, and songwriter Waddy Wachtel has worked with many of the same artists as Kortchmar, as well as artists like the Rolling Stones, Keith Richards, Stevie Nicks, Randy Newman, Bryan Ferry, and the late Warren Zevon, with whom he co-wrote and produced a number of hit songs including “Werewolves of London,” which The Immediate Family has included in their setlist. Wachtel’s production work includes Keith Richards, Bryan Ferry, George Thorogood, and The Church, and he has composed numerous scores for feature films.
Leland Sklar has performed in the studio and on tour with Phil Collins, James Taylor, Toto, and Billy Cobham, to name a few. Actually, Sklar has the most credits of any of the members of The Immediate Family, having worked on over 2,600 albums.
Russ Kunkel’s credits include Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Bob Dylan, Stevie Nicks, Lyle Lovett, and dozens more. He has created and co-produced film scores for Mike Nichols’ Heartburn, Joyce Chopra’s Smooth Talk, and New World Films’ Certain Fury. Production work includes Clannad, Jimmy Buffett, The Derek Trucks Band, Dan Fogelberg, Aaron Neville, and others.
Steve Postell is a seasoned touring and session player who has worked with David Crosby, Jennifer Warnes, Michael McDonald, John Oates, Robben Ford, and many others. He recorded and mixed the final 3 performances of Ravi Shankar, and has scored films including “Dying To Know” about Timothy Leary & Ram Dass and narrated by Robert Redford.  He has released several solo records, including the critically acclaimed “Time Still Knockin’” on Immergent Records.
The Immediate Family’s new EP Live from Telefunken Soundstage is a six-song live recording captured at Telefunken’s Connecticut headquarters on November 14, 2021 during a stop in the group’s recent nationwide tour.

Randy Newman
Trouble in Paradise
@ 1983 Germany Pressing
****
Here we are, living in paradise," sang Elvis Costello a few albums ago, and while Randy Newman probably would agree with that statement, he'd be more interested in its underlying frustration: if this is paradise, why aren't we happy? On his ninth album, Newman has chosen to explore the ambivalences of paradise, not only sundrenched climes, but ostensibly ideal situations as well: parties, self-confidence, true love. Observing these paradoxical states of affairs, Newman's eye is as keen and pungent as ever; what makes Trouble in Paradise special is that he's infused his acute perception with an almost startling compassion.
Newman's characters may still spout sexual crudities and ethnic slurs, but Trouble in Paradise eschews the smarmy, gimcrack gimmickry that cheapened Born Again and Little Criminals. While his mordant wit is delightfully abundant here, this album is anchored on two genuinely soul-stirring ballads, "Same Girl" and "Real Emotional Girl." It is their power and some fiery arrangements that make Trouble in Paradiserank right up there with Sail Away as the apotheosis of Newman's art.
No purported utopia is closer to Newman's heart, or his funny bone, than his native Los Angeles. "Look at that mountain/Look at those trees," exclaims the freeway-cruising character in the raveup "I Love L.A." "Look at that bum over there He's down on his knees." In thankfulness or – more likely – agony? Newman conceals that ambiguity beneath the flash of Waddy Wachtel's guitar and the sun-bleached huzzahs ("We love it!") of backup singers Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie.
Newman's skewer is even sharper on "My Life Is Good." in which a nouveau riche El Lay songwriter engages in a feisty bout of one-upmanship and name-dropping with his kid's schoolteacher, culminating in a gut-busting Hollywood encounter with Bruce Springsteen: "He said, Rand, I'm tired How would you like to be the Boss for a while?'" So Newman yelps, "Blow, Big Man," and Ernie Watts lets out an unearthly sax squawk. It's enough to spin you off your Barcalounger.
Newman's rummations on two other paradises. Florida and South Africa, are not nearly so sangume. "Miami" fairly bristles off its grooves, with its tractions instrumentation atop a defiantly unperky calypso beat. "Gee, I love Miami," he deadpans. "It's so nice and hot And every building's so pretty and white And I always get into so much trouble there." Even sympathetic Newman listeners may have trouble with the racial obscenities in "Christmas in Capetown," wherein a South African roughly excoriates the horrified British woman who's visiting him. Newman makes impressive use of a dissonant backup chorus and again imbues a hateful character with a bizarre dignity. "Just take a look around," the Afrikaner protests. "What are we gonna do, blow up the whole damn country?" Well. Newman seems to say, somebody's gonna.
Nowhere on Trouble in Paradise is Newman more gleeful than when he's demolishing the bliss of unchecked egotism that characterizes, in many minds, the Seventies rock musician. And on "The Blues" and "I'm Different," Newman employs musicians at whom that charge has been hurled in the past: Paul Simon and Linda Ronstadt, among them. Not only their talents emerge, but a sense of humor as well. "The Blues" is as poppy a melody as Newman has written. "A year ago. I met a girl I thought we'd hit a massive groove," croons Simon. "But she dumped me And all we'd hit were the blues." Also faring well are Jennifer Warnes and Wendy Waldman, who combine with Ronstadt to contribute some seamless backup singing to the album's funniest track, "I'm Different." "I ain't savin' I'm better than you are," struts Newman, as the Trio Grande oohs in assent, "but maybe I am." The high-gloss polish of Lenny Waronker and Russ Titelman's production adds an additional hilarity to the song's ersatz breast-beating: "I ain't gonna play your gosh-darn game."
Wit is what we've come to expect from Newman, and though his insights are especially trenchant, his subjects could be said to be easy marks. That's not the case with the record's strongest cuts. "Same Girl" and "Real Emotional Girl." Here, a subdued Newman spins a more subtle tale. True, faithful, mutual love, Newman realizes, can be as filled with sadness as its more commonly lamented imperfect forms. Lake Springsteen. Newman understands that even a superficially happy sentence like "You're still the same girl that I love" can be fraught with disappointment. On "Same Girl," he sets that sentiment in a wan, almost Kurt Weill-like melody, and sings the song in an achingly world-weary voice.
In suspended piano chords whose stark beauty suggests a Lenten hymn, "Real Emotional Girl" tells of a woman so emotional, "every little thing you tell her She'll believe She really will." The mood is a plangent mix of tenderness and melancholy, wonder and affection. "I never had a girl who loved me Half as much as this girl loves me," he intones. But Newman casts new light on that hoary pop cliché with a delicate touch of self-deprecation: "She's real emotional." This is the ardently nonconfessional Newman stripping himself of his props: the klutzy characters, the goofy jokes. "She turns on easy It's like a hurricane," he marvels. "You would not believe it," he whispers, "gotta hold on tight to her." I can hardly recall a song as full of love as this one; it may well be the finest performance of Newman's career.
Too bad that Trouble in Paradise ends with its weakest cut, a Vietnam elegy, "Song for the Dead." that sorely lacks the fresh perspective of the album's other tracks. But that failure can't blunt the considerable achievement of this album. Newman has taken the notion of paradise and flung it open, across the world, across our culture and into our emotions. His facility and wit are no surprise; it is his newfound (or newly expressed) perceptivity, steeped in human emotion, that makes Trouble in Paradise both humorous and heartfelt. (RS 389)

Today, Live! It's been a long time coming! After meeting Denny Tedesco at NAMM two years ago, having seen his unforgettable, stellar film, The Wrecking Crew, I jumped. Scheduled for BC (Before COVID), at long last, here we are.
Denny started as a set decorator on feature films such as Eating Raoul and then went on to work on films, commercials, and music videos during the MTV Years as a grip.
In 1984-1990, Denny began to travel the world as a lighting technician and location producer for IMAX films. From the shark-infested waters of Australia to the plains of Africa, he's filmed under the most challenging conditions. He was sent as a location producer to cover the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo as well as the catastrophic earthquake of Kobe, Japan.
During the 1990s and 2000s, Denny worked as a freelance producer and director and conducted interviews for A&E, TV-Land, and was a producer on Comedy Central’s Pulp Comics. Most notably in 2000, he produced the Academy Awards opening starring Billy Crystal and also the award-winning music video for Elton John’s, I Want Love, starring Robert Downey Jr.
In 1996, Denny set out on the labor of love of all loves. His father, famed session guitarist Tommy Tedesco, was diagnosed with terminal cancer. With a year left in his father’s life, Denny quickly started filming his father, his cohorts, and other musicians known as The Wrecking Crew.
The making of the film became a story in itself. Featured on Entertainment Tonight, Marc Maron’s WTF Podcast, NPR, CBS Morning News, Wall Street Journal, Rolling Stone, and other media outlets around the world. Denny toiled for years raising enough money to finally pay off the 110 songs that needed to tell the story. His unique marketing ideas brought the movie to the success it achieved.
His latest producing job is currently on the 2nd season of a comedy series called, Hanging With Doctor Z. It features comedian Dana Gould who plays Dr. Z, (a character from Planet of the Apes). Dr. Z interviews other comedians; Jeff Garlin, Dave Foley, Bobcat Goldthwait, Patton Oswalt, Steven Webber, Will Forte, Penn Jillett, Maria Emily Bamford, Al Yankovic, Paget Brewster, Hank Azaria, and more.
Currently, Denny is in post-production on his next documentary which follows up on the Wrecking Crew called Immediate family. When the Wrecking Crew slowed down in the early 60s the studio scene changed and the era of the Singer-Songwriters took over, a new group of guys came in. The film features, Leland Sklar,
Russ Kunkle, Waddy Wachtel, and Danny Kortchmar.
Denny's film about The Wrecking Crew is an historically important, moving work of genius. I can't wait to view his no doubt comprehensive, entertaining, informative, and fun film on the beloved, Immediate Family.
And, I can't wait to hear this man's tales from the front. And the back. Whoopee!
