Flash End-of-Life Alternatives (Important)
Hey everyone! I knew I made a list of alternatives but I figured I should delete the old one and make a new one since I don’t feel like I’ve emphasized the security issues with Flash plug-ins strongly enough.
The Adobe Flash Player plugin has serious security flaws and it’s highly recommended not to have Flash Player on browsers anymore. If you really want to do it, please do it with extreme caution.
Here are the safer alternatives to using Flash. I cannot validate the safety of them completely (I am not knowledgeable on information security), but they are definitely much safer than the former.
Ruffle web extension. Ruffle is an Flash emulator that was developed with solving Flash Player’s security issues in mind. It is still in development and doesn’t support newer Flash games entirely yet, but it is a good replacement to the Flash Player plugin. Ruffle is really good to run Flash games on the browser!
BlueMaxima’s Flashpoint. Flashpoint (or more specifically, Flashpoint Infinity) is a program that downloads online games from their server and allows you to play the games using the program. What’s nice about Flashpoint is that it allows you to run games that are sitelocked or require internet access by using a “fake server” within the program, such that the games don’t actually connect to the internet.
If you wish to run downloaded Flash games locally, there are two alternatives:
The best way to do it is to download the Ruffle Nightly Build. They are the equivalent of the local Adobe Flash Player, but Ruffle is honestly a lot better. The only drawback to it is doesn’t fully support newer Flash games.
The second best solution is to use a local Adobe Flash Player. I have come to realize that the local Adobe Flash Player (and executable files) still allows online connections and requests, which means that this may be the least safe option among the safer alternatives, although it is still somewhat safe. But you might want to run them with caution.
In the meantime, I’ll keep uploading games to my archive.org account. I won’t upload more on my MEGA drive but keep it open; I am a little worried about the safety of local Flash Players since there’s not much info on it online. Let me know if you guys know their safety level so I can update this!

Current and Future Inactivity
Hello, everyone! I’m so sorry for the frequent inactivity. I’ve been having struggling with my mental health, so I have been taking a break from this blog and the side blog. However, I am slowly recovering, and while I haven’t reached my best state just yet, hopefully I will be better soon!
With that in mind, as well as the discontinuation of Flash on Chrome, unfortunately I will take an indefinite break from finding links to Flash games as of now. I will prioritize finishing off my final year of university as well as recovering from my mental health problems. I apologize for not notifying this sooner and I hope you guys understand.
I highly recommend checking out Flashpoint (thanks Anon for the info!). It’s a collaborative software built to play various online games offline. It has covered a wide catalog of games and solved many issues from certain games that we couldn’t in this blog. Here’s the link in case anyone is interested! If you are able to help, they also need curators to find more Flash games!
I’ll try my best to answer the asks that are being sent, but I apologize that it might take a while.
I am also still working on uploading online games on archive.org, but I think the process will be slowed down. I also need to find better ways to upload the games, and I might have to learn the more technical stuff behind it (and ask help from my more tech-savvy friend!).
I will also still post on the side blog, @web-back-then-blog! It’s where I post screenshot and media from older websites :).
Again, thank you so much for all the support - we definitely appreciate it! If it weren’t for you guys, we wouldn’t have reached this far, so thank you!

Online Games for Offline Playing
Sorry for all being inactive for so long, but we just finished exams and now we are back to posting and answering questions!
We also have a few announcements to make!
First off, Adobe Flash will be discontinued on Google Chrome by December 2020. Due to this, our quickest alternative is to save the game files and convert them to executable files. With this, you can download the games and play them offline. We have uploaded some of them on our archive.org account! In our uploads, we have solved some issues with the games on archive.org as well, so do check them out!
Also, if anyone has a Mac and knows how to make the executable games compatible to Mac, that would be greatly appreciated!
We have favorited some online (and CD) games uploaded by other users, which you can find here! They have some really cool stuff as well!
We have also created an Excel database showcasing the games we have (although it’s not complete yet) and one’s we are working on! We have also listed some issues we currently have with the games and missing games we can’t find, so if you can help in any way, do message us!
Lastly, thank you so much for being so supportive for this blog! We have recently reached 2000 followers and we are so grateful for all your enthusiasm and kindness! 💖

MyScene games are now in Web-Back-Then!
As requested by anon, now we have MyScene game links from archive.org!
However, Beauty Studio and Room Makeover links will not be posted as the links archived are very, very glitchy. If you want to play these games, you can look them up online.
Also, do you guys also want us to post links to the MyScene character profiles? Do comment or message us your suggestions! :)

Hey there! As you may know, not all games are available on archive.org, but if you’re lucky, there are certain websites that still have these games. However, these websites typically host third-party advertising and sometimes claim these games as their own, which may not be something all of you agree with/want to see.
So, we were wondering if you guys think we should give these links. If you want, please fill out this poll! Commenting your opinions on this post is also greatly appreciated!
Link to the poll: https://linkto.run/p/P2J7Q4XW
Link to the results: https://linkto.run/r/P2J7Q4XW
We’ll wait for about a month or two for the final results :)
Thank you so much for your help and support!

Disney games are now in Web-Back-Then!
As per anon’s and @small-child-of-rude-intent‘s requests, we are adding games from Disney - this includes Disney Channel and Playhouse Disney!
We thank Nostalgiavault on YouTube for the main link to Playhouse Disney and disney.go.com! Their videos have been very helpful on our search! Go watch their videos for some really nice Playhouse Disney and other old website gameplays!
Due to semester starting, we haven’t been able to probably test some games. If you find any problem and/or manage to find a loophole to fix it, please do leave a comment or message us!

1000 Followers!
We can’t believe we have reached the big 1000! We can’t thank you enough for all your love and support! Without you guys, we would never even have imagined reaching this far~! <3
We also have an announcement regarding the blog, do read below! :)
Regarding game links
First of all, thanks so much for responding to the poll! The results show that you guys don’t mind us posting links other than from archive.org!
We’ll still prioritize game links from archive.org, but if we can’t, we’ll look around Google to see if any other website is hosting the game! However, we will give out warnings since these websites are more questionable than archive.org.

On Requesting
We have been receiving a lot of asks requesting games for a while, so thank you so much for that! We love to hear input and requests from you guys and we are glad to help however we can! <3
However, lately we can’t find some games you requested, and we realize we haven’t really mentioned what games are less likely to be archived on archive.org.
Archive.org (normally) does not archive content from MMORPGs and/or websites which require account log-ins and/or subscriptions/memberships. Examples of these include Barbie Girls, Pixie Hollow, Fantage, etc.
If you request games from these types of websites, chances are they are not available.
We’re really sorry about the inconvenience!

Welcome!
Hello and welcome, dear reader! We are really excited to launch Web-Back-Then!
My friend and I have created this Tumblr page to collect and archive working links mainly from archive.org and rediscover mini games from beloved childhood websites that are no longer available. This is because archive.org sometimes redirects to broken/incomplete links within the website, so it can be rather tedious to find an actual working link.
If you want a more detailed explanation, we have a help page that may be helpful. We will also be be updating our About page. One important thing to note from our help page is that all the games require Flash (here’s a guide on how to enable Flash on Chrome).
Please note that we do not own anything - all credit belongs to the respective owners.
Of course, we must admit that Web-Back-Then is still messy and empty, but don't fret! We will try to update more links over time.
