Because of this, so many parents say things like “I just thought I was a bad mom” or feel like they can’t tell anyone. We have listed just a few of the signs and symptoms you may experience with perinatal depression. We will be highlighting different mental health complications over the next few days. So what’s the good news?? ᠁ You’re not alone if you experience this. In fact, it’s the # 1 complication of childbirth! ᠁ If you get appropriate help, you can be well again. You don’t have to feel this way forever. Help for depression during pregnancy and postpartum can be: support groups, talking to a counselor/therapist, getting adequate sleep, water, and body movement, and possibly medication. ᠁ Your physical, mental, and emotional help is as important as the rest of your family’s. In fact, prioritizing yourself means you can care for your family to the best of your ability. 👉 In Utah, you can visit MaternalMentalHealth.utah.gov to find help. You can search for support groups (most are online, and many are free!), as well as lots of other professionals. 👉 If you live elsewhere, a good place to start is postpartum.net.
