MrMonster’s Martial Arts Journey: Sanda

Country of Origin: China

History: Sanda (sometimes referred to as Wushu, Wushu Sanda, Sanda Kung Fu, Sanshou, or even simply Chinese Kickboxing) has roots in Chinese Lei tai fights, a brutal, 1000+ year old Chinese tradition of bare knuckle fights that often proved lethal.

When the Republic of China (1912-1949) wanted to develop a hand to hand combat system for their military in the 1920’s, they turned to lei tai to have a basis. However, there is one major problem inherent to any lethal martial art; it’s lethal. Studies show soldiers are significantly less useful if they die in basic training. So, they had to make it something safe enough to train, as well as add elements from imported martial arts like Western boxing and wrestling. Following the Chinese Communist Revolution, it not only became the PLA’s main system of martial arts training, but it has expanded beyond military use into becoming a sport with tournaments all over the world. While Communist regimes may not be good for much, as we’ve learned both here and in our previous entry (Sambo), they’ve undoubtedly given the world some unique and powerful martial arts.

Age: 20

Body: 5′10″, Athletic, Thighs To Crush Skulls.

 Fenn is a tall, athletic human girl with a friendly, if scarred face. Her long brown hair is usually tied or braided back, her skin covered in a smattering of winding green vine tattoos. Her right eye is a bright, clear brown while the left is a prosthetic. A closer look would show it is beautifully made of opal.

Her armor is usually simple, if very well-tended. Outside of her armor she dresses plainly as well. Her one bit of ornamentation is a clip in her hair, a real laquered preserved butterfly from Mt. Hyjal. Since hitting the Shadowlands, she rocks two hefty, beautiful mauls from Ardenweald.

Personality: 

Fenn is a friendly, if generally introverted girl. She is prone to thinking the best of everyone she meets until proven otherwise...and has learned most people prove themselves pretty quickly.

- Grew up outside Goldshire, anyone around her age may remember "that kid who comes to school from somewhere in the woods". Schoolyard rumor was she lived in a cave.

- She did, in fact, live in a cave.

- Small time brawler as a teenager, everyone in town likely thought she'd join the Stormwind Army when she was 18. Instead, she took the boat to Kalimdor.

- Breathtakingly oblivious bi himbo. I said what I said.

Family:

Dad: Shambles Darrowmere, Gnome Hunter Druid, so he thinks.

Mom(s): Olune, Tatianna, & Larilla, Dryads. The reason Shambles thinks he’s a druid.

Sister: Billie Darrowmere, 25, Gnome Hunter. Knows their dad is not actually a Druid.

Birth Parents: Unknown, was adopted from the SW orphanage. All she or Shambles know is that she was brought there from Westfall.
