I actually had to double take when I read the post, because I too have a post apoc Waterworld-type prompt. I was like 'WAIT OTHER PEOPLE LIKE THIS IDEA TOO?'

“Hiro, you’ve got to face your fear of the water. Look, we’ll even stay in the shallow end, okay?” Mari didn’t even flinch, turning away from him, she peeled her shirt up and over her head, revealing the red and black spotted bikini and shorts number underneath. It always felt better to let her skin breathe instead of the stuffy clothes, but you know, public decency laws and stuff always got in the way. 

She turned around, facing her companion as they stood on the steps of the shallow end of Fred’s pool. It was easier to do it here than at the docks since it was safer, not to mention much cleaner. She held out both hands to him, palms upward, smiling as warmly and as encouragingly as she could, “Just to your waist today, okay? For my sake, please?"

They’d met through the school of course, but there was something a little off about Marinette. She was different from any girl that had ever been in Sanfran, and for good reason. She had one hell of a secret, and before you call out ‘LadyBug’, oh no, it’s much bigger than that. 

Perhaps it was why she always seemed to almost glow a little in the water, as though she were completely at home under the depths of the sea. She always seemed to want to go swimming or something, and lately, she’d been keeping more waterbottles around, too. It was odd, but, nothing too out of the ordinary, right? At least she hoped not, “Hiro?” She waggled her fingers at the young man, “C’mon, don’t leave me hanging.” @technoheart

Days 5 & 6: Teo, Aesthetic & Influences/Inspirations 
So, here’s the thing. Teo was named after Theodosia Burr. 
I know. 
The name “Theo Burr" was basically all that they shared in common, give or take a nebulous connection to “Alexander Schuyler,” who would later be renamed “Alejandro” and then just “Alej.” The characters were originally part of an RP with a friend about a dystopian castle-like structure that ranked its citizens, and Teo and Alej were smuggling devices that could open cracks in the wall, revealing that their “castle” was actually a ship. Very Persephone Hadestown, come to think of it. Perhaps that was an unconscious influence. 
When I took Theo from the RP and transformed him into Teo, I took the ship idea and ran with it, slamming together a steampunk aesthetic and a post-apocalyptic dystopian premise of a world swallowed by the sea—kind of like Waterworld, except I’ve never actually seen that movie. My first idea for backstory was that Teo mutinied against his captain and took over the ship so they could raid the land for supplies they were desperately running out of. That didn’t work because Teo is so community-oriented, and because I didn’t want to portray the Deaf shipmen as predatory or somehow “taking up” resources that belong to hearing people. 
Teo was always Deaf from the start. I was taking ASL classes at the time of the RP and as I learned more and more about Deafness and Deaf culture, I revised aspects of his character accordingly. He is never going to be perfect representation, but I want to be as respectful as I can. Teo is not a “villain” because of his Deafness. He’s not even a villain at all, but that’s something the book is going to address. Teo became radicalized after a horrifying invasion of his bodily autonomy by ableist hearing people who think that difference is a defect. I guess you could say the greatest influence on Teo’s character throughout his whole development is me learning to confront my own ableism and try to understand the righteous anger of some Deaf people over a society that treats them as broken. Haven’t they earned a little wrath?

RPGs; a side project/idea

It’s Friday, and the weekend is approaching. It’s the time for most of us to get together and spend time with friends and family. And what we do during this time varies, but I know there are a lot of us that are interested in Tabletop RPG, or role playing.

I have been role playing for a very long time now, I think it officially makes me a Grognard because I have a gray wizard beard. This experience can be yours if you want to take advantage of it as your story teller or GM.

I am suggesting a paid GM service, but I don’t know how to rate the prices. So it’s completely negotiable.

How will this work?

Contact me with the type of game you want to play. Not the system. Then with the idea of what you want to play we can discuss a system. If you just want to play (for example) DnD, Dungeons & Dragons, we will have to talk edition but I’m not against it. Then, on discord; 1st meeting, character organization. 2nd Meeting, the first game session. After that we can discuss pricing.

Personally, my favorite system is Cyberpunk 2020, it’s fun and deadly, and tells a story of people against the cement walls of dominant corporate infrastructure with cybernetics. How will you win your personal battle?

My second favorite is oWoD (old World of Darkness). It’s a story telling system where you play the nightmare. Vampires, warewolves, and mages are the core groups, but each is deeply explored with their numerous splat books.

I love fantasy just as much as everyone, and you can’t imagine fantasy without having heard about DnD (D&D, Dungeons & Dragons). It was originally written as an event crawler in the same fashion as Lord of the Rings. That’s really what it’s supposed to be.

Don’t want to do these? Have something more obscure? I have played an “Aliens” game where we copied the script and played our own group instead of the Colonial Marines. CATastrophy, a game of post apoch Waterworld scenario where everyone is a catgirl (weird & fun). MAID, where madness and maid uniforms are mandatory. Doctor Who RPG, the ongoing seasons of the SciFi show and the original series both had an RP book made for them. Mutants & Masterminds where you are your own Marvel or DC superhero. Star Wars RP, that doesn’t need explaining, but we could fix the prequels with our own mix. And a self written version of Transformers. No, not the “Bayformers” type, but the original cartoons that are still better than that mess. And last but not least; Wharhammer 40k, or WH40K. I’m not up on the current lore, but the setting can be fun.

What I’m trying to say is that there are more types of games that could be played than most people realize. And I love playing them. I have never enjoyed games that you play by yourself as the table top gaming has more personality, color, possibility, variation, and overall enjoyment.

My style of GM is to emphasize “role” rather than “roll” for Role Playing. I want to have a moment that sits as a halmark for the character, not just because it was a good roll, but because we’re having a good time. Rolls are just for the mechanics, but GMing or story telling is much more robust than “just roll a die”.

The possibilities of Alien-Flora, buildings and mechanics to make this flora grow, settling on a new planet and the steps to terraform it, and  the different concepts for Planets in general are very interesting! On this blog there had been for now only been played with colours- blue sunlight as blue ire burns the hottest, red mold because it has a high iron concentration and is used in spacer-food for the nutrients, blue grass or violet treeleafs since they are not ptoducing chlorophyll but different chemicals. Yet those concepts are so tame, on could go even more outlandish: Waterworlds where algea phosphoresce and make the oceans glow like a sun, Forestworlds with layer of layers of layers of leafcanopy so that one could never see the sun but only the leafsabove ones head, dead worlds where buildings are just self-contained hothouses where under a thick bubble gadens grow while the rest of the planet is dead and lost, a old freighter that is long abonded by sentient species but on which the pilots house-plants had grown since years and now the freighter is a garden with breathable air since the plants are getting the nutrients from the left behind storages and every inch of the freighters inside is overgrown like a forest drifting through dead space.... There are so many images one could paint as a sci-fi botanist and I want to describe them all!

I do! And it depends on for what. For my books, I tend to put on new age/ambient music (Diane Arkenstone, Llewellyn, Native Flute, Andrew Lahiff) - But for RP writing, I like character appropriate. For Xiuying I like having my various Chinese traditional albums on (or the Shenmue 2 OST). If it’s someone like Ko or my DHunter, I’ll just have something like WoW music, Two Worlds, or something like Jurassic Park or Waterworld. 

It’s fairly rare that I’ll listen to music with lyrics if I’m writing anything, but sometimes it happens!
