I am reviving this blog to fulfill an assignment in a graduate course I am taking toward a marketing management degree (MGMT S-6655). In our course, we are discussing the power and place of blogging in the digital world of marcomms. Tumblr, WordPress, and Medium are held as some of the most popular social platforms specific to blogging.
I first created this blog nearly 10 years ago after taking a photojournalism course in my undergraduate degree. I appreciate that my education has inspired me to continue to share my work in a creative space. Shortly after publishing this blog, I studied abroad in Galway, Ireland. This opportunity allowed me to capture many beautiful places in Ireland and other European cities during my travels.
Tumblr feels like an especially perfect outlet for sharing the photos I most like to take, which span styles/genres and can be quite random - landmarks, street life, nature. Since I last posted on this blog in 2017, I have worked in photojournalism and have also delved into portrait photography as a side job, including weddings and family photos. I now work in communications and incorporate some photography into my job, though my role mainly focuses on writing and web management. In my free time I hope to sharpen my skills in travel/street life photos, as this is the area I enjoy most.
Here I share some photos on a recent trip to London in June 2024. It is fun to compare how my photography style has evolved and/or stayed consistent in terms of the subjects I like to capture.

hi emma…i would like to ask you a question: If you could go back in time, what would you change regarding your career choice? I also work with technology…but I love photography because it encourages my creativity. I'm a frontend and sometimes I find it a very monotonous and repetitive job. If you can answer. I thank.
I got into software engineering because I love programming and programming languages. It's definitely been weird making my hobby my job. I don't know if I'd recommend it to everyone.
I think I would do it again, though. I've landed in this weird, full stack world on the web. Now I'm a manager (which has also been weird). I would probably pick a different field like mobile or some open source packages or applications or something. There's some cool stuff in the mobile world and in the Rust world I'd love to be a part of, and maybe I will be one day.
Having my hobby as a job has made me very wary of turning other hobbies into jobs. That's why the iOS app I make is free, why I publish some open source packages, and why I don't sell prints of my photography. Charging for stuff feels very job-y.
There's a whole bunch of photography jobs but they all seem pretty dismal to me. Events, weddings, product, real estate, and portraits are probably the most common around here and all sound horrible.
Then there's the more art-y photography jobs like landscape, fine art, and photojournalism. Those seem fine, and even in my general photography vicinity (which I mostly consider street photography of various flavors). However, seem super stressful to find the right shot, hunting, planning, and are even dependent on the weather? Phew, too stressful for me.

On rainy days I try to read another book, and wander through my files, my memories. When @vickiknits and I landed in Indiana to take care of her parents, I think Vicki wanted to find me a friend and suggested I meet Ralph Pyle. He had made her high school portraits and photographed her first wedding. I didn’t think a commercial photographer and I would have that much to talk about but was surprised to find how much I enjoyed hearing about Ralph’s life. He was a photographer in the Army in WW2 and Korea, and he could have been a great photo journalist. If you are stuck with a rainy day, and no book calls to you, take a tour of the Library of Congress. @librarycongress Veteran’s History Project When Ralph was in Korea, he had plenty of assignments from the Army, but also spent a good deal of his time trying to see what life was like for the people of Korea. Some of his photographs of children are heart breaking. Ralph Reeves Pyle, Jr. U.S. Army Staff Sargent, Photographer My photographs of Ralph are from 2008 and 2011, his photograph of “Hungry Children, Vi Jon Bu” is from 1951 🇺🇦💔🌎💔🌏💔🌍💔🇺🇦 #earth #america #korea #children #human #family #photographer #documentary #portrait #photography #schwarzweiss #blancoynegro #blancinegre #bnw #mediumformat #film #blancetnoir #白黒 #siyahbeyaz #shirokuro #blackandwhite #pdx #portland #nw #northwest #oregon #photojournalism #veterans #history #project https://www.instagram.com/p/CpnnRfbvYcz/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hey, I'm Sandra, I'm 31 years old and I live in Poznan, Poland. I've loved Lego since I was 4 years old and photography since my teenage years - I first combined these two passions about 6 years ago, but I didn't photograph Lego regularly.
Professionally, I have done photojournalism, event, sports and wedding photography. Currently, I work as a Product Manager in an educational publishing house.
I enter the world of photographing bricks and minifigures in every free moment and I publish the results of this adventure on my instagram @retzka.photobricks
I most enjoy telling short stories using minifigures and various elements, creating a small world with a cozy atmosphere. For each photograph I carefully choose the details and build the environment myself and I have a lot of fun doing it! Cheers! Sandra

Wedding Photography Styles – Finding The Right Fit
Tumblr media
Choosing the right photographer for your wedding is important because they capture moments that you’ll cherish for a lifetime. It’s important to note that the style of wedding photography you select will influence how these memories are documented whether in candid snapshots or more stylized compositions. Different photographers specialize in different styles, so you want to get an idea of what you’re looking for before you start researching photographers from our preferred vendor list. Not sure where to get started? Keep reading for a guide to popular wedding photography styles to help you find the best fit for your special day.
Traditional/Classic
Traditional wedding photography involves posed photographs where the subject is aware of the camera. The photographer often directs poses and arrangements to create a more formal and structured photo album. This style ensures that key moments like the exchange of rings, the first kiss, and family groupings are captured in a consistent manner. It’s perfect for couples who want to ensure all the crucial elements of their wedding are documented.
Photojournalistic
Photojournalism in wedding photography is all about capturing the day as it unfolds naturally, without interference from the photographer. This style produces more candid shots that convey the emotions and energy of the day. If you prefer a more spontaneous visual story that captures the natural flow of your wedding day, this might be the style for you.
Fine Art
Fine art wedding photography takes a more artistic approach, with the photographer applying their artistic judgment to create images with style. These photos are often dreamy and beautiful, with a focus on composition, lighting, and background. Fine art photographers typically use film to achieve a soft, organic quality in their photos, making this style ideal for couples looking for something a bit more visually poetic and timeless.
Lifestyle
Lifestyle photography is a blend of directed shots and candid moments. It’s more relaxed than traditional photography but more structured than photojournalism. This style focuses on producing natural images in a controlled setting and is a great option for couples who want their photographs to appear natural.
