"Just one more handsome," you sigh, tracing the curve of his sharp jaw, brushing your fingertips against his soft sideburns and stubble. "You can do that for me, can’t you?"

Law trembles under your touch—leans into it while his tired eyes gaze up at you. He swallows thickly before finally answering with a weak nod, dark, damp tresses nearly falling over his eyes.   

"Y-yea."

God, you want to burn the image of him like this in your mind forever. Recall it every moment of every waking day until you turn to dust.

You smile down at him and begin to move your hips once more. Law jolts as soon as you do and grits his teeth to stop from crying out. You feel his tortured dick pulse inside of you, so needy and spent and ready to pour everything he has to give into you again.

Law swears he sees fucking spots in the corners of his vision, but he isn’t in the state of mind to be even a little concerned. "Can you do…the thing?" you ask sweetly, lifting your hand and outstretching your fingers in explanation. "Gotta get cleaned up."

You look up at Law with pleading eyes, attempting to look as cute and innocent as Bepo, though you’re almost certain you’re too disheveled and fucked out to even come close.

He sighs, lifting his tattooed hand. "This is the last time…"

You smile, mumbling your thanks.

How much did I know before playing?

I played it since the JP launch despite not understanding a single word and I've played every DrakeNieR Adjacent thing in existence except for DoD2 (no interest, sry) and... NieR Automata which I refuse to play at this point - but I guess that just means you can't complain that I haven't played DoD2 lol.

Did I like it more than I expected?

I did in fact not expect the Gacha game to turn out the best NieR game but here we are.

Since I liked it, here's what I hated about it

Despite its (to me) clear intention to present a diverse and not particularly "objectified" cast it still has a visible bias towards a certain group of characters - by which i of course mean the waifus, because those make more money. But it means that certain characters never get the 'worthless' free event units while some only get them - snd I mean, just look at Priyet who has 3 less costumes than Yurie who came out months after her.

Also, the story was clearly supposed to be longer, especially with 10H's more-than-swift in- and ex-troduction, but tbh I didn't particularly mind it? 'Cutting it short' didn't ruin anything even though it could have taken the game a bit longer to end - but I wouldn't have said no to a Purple Season 3 Chapter either.

Also also, 'Tis evident that this ludus has maybe one singular mention of our Lord and Saviour YoRHa:Dark Apocalypse (henceforth referred to as Y:DA) - and even that one mention is marvelously vague. Father, are you ashamed of your best work? Is it because it doesn't qualify as its own game? Please, I beg of you to acknowledge the existence of the Crime & Punishment fanfiction sequel you wrote in a MMORPG cross-over! Do it for meeee!

What did this game make me think about?

Reincarnation is a Cage.

Specific Impressions that will stick with me

Honestly? A lot, so this is very non exhaustive.

The Art, both 2D and 3D, especially the very limited usage of color.

The Story and how exactly it was written. Every single line in this game pulls at the same rope and that's impressive for a game that's basically a very, very complicatedly put together Collection of Vignettes written from more than 5 people.

How thought through this game's structure is - how and when what kind of story was introduced/unlocked, stuff like that. I even thought "the grind" wasn't pointless okay, sue me but it makes the pay-off from the ex stories feel better.

The entire soundtrack, as always the crew at MONACA is beyond mere mortals - and honestly, Shotaro Seo deserves more credit for his NieR work!!! (also he's cute but that's besides the point)

What about this game gives me Hope for the future of gaming?

I guess the death of the Common Gacha is somewhat imminent if even Square Enix is giving up on it. A shame that what's left in its wake (the Gacha with "Gameplay Value") is so much more worrisome than shitty jpg dispensers ever could be.

And I don't know, I guess I'm just excited for Yoko Taro's next big hit because he has yet to really miss. Sadly this game won't set any industry standards in the ways I would like it to :/

What about this game makes me scared for the future of gaming?

The Internet has figured out that complaining about things that everybody agrees is bad is fun - and that's nothing new. What's new is that they have at this point seen enough video essays to make their incessant complaining sound like "Criticism."

The problem I have with that is that these surface level "Criticisms" taint the stage, so to speak. Everyone is constantly mad at the mere mention of Microtransactions or of Gacha Games (except, of course, if it's one of the popular ones) and it makes it so that "not critizising" Gacha Games for even just existing in the first place makes you "uncritical."

Can you tell by my usage of Quotation Marks that I do not like the word Criticism anymore?

And I wish that my only stake with this is that I think this shit is annoying as fuck. That I think it sucks that every person having something, anything genuine to say about this game feels the need to state how they know Gacha games are bad because Capitalism sucks - a so surface level fact I would genuinely struggle to believe anyone who would agree with that hasn't already caught on to it yet.

But no - that's where our public interrogation of this type of media starts and ends, because god forbid we have a more nuanced opinion about this shit than "Gacha Bad".

Instead of talking about anything below the surface, good or bad, be it the artistic merits of this game I really like or the actually deeply fucked up evolution on the Gacha Formula the Industry is going through to make their practices more palatable despite being so much worse and deeply ingrained into everything else - resulting in an ecosystem that's so much more dangerous than anything Square Enix could ever hope to come up with.

Instead of talking about any of that I get to hear people act high and mighty about how smart and brave they are for voicing an opinion everybody shares with them.

Meanwhile Hoyoverse has made it cool to just take whatever game is currently popular and turn it into an industrial-grade FOMO machine printing object women of the week and money and everybody unironically endorses it, creates endless amounts of free publicity through fan-art & co, feeding into this FOMO cycle that's already exacerbated by games solely built to drive you to FOMO through all of its built-in game design mechanisms - all so you gamble your money away for your own enjoyment - but that's 'better', actually, 'because it has good gameplay.'

Because clearly, the problem with Gacha Games has all this time been that Gacha Games have boring gameplay and not that they do everything in their power to addict people into spending money on parasocial relationships to people (mostly women) that don't even exist, all to impress themselves and their friends.

and also you guys it looks kind of silly when you say 'good riddance, you cheap cash-grab' to a game that a) clearly wasn't that cheap and b) clearly didn't grab that much cash

So a couple days ago Yoko Taro met up with the Stellar Blade guy and the only thing I can think about is... well...

Was 2B a mistake?

I mean, it's kind of a sign of how good he is at analyzing the topic at hand so take that as you will, but the fact is that Yoko Taro set out to create the most objectifiable women he could think of - and he was so good at it she has become what is probably the most objectified female character of our time.

And yet, despite knowing that that's not really a good thing - because clearly he did all of that for a reason and Reincarnation didn't really do all that despite being a Gacha - he continues to just... enable people (and by people I do mean Men) to keep doing these kinds of disgusting behaviours to an entire gender, fictional or not. Things that Automata at least to some degree criticizes through 9S (like there's a reason he's the final boss you guys)

And I guess it just feels shitty to see Yoko Taro publicly give this game his stamp of approval when the entire existential premise for Stellar Blade seems to be that clip of Yoko Taro saying "I just really like girls"; a shitty quote that 100% has caused women some societal harm he has yet to r3pent for because Gamers took it and ran - and now we have another game with a big tits SciFi Woman for Men to objectify and I'm pretty sure this one won't have the underlying subtext of "maybe objectifying women is not all that great you guys"

But then there's stuff like putting a shallow husk of 2B - and they somehow also always feature the butt out version too, isn't that interesting - into any game that will take her - which is pretty much every game that is physically able to because thanks to her standing for nothing but ass woman in the popular conscious everyone wants a piece of that free money from horny gamers.

And I guess I have to legally state that that's fine or else the horny fun police is taking me in, but with how he's treating this character outside of the game it feels like it does such a disservice to the points he makes in his games (plural bc of dod3) and that fucking sucks because clearly the world isn't ready to move on from 2B so she'll be around, and with her a symbol that actually, it's fine to objectify your female characters - full stop because nobody but us few cares about the things he's criticizing through subtext.

And it sucks that to SquareEnix her stupid ass (like literally just her ass) is going to overshadow anything Reincarnation has ever done, all the interesting points it makes about societal agency and human relationships and gender and consent and family - because I wouldn't be surprised if NieR 4 manages to barely acknowledge Reincarnation's existence at all while still churning out YoRHa DLC - I mean just look at how they treat Drakengard, which for its 20th anniversary got... an entire tweet.

Like. They didn't even play Reincarnation Music at the NieR Concert!!! Not even Inori!!! It's been three years, why was there no Reincarnation Music at the fucking NieR concert??? I guess we'll just hear Grandma and Kainé and Weight of the World Remixes forever because squeenix mandated that everything that's not the big 2 games can only be referenced in vague subtext (and listen, I love how NieR treats Drakengard Lore, I will be severly disappointed if he ever actually explains any of it - it just hurts my soul that Kuroi Hana has never been performed live) (also y:da's final boss theme should have been a kuroi hana arrangement and not kainé but i guess licensing is a bitch so there's that)

But I mean it is kind of funny that NieR Reincarnation is in a Reincarnation Cage of its own. It's living in the shadow of its predecessors, grappling with the fact that it was born shouldering the burden of Reincarnation. Another Yoko Taro story whose story is about itself. (can i interest you in a german review i wrote where i explain which other yoko taro story also does that) (it's y:da, it's always y:da)

I guess all I can say is that you're clowning about Women, Yoko Taro, and I really hate that. Do Better, as they say. I wish you would publicly talk about literally anything else at this point, especially since you made a good point and then ruined it by not just simply shutting up about it like you do about anything else you do. (remember the ff14 live stream where he proceeded to not answer a single question about y:da? iconic behavior and absolutely the right choice)

And you have so many other good points to make that you could talk about instead! ...then again I swear to mother if Kamierabi really is about how Abortions are bad I will abort you, we have a perfectly capable successor in Yuki Wada right there. (btw praise be Yuki Wada, the true hero of this story, living his dream with his two nier ocs hina and yuzuki)

achievement UNLOCKED, exam passed, thank you thank you thank you to @pandolfo-malatesta and @girlfriendsofthegalaxy and everyone else who was kind and supportive, which is a bunch of you. i passed on thursday and then sort of gave up on having a physical form/passed out in the backyard for the next few days, ahahaha.

...what happens now... dissertation...proposal...(⊙_⊙;)

reading on the recommendation of Lady Wot I am Seeing (we talked and it’s official, i asked her and she said ‘yes’, hereafter ‘C’) i started Watership Down by richard adams this weekend. i had a whole little entry already written about it here, but i closed the page through some clumsy keyboarding and lost it, so i’ll just...i’m so here for the tolkien-esque dedication to the rabbits language and mythology. i got to the lines about the Prince of a Thousand Enemies and "first they much catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning,” and the rhythm here...just slaps, i can’t get over it.

listening i spent the last few days in the spotify pentatonix playlist, don’t @ meeee. their cover of ‘cheerleader’ has been stuck in my head, it’s so. happy? yeah. sorry the official video has such glee energy, i didn’t expect that and it’s making me very 🤦‍♀️

watching i may not have done much on friday and i absolutely overdid it with an ambitious bike ride on saturday, but i *did* manage to watch the first 8 episodes of heaven official’s blessing / tgcf and y’all. this show is gorgeous. i’m extremely into how they’re animating xie lian, his eyeliner is divine. i like his gentleness, too, the combination of kindheartedness and the hints of badassery; i like the shape the animators give to his eyebrows when thoughtful, concerned, etc. smarter people than i, i’m sure, have analyzed some of the strengths and weaknesses in the first few episodes, esp. the xuan ji / pei ming plot and how much attention is paid to xie lian in the bride’s clothes, but. my boy looked beautiful. also the palate for this show is incredible? screenshot from the credits to show you what i mean:

playing dnd postponed this week, but we had player meetings with our incoming interim dm! one thing about this group, which i think i like, is that there has been a lot of sharing of dm-power, so various players have been able to take over for a campaign and the group as a whole has gotten to experience each other’s styles and also learn how to play in different roles. will i take a turn? that’s extremely t b d.

making i cooked dinner a few times, i uhhhhh need to repot this marigold seedling, i am not making anything consistently rn, i need to catch up on the many balls i dropped finalizing my fields prep. i will probably make some (dubious) music this weekend, recording final choir videos. those will never see the light of day (except to be sent to the sound-mixing wizards and buried among everyone else’s) but i mention them bc it’s a creative outlet, or w/e.

working on i’ve got to actually sign and submit the paperwork side of things to be ‘done’ with fields, but! i’m done with fields! i’m going to burn through some RA hours this week before the month ends, and then slap together a book history proposal in time to spend the summer on that. 16th century welsh book history / palaeography, my beloved? we’ll see.

drop ur top TSCO moments

ok this is literally gonna make zero sense to anyone here but since u asked i will indulge!

1. canada in a day

this is 1 min 54 secs of tsco, no filters, just pure unrivaled joy. they open with “hello, canada!” and scott sings “it’s meeee” which is like the cheesiest thing ever BUT he makes her laugh which is a win for all of canada. in the next scene scott asks the iconic “what do you love?” and tessa is like “canada!” bc cmon they r doing this vid for canada in a day! little does tessa know that virtuemoir IS canada and scott rightfully calls her out by saying “ooh, thought it was gonna be me!” and i 100% AGREE bc they did not spent 20 years of their lives being announced as “representing canada, tessa virtue and scott moir” for tessa to say that, i rest my case. moving on, do u realise that after every question scott manages to make! her! laugh! and also i love this format where they ask each other questions they should do this all the time and i’m filing this video in my folder titled “reasons_why_vm_should_host_a_podcast”. there r many more moments esp all the eye contact but literally tessa laughs every .2 seconds and they r obvs v happy and therefore i am happy! listen, i don’t know what they ate before this video, but can i have some of that plz bc i want to be this happy all the time & even though there’s uncopyrighted music playing in the background it is truly a piece of art and will 4ever be my fav video of them.

2. newlywed game

firstly, on a completely self indulgent and superficial note, they look so good here. like this is latch!Scott and prince!Tessa united and i am so glad my parents found each other at last. i know i know, ofc we have to talk abt the “sometimes you’re just so restless,,,, I READ” quote that has been gifed to a ridiculous degree, history books will talk about this moment and i can’t say i’m mad about it. BUT we r here to talk about tsco not “shippy moments” so let’s get down to business. in this vid scott is clearly trying to make tessa laugh throughout and he SUCCEEDS so we get 3 mins of tessa virtue laughing and scott teasing her so this is tsco certified! also i want to personally thank whoever’s idea this was bc i googled and NO OTHER SKATER (besides the ummm shibsibs????? cosmopolitan i have QUESTIONS) did this so i am calling it right now that skate canada is a vmie thru and thru also idk what it is w putting uncopyrighted music behind these vids but u know what v/m really make anything work!!

3. 2015 canadian nationals

this is honestly what i want in life. i just want to skate around an ice rink w my soulmate when it is dark at night and have him compliment me IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK??? at 23 seconds in right before the camera cuts u see tessa leaning towards him and i’m not saying that it has to be anything but the camera cuts so we will never know! can u imagine turning on ur tv and being like ooh nationals is on and then seeing this? i just think that no other opening will ever top this one bc they don’t even say anything about the nationals for all i know this could be some ad bc it’s just them goofing around an ice rink but it WORKS and here’s to hoping skate canada will open nationals like this every year bc i would watch the whole thing. when scott tells me to enjoy my commercial break i will gladly do so bc i just witnessed the best 40 seconds in my life.

4. worlds 2017 post fd interview

the real tsco moment starts at 2:02 and even though it is only 15 secs long that 15 secs just extended my life span by 5 years. i watch this daily to get a free boost of serotonin and i highly recommend u do too!

5. the soi proposal

as u can tell, i do not have a video/gif to accompany this bc 1. i do not want to go looking for it 2. like scott, i prefer to think of it as a fever dream. this is hands down the most chaotic thing that vm has ever done and i don’t think i’ll ever recover. the power that that has, the intelligence that that has, the clearance that that has, the access that that has, the influence that that has, the profile that that has, the international implications that that has. omg. it is literally the COLLAPSE of the vm fandom i was watching it in class one day and one of my classmates yelled OH MY GOD SHE PROPOSED TO HIM and started freaking out even though i have mentioned vm probably once to her.

Zach Roberts and Christopher Dayfield

Chris has worked at the school way longer than Zach, so when Zach started his job, he was so ready to place a face to the name “Dayfield.” He also heard kids talking about Chris, so he thought he’d probably get along well with him. When he finally met Chris, he was instantly gay.

They first meet after Chris finds Zach crying in the drama room after it got wrecked. Chris wasn’t the biggest help, but Zach was relived to have someone. Chris was going backstage to grab some things when he stumbled across Zach. 

Chris offers to help rebuild the set, and Zach is like, “oh, no, it’s fine.” Chris spends long hours after school on painting the sets, and Zach is so shocked when he sees the sets.

“Oh yeah, I’m an art teacher, that’s why I offered to help.” “Oh! You’re the man I’ve heard about!” “What?” “Nothing... I’m Mr. Roberts-” “I’m Mr. Dayfield,” insert Zach’s gay squeals “But you can call me Chris.” Insert even louder gay squeals.

Zach is so obviously crushing on this dude. At meetings, he’ll stare at Chris and loose his train of thought and totally blank out. He’s usually the flirty type, but just totally looses his mind.

One meeting, Chris was wearing his art hoe clothes, instead of his hoodie, and Zach just looses his shit, since he has never seen Chris like that before.

They both happen to be senior class sponsors, and are selling tickets. Zach spots Chris, and is instantly like, “oh, shit, he’s not selling tickets, is he?”  Chris comes over with a smile, like “hey, Zach! I didn’t know you were selling tickets too!” and Zach is instantly flustered. They do start to get closer, after sitting together at football games.

After one game, Chris asked Zach if he wanted to come over, and Zach panicked.  Nervous laughter, “Like a-a date?! Like-like, uh... Come over, like a date?” Chris totally knows he’s terrorizing Zach. He caught on that Zach only gets this flustered around Chris.

Chris continues to tease Zach a bit, just loving to see him flustered. Finally, he admits it, and Zach’s face just drops because, hey, he’s an actor, he should’ve caught on. 

They don’t officially date until a long while later.

One day, Chris is sick and gets Zach to be a sub for his class. The day before, he was asking his kids about needing a sub, when Zach walks in (he likes to some up to Chris’ class sometime), and he takes up the offer since a drama student begged.  Chris: I think he’d be a great sub. (winks at Zach) Zach: gets a boner on the spot

 He sucks at art, and is just way more interested in all the little art tools, but the kids still love him. 

Once Chris gets back, all the kids beg for Zach back. Chris insists he has his own class, but Zach is free that period. He comes in and the sexual tension between he and Chris is real. The class all try to ask Zach if they can transfer to his class after that, but Zach insists that Chris is a great teacher, and that the kids really shouldn’t leave.

There’s just a lot of rumors of the two dating and such going around.

Zach texts Chris the strangest things. Zach: Guess what’s tomorrow Zach: Guess! Zach: Please guess Zach: Skull emoji Chris: I was asleep... Why are you texting me? Zach: Wrong answer. Tomorrow is Hamlet!

Zach also constantly corrects Chris’ grammar constantly, such as when he watches students Snapchat stories.

Zach is the founder of the GSA and totally begs Chris to help with it because he’s desperate to spend more time with him. 

Zach then asks if Chris wants to go to pride, and Chris replies with, “I’m usually not a big fan of pride-” which scares Zach, but then finished with, “but I’d gladly go with you.”

While at pride, a man is handing out rainbow condoms, and Chris takes one and teases, “we’ll need this later,” and Zach freaks out because 1. Chris never jokes like that, and 2. he thought Chris was serious for a minute. Chris only joked about it since he was drunk at pride.  “I - uh, I - really?” “Zach, no. I was kidding.” “Oh! Ri-right!”

. Chris gets drunk so quick. At pride, it only took him two drinks, and he was wasted. Zach, however, was just barely buzzed. Zach finally offers to drive Chris to his house, and Zach gets more drunk. Chris is clinging to him, and is all cuddly. “Zaaach, I knooow you like meeee.” “I - what? You - I - what?!” “It’s ssssoooo obvious. That’s why I love to tease you about it. You should... be my boyfriend.” “Are you sure? I - Chris, you’re drunk, are you sure? Just- ask me in the morning... You’ll regret it, please-”

Chris stays the night that night, and falls asleep on Zach. Zach is so gay.

The next morning, Zach was awake first, spent wondering if Chris was serious about it. Finally, when Chris wakes up, he’s quiet, before Zach spits out a, ‘were you serious about last night?’ Chris is just totally confused, and it crushes the boy’s heart. Finally, Zach mentions it and Chris freaks out. “How much did I say?” “I just... Did you mean it? “I mean, yeah.”

Zach loses his shit. That’s when it finally becomes official.

They spend a lot of time together after that. Of course they do, they’re super head over heels.

One night, they’re drunk, and Zach posts to his students only Snapchat (he has one for students, and one for his personal friends) of he and Chris kissing, and Chris posts a picture of shirtless Zach on his art Instagram, with the caption “fun night!” (spelled horribly, since he’s drunk). Only two students see, before they delete them, and rumors get even more severe. 

Zach also posts pictures of Chris covered in lipstick smears on Chris’ Instagram as well. Zach tries to be mockingly artsy, and most of the pictures turn out pretty bad. Some do actually come out pretty well.  The caption: My boyfriend’s recent art project - me

Chris always goes to every show that Zach stars in, since he also works at local theaters. Zach finally lets Chris backstage and Chris gets way too excited. “You mean, I can go back there?!” “If I sneak you.”

During intermission, they start making out and getting a bit too saucy. Two minutes before Zach’s about to go on stage, and he’s shirtless, his hair a mess, and bite marks on his neck. The director walks in on them making out, and screams.  Zach needed to quickly get dressed and on stage, as a hot mess.

It has happened more than once.

Still, no students know the two are officially dating at all, yet so many have assumed. 

It isn’t until they actually get engaged that people know (which is about three years later, and yes, they’re still teaching). 

There was a class that started as freshmen, who were there when Zach first started his job, and cheered him on once they found out they were engaged.

Zach proposed, via ‘inviting Chris to a “special play,”’ which was how he proposed. Via play.

A kid, who didn’t even know about the rumors and theories of Zach and Chris dating before (because most kids who had theories were in drama or GSA), asks about the ring, and who Chris is engaged to.  “Mr. Roberts.” “Wait, like... Mr. Roberts. Mr. Roberts?”  “Yes, now can we get back to-” “Like the drama teacher?” “Yes, now back to work.”

Zach, however, can’t keep it a secret. He comes into his first period class, with donuts, and the whole class asks what the occasion is, and he’s straight up like, “Listen, fuckers, I got engaged...” and keeps the class waiting, before finishing. “To Mr. Dayfield.” His first period is full of the seniors who were freshmen the very first day that Zach started the job, so they all flip their shit. 

Soon enough, the whole school knows.
