//

Bologna and Piazza Maggiore turn red to celebrate Ducati's perfect season
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bologna and Piazza Maggiore turn red to celebrate Ducati's perfect season: Bagnaia and Bautista "Campioni in Piazza²" The streets of Bologna and its central square, Piazza Maggiore, were coloured in Ducati Red for the celebrations of an unforgettable 2022 racing year, which saw the Ducati Corse heroes conquer the Riders', Constructors' and Teams titles in the same season in both major motorcycle world championships: MotoGP and WorldSBK. An unprecedented triumph for the Borgo Panigale motorcycle manufacturer, which in this way wished to share this incredible joy with the Ducatisti and with the territory in which the company has always had its roots. Francesco Bagnaia and Álvaro Bautista were obviously the stars of the evening. From the stage in Piazza Maggiore, the World Champions received a tidal wave of affection from Ducatisti enthusiasts from all over the world , who could not fail to miss this historic moment of celebration, despite the rain and the cold temperatures. The city of Bologna, the Emilia-Romagna region and all of Italy celebrated together with Ducati the successes of a company that draws strength every day from its history, well rooted in Borgo Panigale, and at the same time is honoured to be ambassador of "Made in Italy" all over the world. The celebratory event got underway at around 8.00 pm CET on Thursday 15 December with a DJ-set by Fresco, a DJ and record producer known for his collaborations with Italian singer Jovanotti, interspersed with the irresistible comedy of Giuseppe Giacobazzi from Romagna, entertaining fans of all ages who had flocked to Piazza Maggiore.
Tumblr media
The key part of the evening started to the sound of Federico Poggipollini's guitar and the off-screen voice of the most famous Italian voice actor Luca Ward, who during the event became the protagonist of one of the most exciting passages, reciting a text in which the fundamental stages of the history of the Bologna-based manufacturer in the world of racing competition were retraced. The presentation of "Campioni in Piazza²" was entrusted to the journalist and great motorsport enthusiast Barbara Pedrotti, who began a round of interviews by inviting the Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali and the representatives of the territorial institutions, the President of the Emilia-Romagna Region Stefano Bonaccini and the Mayor of Bologna Matteo Lepore, onto the stage. Both figures underlined the importance of an event like this for the city and the added value offered by the collaboration with Ducati with a view to synergy with the entire Emilia-Romagna Motor Valley. The Ducati event continued with a speech by Ducati Corse General Manager Luigi Dall'Igna, who retraced the decisive moments of the season. From the stage, the audience was also greeted by all the other faces who best represent the successes of the Bologna-based manufacturer and who enthusiasts have now learned to recognize in the footage from the pits of circuits: Ducati Corse Sporting Director Paolo Ciabatti, Ducati Corse Technical Director Davide Barana, MotoGP Team Manager Davide Tardozzi, Team Principal Aruba.it Racing - Ducati Stefano Cecconi and WorldSBK Team Manager Serafino Foti. The climax of the evening came when the voice of MotoGP on Italian TV Guido Meda called the two most awaited names on stage: the 2022 WorldSBK World Champion Álvaro Bautista and the 2022 MotoGP World Champion Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia , who were welcomed with great enthusiasm by the public in Piazza Maggiore. The celebration of the successes of Bagnaia and Bautista was shared with the other Ducati riders present at the event: Axel Bassani, Enea Bastianini, Marco Bezzecchi, Chaz Davies, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Luca Marini, Michele Pirro and Michael Ruben Rinaldi. On stage, to celebrate the shared passion for sport and to pay their respects to the Ducati Champions, were also representatives of local and national sporting realities Lorenzo De Silvestri (Bologna Calcio football player), Pietro Aradori (Fortitudo Pallacanestro Bologna player) and Sabrina Cinili (captain of the Virtus Bologna women’s basketball team), together with the coach of the Italian national cycling team Daniele Bennati. During the "Campioni in Piazza²" event, a big surprise was also unveiled for all the most passionate Ducatisti. To pay homage to the world titles of Bagnaia and Bautista, Ducati has in fact created two special series of Panigale V4 in limited and numbered editions, with liveries inspired respectively by the Desmosedici GP22 and the Panigale V4 R of the World Champions and with dedicated components.
Tumblr media
These collector's bikes are characterized by having the liveries of Pecco Bagnaia #63 and Álvaro Bautista #19 and each bike is made unique by having the original signature of the rider on the fuel tank, protected with a layer of transparent varnish. In their production numbers, the two bikes celebrate the year Ducati was founded, 1926. Each series will in fact consist of only 260 units. Panigale V4 Bagnaia 2022 World Champion Replica and Panigale V4 Bautista 2022 World Champion Replica were displayed to the public in Piazza del Nettuno, flanked by the Desmosedici GP22 and the Panigale V4 R World Champion bikes and a Lamborghini Huracán STO, specially created for the occasion in Ducati Corse colours. During the press conference that preceded the event, the documentary "Nuvola Rossa: Bagnaia & Ducati's Perfect Comb1nation" was also presented, a short film that illustrates the most significant and exciting moments of the last three races of the MotoGP championship. The 20-minute documentary will be published on Ducati's official YouTube channel and on Ducati.com on 16 December at 12.00 PM CET. The press conference was also an opportunity to officially announce the dates for the presentation of the two official Ducati teams in MotoGP and WorldSBK for the 2023 season. "Campioni in Pista” (Champions on the Ski Track) will be held from 22nd to 24th January 2023 in the exceptional location of Madonna di Campiglio; during this event, organized in collaboration with Trentino Marketing and Madonna di Campiglio Tourist Board, Ducati will present the Ducati Lenovo Team and the Aruba.it Racing - Ducati team together for the first time. When you think of Millenium Milan's striker, the first thing that probably comes to mind is him: Andriy Shevchenko was world class for years and a veritable goalscorer for the Rossoneri. His exceptional performances earned him the title of European Footballer of the Year. He won the Italian top scorer twice and was also extremely dangerous in the Champions League. To this day he is high up in the list of all-time goalscorers in the elite European tournament. The Ukrainian was the declared favorite player of the then club owner Silvio Berlusconi. The strange turning point in his career was the move to Chelsea, where he could never even come close to his enormous level of performance from Milan. The return loan to AC did not help either, as he remained goalless. But that doesn't detract at all from the incredible feats accomplished by this legend. Welcome, Andriy Shevchenko! Record: 1999-2006+2008-2009, 226 games, 127 goals #milan #acmilan #ac #acmilano #sempremilan #followtherossonere #rossoneri #acm #dekadenteams #football #calcio #seriea #milleniumSL #milleniummilan #andriyshevchenko How do you remember Andriy Shevchenko? Tumblr media
background story ;
emilio was born after his sister, elena ( who is four years older than him ) in rome ( just call him a true roman boy at heart )
his father , who he was ( unfortunately ) named after, was what you would call a ‘functioning alcoholic’. functioning in the sense that he could drink a shit load and still show up to work as if nothing happened. besides that, his father wasn’t the nicest guy out there
in fact, he had impeccable standards for both his kids. he wanted his daughter to always look her best, as he stated that a girl is only as good as she looks, basically claiming that’s all elena had going for her  –  the fact that she was a pretty redhead, discarding her intelligence and personal feelings about his thoughts
for emilio, it was all about being the man of the house. he wanted him to play soccer ( or calcio in italian ), he wanted him to be completely detached from his feelings as he always stated that ‘men don’t cry’, he wanted him to be the biggest womanizer out there, basically? toxic masculinity at it’s finest. gross, close minded thoughts and principals that he forced his kids to follow
his mother, yolanda, was the sweetest person ever. so sweet, she kind of let her husband walk all over her out of fear of upsetting him. she didn’t agree with any of his ideas, but she was too meek, too soft spoken, to actually speak up about it. at the time, no one knew it was actually because she was really depressed
emilio wanted to please his father. he doesn’t know why considering he’s a drunk asshole, but he just really wanted his approval. he wanted him to be proud of him, so, he tried doing all the things he knew would make him happy. he joined the soccer team when he was six, he tried his hardest to hang out with the guys and get into as many sports as possible, he would discreetly point to girls when he was out with his father and claim ‘she’s really pretty’, even though honestly? all of these things made emilio very unhappy
he hated sports of any kind, he didn’t know why , but he felt no attraction to girls ( at the time of course, he didn’t know it was because he’s gay gay GAY ), he thought boys his age were immature and he had no interest to play with toys that were aimed for boys. the only time emilio felt like he could be himself was around his older sister
when no one was around, they would play with her dolls, she would jokingly put lipstick on him, and they would even model around the house wearing his mother’s jewelry. these were times where emilio genuinely felt happy and free, but as soon as his father would come home, it was back to doing things he didn’t like, but pretended to
and with his father’s ideas, he felt backwards. he didn’t understand why he couldn’t just be ‘normal’ ( his exact thoughts ) and actually like all the things his father wanted him to like. he felt like there was something seriously wrong with him for liking things that were aimed for girls because of all the bullshit ideas his father would put in his head. there were days where he desperately wanted to cry because he hated being the way he was, feeling the way he did, even though he wasn’t aware of his sexuality but he just knew that he was…. different , and he hated it
and then one day, the day before his ninth birthday, his parents are out and his sister is in her room. emilio starts wandering through his parents room, looking for a radio he knew they had stored somewhere in there. instead, he finds a large box filled with his mother’s make up, wigs, accessories, and all the nice things she uses to go out. really , he doesn’t know what comes over him, but he finds himself taking the box towards his parents’ bathroom and using the things that are in there
he starts by putting on his mother’s dress, then one of his favorite wigs that she owns, then he puts on a few accessories, and finally, he starts putting on her make up. her eyeliner, mascara, lipstick, the whole look, and once he’s done, emilio stands there, looking at himself in the mirror, and like the times where he genuinely smiles when it’s just him and his sister, he starts to genuinely smile while looking at himself. he felt alive, he thought he looked so, so pretty, but that moment of pure happiness doesn’t last too long
he doesn’t hear the front door unlock at all. the only thing he manages to see is the bathroom door swing open, his father standing there behind him, a look of horror and disgust on his face when he see’s what his son has done
! tws for abuse, homophobia, passing out, injuries and hospitals for the next 2 bullets, please skip over this if such things trigger you or proceed with caution ! the next few minutes seem to happen in slow motion for emilio. he starts stuttering out apologies, but before he can fully explain himself, he feels several punches being thrown his way. the last thing he remembers is hearing his mother and sister screaming at his father to stop, before the room turns completely black
the next day, emilio wakes up in the hospital. his injuries are bad, but what hurts the most is when he breathes. turns out, his father had fractured three of his ribs in the process of hitting him. the first person he see’s is his sister, and he can feel her holding his hand incredibly tight and he can clearly see the tears in her eyes. his mother is beside her, with the same expression on her face, but his father is nowhere to be found. right at that moment though, he walks through the door and asks for a moment alone with his son. emilio, terrified of what he would do, tries his best not to shake. the only thing his father does then is run his hands past his sons hair in the least comforting way possible. after that, he says ‘i’m sorry for doing that to you, but what do you expect me to do when you pull gay ass shit like that? no son of mines is gonna turn out that way’. to wrap up a sad story, they tell the hospital staff that his injuries are from kids at school rather than the truth, and emilio? spends his ninth birthday in the emergency room crying ( literally ) ! end of tws !
after that, emilio makes sure to hide every bit of who he is, even when only his sister is around. the only good thing about being injured was that he could get out of soccer practice and he missed a few days of school, but besides that, the atmosphere at the gatti household has never been more tense
around this time is when his father gets a job promotion in pensacola, florida. despite being an abusive alcoholic, he’s always taken his job very seriously. without much question, his family moves half way across the world
emilio is actually excited about this move because he thinks that this can be a huge chance to reinvent himself. maybe in a whole other continent, he can be a different person. maybe all the thoughts that his father so openly disagrees with could disappear here in america ( you can’t ungay yourself emilio but ok ), little does he know, it’s a lot easier said than done
for starters, he struggles a lot with the language. he’s only spoken italian all his life, so learning english is very difficult for him. on top of that, the thoughts he so desperately wants to get rid of only seem to get stronger in here. everything is so different and he finds himself so lost, it makes him depressed, because on top of not speaking the language, the older he gets, the more he starts realizing that his feelings aren’t going away
the move to america only seems to make his father’s attitude even worse as well, and he starts drinking even more, becomes even more verbally abusive, up to the point where emilio feels like he can’t even breathe around him. he knows that with one wrong move, that verbal abuse could turn physical real quick, so he does everything he can to get on his good side
thankfully, his mother becomes fed up with his father’s shit after a while, and after much convincing from his sister, they leave him like the scum he is, yolanda taking her two children and moving to inwood in new york, far away from him
for a while, things seem to look up for them . emilio finds himself understanding more and more english each day, actually making a decent amount of friends thanks to his spunky and out going attitude, his father is no longer around, which of course, is a huge plus, his grades are better than they were before, it all seems to be working out for them, of course, until it isn’t
fast forward a few months and his mother meets a man she soon marries after three months of knowing him. there were some upsides to this, as larry was nothing at all like his father, and thanks to him, his family manages to gain american citizenship, but…. his mother becomes very, very attached to him. emilio is skeptical about larry, but all he knows is that he makes his mother happy and that’s really all he cares about
this dream bubble doesn’t last long because one day, when they come home, larry’s things are gone. surprisingly? his mother smiles and claims it’s all okay, that’s she’s perfectly fine with him leaving, but later that night, it’s obvious that she’s most definitely not okay
! tws for self harm, mental illness and blood, please skip over this if such things trigger you or proceed with caution ! emilio is in the living room doing some homework and listening to music in low volume when he hears something fall to the ground from the kitchen. curiously of course, he walks over there to find his mother sitting on the kitchen floor, her wrists gushing with blood, and she’s shaking and crying. his stomach falls instantly and he screams for his sister. obviously, they call 911. unfortunately, his mother needs to be held for evaluation for a minimum of three days. even more unfortunately, three days turn into a week once she’s evaluated and they realize she is most definitely still not okay. emilio and elena are told their mother is depressed, and apparently has been depressed for a very long time  –  her husband leaving her just happened to be her breaking point, as she thinks it’s karma for leaving her husband, the father of her kids ( even though he was an awful person, but yolanda is convinced this is the reason larry left ) ! end of tws !
thankfully, she’s released after exactly a week and three days, but emilio still has the traumatic memory of seeing his mother that way. even though she appears to be a lot better mentally , he suddenly feels like it’s him and his sister’s job to take care of her , even though he’s struggling with his own issues ( school, his sexuality, etc ) . at the time, he was fifteen, and his sister was nineteen
after so many ‘days off’ from work , the gatti’s fall behind on rent , which forces his sister to get a second job to help make ends meet. emilio gets a part time job after school to help as well, so on top of the trauma he holds, both from his mother and his father, he also has to worry about being kicked out of their home
it’s a silly part time job at a bakery just a few blocks away from his house. emilio isn’t expecting much of it, basically just getting the job to help his family, but there, he meets… a guy
he’s sixteen, a year older than him, and remember those feelings emilio keeps trying so hard to push back? well, they just come pouring out of him, because he develops such a huge crush on this guy, even though he deeply denies it at first. surprisingly? this guy becomes his first ever boyfriend. literally cute, pure, high school love
despite his father not being in the picture anymore, emilio doesn’t feel like it’s his time to come out. his father’s words, unfortunately, have been practically welded into his brain, convincing him that being gay is wrong, but at this point, he’s no longer in denial. he knows he’s gay, he just doesn’t want everyone else to know ( at least not now, with all his problems going on at home )
the next year consists of attending visits to the psychiatrist and psychologist with his mother, helping make ends meet not just for rent, but for his mother’s medication, and juggling school as well. the first person emilio comes out to is his sister, when he’s sixteen, and her literal response? ‘i know, silly’. afterwards, he comes out to his mother, and thankfully, they’re both very accepting, even though he himself is still struggling with who he is, but he starts learning to accept himself more and more each day
emilio really finds himself in high school. not just with his sexuality , but his personality develops a lot more. he realizes he can be a huge brat when he doesn’t get his way, as he hates hearing the words no. starts experimenting with narcotics and alcohol , though he really only sticks to basic stuff like weed and cigarettes ( actually left traumatized with alcohol after his father , though he will have a drink every once in a while ). basically just coming of age things. maybe things are kind of okay now ( as okay as it could be for the gatti’s, at least ), but of course, do things ever really stay okay forever when it comes to this family? not quite
! tws for brief mentions of inappropriate underage relationships ( student/teacher ), grooming implication, bullying and slut shaming for the next three bullets, please skip over this if such things trigger you or proceed with caution ! finally , his senior year of high school. emilio feels like he’s changed so much. came out of the closet, gained a lot more confidence, really, really found himself. the last thing emilio is expecting is to have a thing with his history teacher of all people. a man who is married to a woman but claims to be ‘straight just curious’. the teacher is thirty seven and emilio is almost eighteen, which makes it super obvious the teacher is just using him for his own pleasure, and emilio? he lets himself get used, honest to god knowing it was super wrong, and knowing he was being taken advantage of and groomed, but he couldn’t see farther ahead
call it daddy issues? his unspoken traumas? the fact that he’s kind of a hoe? but emilio doesn’t care enough to stop until things start to actually get scandalous, despite not even feeling attracted to the guy  –  he just liked the attention
to this day, emilio has no idea how the news came to light. one day, he just walks into school and he can see and hear people whispering about him, pointing at him, clearly gossiping about him. he gets to his locker and the first thing he notices is the word ‘slut’ written in red spray paint. as if that isn’t bad enough, the second he opens the thing, at least a hundred condoms fall to the ground, along with another hundred pictures of said history teacher. needles to say, it becomes a huge scandal. the teacher gets fired and arrested and emilio is asked if he wants to press charges and, unfortunately for him, even though he refuses to press any type of charges, he still has to give a statement of everything that happened between them ( just imagine how uncomfortable this is for him ). emilio is slut shammed and bullied so bad, he’s forced to finish the rest of his senior year at night school ( yikes ) ! ends of tws !
after high school, his life has been kind of ‘normal’ you could say. he took a gap year then got his aa at 22, and is currently going to school for psychology as he really wants to be a psychologist to genuinely help people like his mother. he’s taking care of her and his sister moved to back to italy, and, despite having a decent amount of savings to get his own place, emilio doesn’t have it in him to leave his mother, kind of afraid that she might do something crazy. he takes care of her
he works at newleaf and goes to school as well, trying to get his shit together after what a shit show most of his school years have been
he’s actually a very ambitious person. like, very, very ambitious. when he wants something, he sets his mind to it and gets it, whether it be a guy, an expensive shirt he saw and really liked, whatever the case is, what he wants, he gets. very, very determined guy, definitely, for sure getting the fuck out of inwood eventually if you know what i mean
he can be very surprising, as he shows one face to everyone but has a completely different one when he’s around people he trusts. you never really know what to expect with him
he plays piano! a habit him and his sister picked up from their grandfather when they were younger. he’s actually very, very good, but very few people, if not no one, knows he has this hobby. very big hidden talent, but he likes it that way, as he plays because he wants to feel moved in someway, not because he wants everyone to know he plays
he loves attention and validation, maybe because he never received any growing up. literally tell him he’s pretty and buy him so gelato
huge flirt. sometimes he won’t even notice he’s flirting, it’ll just come naturally and he’ll be like woops vjkdnvjdfn
kind of a stubborn brat. it’s his way or the highway
he has the tiniest, most unnoticeable scar his on his upper left cheek that his father gave to him on that day that shall not be named. tells people his dog did that to him despite the fact that he’s never even had a pet fish before, let alone a dog
he’s low key insecure about his teeth but you’d never guess it . his top two front teeth are bunny like so it’s always been a secret insecurity of his
he has a cigarette habit? it’s gotten a lot less intense since high school , but it’s still there. just call him a typical italian kjndfvcfjfd
i’m gonna end this here because it’s already pretty long, but below is his birthchart, please hmu for plots!

Fischio Finale Italia 1 - 0 Georgia
Ooh boy, where do I start with this one? It was, how do you say in English, very disappointing. First off, the starting line-up was a portent of just how bad things were going to get. Despite Annamaria Serturini having had what was a really fantastic game against Israel, Milena Bertolini chooses to leave her on the bench... for Daniela Sabatino. Sabatino had a limp and lackluster first half (and to be fair, nearly everyone in the Azzurre did), but at least she was substituted in the second half for the person we all felt should have started: Annamaria Serturini. Sadly, Serturini alone couldn't save the game, as she would prove to be the only effective and logical substitution of this game. Another oddball curiosity: despite having Rosucci and Galli warm-up, Bertolini chose to effectively sideline them and persist with the majority of her starting line-up, that is, until the 88th minute of the game, when she finally decides to substitute Rosucci in. (And honestly, did you expect someone like Rosucci to do anything in the span of 4 minutes, despite the immense talent she has?)
(And sidenote: She was substituted in for of all players, Alia Guagni, who actually didn’t have a bad game, at least compared to the rest. Still, it was an odd choice to take off one of Italy’s best defenders - especially since some of the others played so badly. But then again, Guagni seems to be frustrated and somewhat neutered in Bertolini’s current system, evident by the argument she got into with her the last game.)
And despite having the firepower of Agnese Bonfantini and Serie B capocannoniere Gloria Marinelli on the bench, Bertolini chose to sub in ... Stefania Tarenzi. Stefania did about as well as one would have expected her to play (which truth be told, wasn’t very well.) The game was effectively characterized by bad decision making. Bad touches, bad passing in the final third (because apparently, no one knows how to pass inside the box), bad shots taken by the players, and most of all, bad tactical decisions by the coach. The game can best be summed up by the Tale of Two Valentinas: Valentina Cernoia insisting on taking her shots from outside the box and missing the target by several miles (or meters, for those of you who don't use the Imperial System), and Valentina Bergamaschi, who, once again, fluffed her lines in front of goal when she had an easy shot on target and was practically handed a chance to score. So, in conclusion: This game was sadly, very, very disappointing, and we could have, and should have, done more. And no more excuses about humidity and bad weather; good players are physically fit, and play well no matter what. I would say it's too early to proclaim doom and gloom in Italy's qualifying campaign, as, if you're a fan of Italian football, then you know that this is how the the Italian national team plays. They always underwhelm in qualifiers and friendlies, and then do just enough to scrape by (and somehow top the group) and in the end, somehow manage to get it together by tournament time to produce a few shocking results. It’s true for the men, and it will be for the women as well. And if you're a newly converted Italy fan who fell in love with these women during their Spectacular World Cup, I will conclude this post by saying only one thing to you: Welcome to Calcio Italiano. Now enjoy your stay. (And the immense amount of suffering too.)

Illuminations from Pier Paolo Pasolini | Autonomies
The magazine Ballast regularly gathers together citations of authors under the generic designation of an abécédaire. We share below, in translation, their most recent “alphabet text”, from the work of Pier Paolo Pasolini.
His assassination in 1975 made the poet a myth; let us pass over this. What did Pasolini the man desire? “Throw your body into the fight,” he said a decade earlier. He who thought that “only communism was able to provide a new true culture”, capable of interpreting “the of whole existence”, bequeaths us a most dense literary, poetic and cinematographic work. Pasolini, a good client of the courts (for “obscenity” or “outrage to religion”), thus stepped forward as a fierce and melancholy critic of mercantile, productivist and capitalist modernity. Looking back, in twenty-six letters, on the thought of the Italian artist.
Abattre [to strike down]: “I have the nostalgia for the poor and true people who fight to bring down this boss, without becoming that boss. (Interview with Furio Colombo, La Stampa, November 8, 1975)
Bourgeoisie: “I harbor a visceral, deep, irreducible, hatred against the bourgeoisie, against its sufficiency, its vulgarity; a mythical hatred, or, if you prefer, religious.” (Interviews with Pier Paolo Pasolini, with Jean Duflot, Pierre Belfond Publishing, 1970)
Consolation: “When I was a child, the bourgeoisie, at the most delicate moment of my existence, excluded me: it put me on the list of reprobates,of other people [allusion to his homosexuality, ed]: and I can not forget it anymore. It left me with a feeling of offense, precisely, the perception of an evil: the same that a black man must have when he walks on Fifth Avenue. It is not a pure coincidence that, driven out of the center of the cities, I found consolation in their suburbs.”(Heretical Empiricism, Garzanti, 1972)
Division: “For: as long as man exploits man, as long as mankind is divided into masters and slaves, there will be neither normality nor peace. This is the reason for all the evil of our time. […] From this division comes tragedy and death. (The Rage, Nous, 2014)
Église [The Church]: “The Church can only be reactionary; the Church can only be on the side of power; the Church can only accept the authoritarian and formal rules of society; the Church can only accept hierarchical societies in which the ruling class guarantees order; the Church can only hate every form of thought that is even only timidly free; the Church can only be opposed to any anti-repressive innovation […]; the Church can only act completely outside the teachings of the Gospel; the Church can only make practical decisions by formally referring to the name of God, and sometimes even forgetting to do so; the Church can only impose hope verbally, because her own experience of human actions forbids her to nourish every kind of hope; the Church can only (to refer to current issues) consider as eternally valid and paradigmatic its concordat with fascism.” (Écrits corsaires, Flammarion, 1976/2009)
Fin [End]: “I love life fiercely, desperately. And I believe that this ferocity, this despair, will bring me to my end. I love the sun, the grass, youth. The love of life has become a vice in me more tenacious than cocaine. I devour my existence with an insatiable appetite. How will all of this end? I do not know. (“Tete-a-tete with Pier Paolo Pasolini”, Louis Valentin, Lui, April 1970)
Gigolos: “Upon my comrades of the underworld / upon my comrade gigolos / upon my unemployed comrades / upon my comrades of maneuvers / I write your name / freedom!” (The Rage, Nous, 2014)
Tumblr media
Harlem: “In the United States, during my very brief stay, I lived for several hours in the clandestine climate of struggle, of revolutionary urgency, of hope that was that of Europe in 1944 and 1945. […] I followed a young black trade unionist who led me to the section of his movement, a small movement that only counts in Harlem a few hundred members – and who fights black unemployment; I followed him to one of his comrades, a mason who had had an accident at work and who welcomed us lying on his poor bed, with the smile of friend, accomplice and full of the love our resisters had and that we have forgotten. “(Heretical Empiricism, Garzanti, 1972)
Independence of Algeria: “Ah, France, / hatred! / Ah France, / the plague! / Ah, France, / cowardice! / The hatred, the plague, the cowardice / of the one who wants, who is master, who owns! […] People of color, / Algeria returns to its history! (The Rage, Nous, 2014)
Jeunesse [Youth]: “[…] At that time, young people, hardly freed from their uniforms and setting out on the road towards their country and their fields, that they became again the Italians of fifty or a hundred years ago, as before fascism. Fascism had in reality made them puppets, servants, perhaps partly convinced, but it had not really reached them in the depths of their souls, in their way of being. On the other hand, the new fascism, the consumer society, profoundly transformed young people; she touched them in their intimacy, she gave them other feelings, other ways of thinking, of living, other cultural models. It is no longer, as in Mussolini’s period, a superficial regimentation, scenography, but a real regimentation, that stole and changed their soul. Which means, ultimately, that this “consumer civilization” is a dictatorial civilization.”(Article published in L’Europeo, December 26, 1974)
Kibbutz: “These were gods, or the sons of gods,/ who mysteriously fired, /with a hatred that would have caused them to melt chalk mountains, like blood-thirsty husbands, on the invading Kibbutz, / on the other side of Jerusalem … / These beggars, who go away to sleep now, / without shelter, at the end of some suburban meadow. / With their older brothers, soldiers / armed with an old rifle and a pair of mustaches / mercenaries resigned to death forever. / These are the Jordanians, terror of Israel, / those who, in front of me, cry / the ancient pain of the proscribed.” (“The southern dawn”, Poesies, 1953-1964, Gallimard, 1980)
Lucioles [Fireflies]: “At the beginning of the sixties, because of the air pollution and, especially, in the countryside, because of the water pollution (blue rivers and limpid channels), the fireflies began to disappear. It was a violent and rapid phenomenon. After a few years, there were no more fireflies. (“The emptiness of power in Italy”, Corriere della Sera, February 1, 1975)
Monde [World]: “A new problem explodes in the world. Its name is Color. / It’s called Color, the new enlargement of the world. We must integrate the idea of thousands of black or brown children, children with with black eyes and curly hair. / […] Other voices, other looks, other loves, other dances: / everything will have to become familiar and enlarge the earth!” (The Rage, Nous, 2014)
Tumblr media
No: “Refusal has always been essential. Saints, hermits, but also intellectuals. The small number of men who made History are those who said no, and not the courtiers and valets of the cardinals. To be effective, the refusal must be great, and not small, total, and not focus on one point or another, an absurd and contrary to common sense point. Eichmann, my dear, had a lot of good sense. What was he lacking? The ability to say no loudly, to the hierarchy, from the beginning, while performing a purely and ordinary administrative, bureaucratic task. Perhaps he told his friends that he did not fancy this Himmler very much. He murmured, as one murmurs in publishing houses, newspapers, in the homes of lower level political leaders and on television. Or he will have protested because this or that train stopped once a day to let the deportees fulfill their needs and take in a little bread and water, while it would have been more functional or economical to plan for two stops . He never stopped the machine.” (Interview with Furio Colombo, La Stampa, November 8, 1975)
Official: “However, I want to say that if I am a Marxist, this Marxism has always been extremely critical of official Communists, especially with regard to the PCI; I have always been a minority outside the Party since my first book of poetry, The Ashes of Gramsci.”(Interviews with Pier Paolo Pasolini, with Jean Duflot, Pierre Belfond Publishing, 1970)
Poetry: “In football, there are exclusively poetic moments: these are the moments when the action leads to the goal. Each goal is always an invention, it is always a disturbance of the code: it always has something of the inevitable, the dazzling, the stupefying, the irreversible. This is precisely what happens with the poetic word as well. The top scorer of a championship is always the best poet of the year.” (“Il calcio “è” in linguaggio coni suoi poeti e prosatori”, Il Giorno, 3 January 1971)
Quand [When]: “When there is nothing left of the classical world, when all of the peasants and craftsmen are dead, when industry has made the cycle of production and consumption turn relentlessly, then our story will be over.” (La Rabbia, 1963)
Reason: “I am not Catholic ideologically and I am not a believer, so I do not see why my rationalization of the irrational must be Catholic, my rationalization is Marxist.” (Cited by René de Ceccatty, Pasolini, Gallimard, 2005)
Société de consommation [Consumer Society]: “The fever of consumption is a fever of obedience to an unspoken order. Everyone, in Italy, feels the degrading anxiety of being like the others in the act of consummation, of being happy, of being free, because that is the order that each one has unconsciously received and to which he “must” obey if he feels different. Never has difference been such a frightful fault, as in this period of tolerance. Equality has not, in fact, been conquered, but is, on the contrary, a “false” equality received as a gift.” (Écrits corsaires, Flammarion, 1976/2009)
Television: “[…] The responsibility of television is enormous, not, of course, as a technical medium, but as an instrument of power and as power itself. Because it is not only a space through which messages circulate, but is also a message-processing center. It constitutes the space where a mentality is realised which, without it, would not know where to house itself. It is through the spirit of television that the spirit of the new power concretely manifests itself. There is no doubt (the results prove it) that television is authoritarian and repressive, as no other means of information in the world has ever been.” (“Challenge to Television Leaders”, Corriere della Sera, December 9, 1973)
Urban: “Without ceasing to live in Rome, I can say that I lived outside the city. Gradually, this attachment became ideology and I came to travel frequently and to love the countries of the Third World, an irreducible earthly love.” (Interviews with Pier Paolo Pasolini, with Jean Duflot, Pierre Belfond Publishing, 1970)
Vampire: “The bourgeois – let’s say it with wit – is a vampire, who is not at peace until he has bitten the neck of his victim for pure, natural and familiar pleasure, to see her become pale, sad, ugly, lifeless, twisted, corrupt, worried, guilty, calculating, aggressive, terrorizing, like him. […] The time has come to recognize that it is not enough to consider the bourgeoisie as a social class, but as a disease; henceforth, to regard it as a social class is even ideologically and politically an error (and that even through the purest and most intelligent instruments of Marxism-Leninism). In fact, the history of the bourgeoisie – by means of a technological civilization, which neither Marx nor Lenin could have foreseen – is about to concretely coincide with the totality of world history.” (“Against Terror”, Tempo, August 6, 1969)
Wagner: “Who gave us – both young and old – the official language of protest? Marxism, poetry and the memory of the Resistance, which revives the thoughts of Vietnam and Bolivia. Why do I regret the official language of protest that the working class, through its bourgeois ideology, has given me? Because it is a language that never forgets the idea of power and is therefore always practical and reasonable. But are not pragmatism and reason the same gods who have made our bourgeois fathers mad and idiots? Poor Wagner and Nietzsche!” (Letter to Allen Ginsberg, October 1967)
XXe siècle [20th century]: “from a horizon of our century, / the entire neighbourhood … It’s the city, / buried in a festive glow, / – it’s the world. What cries, is what / ends, and starts again. What was / field of grass, open space, and which becomes / a courtyard, white as wax.”(“The crying of the excavator “, Poésies, 1953-1964, Gallimard, 1980)
Yeux [Eyes]: “Do not delude yourself. And you, with your schools, with your television, with your quiet newspapers, you are the great conservatives of a horrible order based on possession and destruction. Be happy, you who are happy only when you can stick a label on a crime. To my eyes, this is but one of the many operations of mass culture: being unable to prevent certain events, we find peace by manufacturing custom made drawers, that once filled, are closed immediately.” (Contre la télévision, Les Solitaires intempestifs, 2003)
Zealots: “I have always been astonished and even, to tell the truth, deeply indignant at the clerical interpretation of Christ’s phrase: Give unto Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what belongs to God: an interpretation in which is concentrated all of the hypocrisy and the aberration that characterised the Church of the Counter-Reformation. It passed off – however monstrous it may seem – as moderate, cynical, and realistic a statement by Christ which was clearly radical, extremist, and perfectly religious. In fact, Christ could in no way mean to say: please everyone, do not worry about politics, reconcile the advantages of social life with the absolute character of religious life, care for the goat and the cabbage, etc. . […] By posing this extremist dichotomy, Christ pushes and invites an eternal opposition to Caesar, even if it must be non-violent (unlike that of the zealots).” (“Nouvelles perspectives historiques : l’Église est inutile au Pouvoir”, October 6, 1974)

24 years, in words, twenty-four years as a professional for the Rossoneri. And at world class level! Seven Scudettos, five Champions League titles, 126 international matches, vice world champion in 1994 and if you count the cup competitions: over 900 games for Milan. Of course, Maldini was knighted... the list of achievements of this unique athlete is endless. Maldini is AC Milan and AC Milan is Maldini. That's a short way to put it. You could admire the Italian's play in central defense or left-back. We don't want to reveal at this point whether someone can top Paolo Maldini's statistics relevant to Millennium Football. Enel power plant in Venice
8 July 2021
Design: Frigerio Design Group
Location: Venice, northern Italy
Resilience Lab Grid – Enel power plant Venice
Frigerio Design Group wins the competition for designing the ecological transition of Enel power plant in Venice.
It’s part of Enel’s project to convert their coal power plants in Italy, the contest “The new energy spaces” to design the power stations of the future. Frigerio Design Group’s project has been selected for the new plant in the lagoon of Venice: an architecture that integrates research, training, information and recycling, to stimulate environmentally sustainable development and regeneration.
Fusina (Venice, Italy) | Convert all coal-fired power plants located in Italy into environmentally sustainable facilities: this is the goal set by Enel – Italian multinational manufacturer and distributor of electricity and gas – by 2025. On conclusion of the competition “New Energy Spaces”, set up by the company last July, the winning project was announced for the transformation of the Andrea Palladio power plant in Fusina (Venice). The project by Frigerio Design Group, “Resilience Lab Grid”, was selected by a committee made up of representatives from Enel, the University of Venice IUAV, and the City and County of Venice, according to criteria based on environmental and social sustainability, technological innovation, design and visual impact.
Two major factors in the competition were the new buildings, with areas open to the public to foster social and cultural development in the territory, and the legacy constructions that needed development to enhance the aesthetic and symbolic value of the plant, thereby modernizing and redeveloping the industrial zone.
The concept presented by Frigerio Design Group will now move on to the development phase. The architectural study of the Resilience Lab Grid proposes a paradigm shift in the collective perception by transforming the plant into a positive example for ecosystem regeneration and protection. Inspired by the “fractal”, a natural geometric element, Frigerio Design Group created a shared space, open to the public and the community, where activities focusing on sustainability and environmental intervention are promoted to stimulate regeneration and environmentally sustainable, besides social and cultural development for the area. At the same time, the architectural elements are integrated into the territory: the complex is designed to appear visibly dynamic and light in relation to the surrounding landscape.
“New Energy Spaces was designed to regenerate the environment and enhance corporate image and identity, while at the same time becoming more involved in the local community. Putting together people and nature, environment and industry, technology and innovation, the expression of a new entrepreneurial culture. Sharing values to generate value!” states lead architect, Enrico Frigerio. “For too long we have used only: in this day and age it is clear that simply using things and scarce resources will have a major impact on our future. What better chance to rethink our outlook than in places considered the archetype of consumption, here studied to approach new options, to give essence to a collective plan to rethink our future?”
“This competition is a tangible example of our vision for the future of energy, which needs to be planned out and realized in an open and shared manner,” explains Carlo Tamburi, President and CEO of Enel Italia, adding “with this project, the Fusina energy hub, which will expand its technology to facilitate energy transition, will become an area open to the local community, a space able to be in harmony with the landscape and be perfectly integrated into the surrounding environment.”
“While Venice celebrates its 1,600 years since its foundation, it is still looking toward its future,” comments Luigi Brugnato, Mayor of Venice, and points out “converting the Fusina plant from coal to an energy hub confirms that we are a cutting-edge territory in the challenge of energy transition and that Venice can attract investment and new jobs by focusing on sustainable technologies.”
The Frigerio Design Group Project: Resilience Lab Grid
The intervention envisaged by Frigerio Design Group is inspired by the “fractal”, a natural geometric element, whose form does not vary when changing the scale of length. Based on a feasible and modular system, the new buildings will be of different sizes according to their function; however, they will share the same features. The core generator and control room of the entire system is the Enel Pavilion, a place for reception, information and promotion for corporate values: environmental sustainability, circular economy and innovation.
The architecture is located in an environment where the lagoon borders the countryside, between water and land, and the project is inspired by the natural matrix of the area. “Patterns” of fields and cultivated lands are reinterpreted abstractly into geometrical elements enveloping buildings and plants. An additional element to blend with the lagoon is vegetation. It is inserted into the project as a junction between the industrial complex and the natural environment. Reviving the lagoon landscape with its evocative sandbars becomes an opportunity to illustrate the territory and include it in an educational context.

Coronavirus as deadly for Italian football as two World Wars - Times of India
Tumblr media
ROME: Only the gunfire of two World Wars had previously stopped “calcio” in football-mad Italy.
But from Tuesday all sporting events in the Mediterranean country, including the top-flight Serie A league, will be suspended for a month because of the coronavirus crisis.
Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte made the dramatic announcement as the nation grapples with a disease which has killed 463 people and prompted the government to restrict movement for its 60 million citizens.
The suspension until April 3 amounts to the postponement of two championship days, in a league which has already been hit by delays, with four previous games yet to be played.
The Italian Football Federation meets on Tuesday, and the Lega Serie A later in the week to try and develop a recovery plan.
A plan which could only be effective if the championship resumes in April, which will depend on the evolution of the epidemic.
“I’m not an optimist, unfortunately,” said AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni, whose club donated 250,000 euros ($294,000) on Monday for the care of patients in their Lombardy region, hardest hit by the contagion.
“So many of us are involved in football that there is a real risk of contagion. Even if it is true that nobody is as monitored as the players.”
Club CEO Ivan Gazidis added: “There are things in life more important than football. We must all act with the utmost responsibility and listen to the advice of the relevant authorities.”
Since 1898, only the dark days of two World Wars had stopped Serie A — between 1916 and 1919 and from 1943 to 1945.
And in 1915 it was interrupted following Italy’s entry into the First World War, with Genoa awarded the title which Lazio still claim was tied.
In 1973 a cholera epidemic which left 227 dead in Italy, including more than 170 in Naples, did not halt play.
Even if competition resumes in early April, time is running out with the end of the season scheduled for May 24.
There is little room for manoeuvre because of Euro 2020 beginning on June 12.
And there are also concerns that the European tournament, due to be hosted across 12 countries with Italy hosting the opening match, might face an unprecedented cancellation.
The Italian press have speculated of a possible reduction of the time allocated to teams to prepare before Euro 2020.
As for the Italian Cup, interrupted after the first leg of the semi-finals, it is almost impossible for it to be completed before the summer.
In the meantime, training continues, along with UEFA‘s Champions League and Europa League matches behind closed doors.
The government decree allows for the possibility of organising matches under international jurisdiction in empty stadiums, such as ties in UEFA’s Champions League and Europa League.
Juventus are due to host Lyon in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie in Turin next week. Inter Milan are due to host Spain’s Getafe in the Europa League on Thursday while Roma welcome Sevilla a week later.
There is a kind of legal vacuum. Neither the statutes of the federation nor those of the League provide for the case of an interrupted championship, and precedents are extremely rare.
There is also the problem of who qualifies for next season’s European competitions, and which teams are relegated.
According to the Italian sports press, the hypothesis of validating a final classification on the last full day of play, the 24th round of 38 games, does not suit many clubs.
In that case Juventus would be crowned champions of Italy for a ninth consecutive season.

Arsenal eyeing Serie A starlet who is everything Emery wants Ozil to be – opinion
According to Italian publication Calcio Mercato, north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham have been “alerted” to the presence of Lorenzo Pellegrini’s agent in London, and the midfielder would be keen for a move away from the Stadio Olimpico this summer.
What’s the word?
The report claims that whilst Pellegrini would like to play Champions League football next season, the Italy international would still welcome a move to Arsenal.
It adds that Roma’s Serie A rivals Inter also remain interested in the midfielder, and that his £31.1m release clause can be paid in two separate installments.
With the Gunners’ limited transfer budget well-known, a move for Pellegrini seems to make both footballing and financial sense for Unai Emery’s side.
From 6-0 FA Cup final maulings to Mkhitaryan missing the the Europa League final, is football broken? Fans discuss in the video below…
The perfect Ozil replacement for Emery
It’s no secret that the two contrasting styles of both Mesut Ozil and Emery have clashed at times this season. The Gunners manager went so far as to suggest that his decision to drop the languid German at Bournemouth in November was due to him not being ready for the “physicality and intensity” of the game.
The club’s highest-paid player on the bench because the manager basically doesn’t trust him to work hard enough, a truly bizarre predicament.
Ozil’s talents are undoubted, but with Emery at the helm, there appears no way for him to fully become a part of the manager’s plans.
Pellegrini on the other hand, might just be the answer the Arsenal manager has been craving. A majestic number ten capable of pulling the strings in the middle of the park and dictating the tempo; but someone who is prepared to hustle and harry the opposition, work hard for the team, and do the proverbial dirty work.
The 22-year-old averaged an impressive 1.6 tackles per game in Serie A from an advanced midfield position, and managed to make a further 0.5 interceptions and 0.8 clearances too.
Ozil? The German mustered a measly 0.5 tackles per game in the Premier League and virtually non-existent numbers for interceptions and clearances at 0.2 and 0.1 respectively.
Pellegrini has shown a hunger and desire that Emery will immediately take to. After coming under fire for his displays earlier in his Roma career, the Italian turned things around and became a valued part of the Giallorossi.
Indeed, after the side’s 5-0 thrashing of Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League in October, former boss Eusebio di Francesco said of the midfielder’s performance: “Sometimes he’s been on the receiving end of unfair criticism but he’s shown the character to dive into this position really well. He can cause damage in that position, he looks to play it forward and he understands the role superbly. I’m really happy, the lad deserves it.”
The key word? Character. Whilst Ozil has shown virtually none of it, Pellegrini has shown it in spades. And that just makes him the ideal man for Emery to build his new era around at the Emirates.

Thomas Helveg is scheduled to defend the right-back of this squad. The Dane joined Milan from Udinese Calcio together with his teammate Oliver Bierhoff. His time at AC was very successful. He quickly established himself as a regular player and became both: Italian champion and Champions League winner. We warmly welcome the Danish Footballer of the Year from 1994 to our team.
