Dair Appreciation Week
➤ April 15th DAY FIVE: Favorite angsty moment(s)
[ + bonus theme, 4x15 “It-Girl Happened One Night” appreciation ]
I thought this description of this moment was so good so I decided to quote it and share it here. Also I highly recommend watching the rest of the videos in this series and reading the captions because they're very well-written.
youtube
“8. "It-Girl Happened One Night" 4.15 - I think the entire scene really sets up the moment and shows that Dan and Blair don't just act on whims. Blair is hurt by how easily Chuck gives his heart to another girl. Dan can see that, he knows how it feels. He straightens his tie, hesitates, and then slowly goes in for the hand hold. Blair is not ready yet, but it looks like she seriously second guessed letting go.” - OnlineGrapefruit

Jess/Rory and Oz/Willow parallels
I noticed some similarities when I was getting through Gilmore for the first time four years ago but noticed more when I was re-watching Buffy late last year/earlier this year

ENFP Fictional Tropes
Most ENFP characters fall under at least one trope. There are many cross overs in tropes and some ENFPs may not fit the categories presented. However, these tropes do loosely address the roles ENFP characters play in narratives.
The Idealist
These ENFPs see the very best in everyone they meet. They are often the person who will forgive and help the most villainous of characters. They often bring out the best in others by just being themselves. They don’t even need to actively help others, but inspire others with their dreams and ideals. Their enthusiasm brought on by their Ne is often enough. Combined with their Fi caring towards individuals makes the caring on top of it. The idealist ENFPs are usually the most optimistic characters you will find.
Tumblr media
Examples: Kenneth Parnell (30 Rock), Antoine Triplett (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Mad Hatter (Disney’s Alice in Wonderland), Tara Maclay (Buffy: The Vampire Slayer), Eleventh Doctor (Doctor Who), Buddy the Elf (Elf), Nemo (Finding Nemo), Barry Allen (The Flash), Olaf (Frozen), Kiki (Kiki’s Delivery Service), Ariel (The Little Mermaid), Moana (Moana), Naruto Uzumaki (Naruto Shippuden), Henry Mills (Once Upon a Time), Capheus (Sense8), Joyce Byers (Stranger Things), Rapunzel (Tangled), Jessie (Toy Story), Kimmy Schmidt (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Ottoki Otoya (Uta No Prince Sama), and Tara Chambler (The Walking Dead).
The Activist
The Activist ENFP is often first struck with Ne curiosity in the world and the ideas within it and then as they shape their Fi they rally behind a certain cause. The ENFP Activist is passionate about their cause. They may break the rules of society and systems, but they will never turn against their individual cause. Just like the Idealist, the ENFP activist often inspires others, however, they inspire those to follow them. ENFP activists can be very persuasive, living their life in line with their beliefs.
Tumblr media
Examples: Hayley Smith (American Dad), Aang (Avatar: The Last Airbender), Karen Page (Netflix’s Daredevil), Marshall Eriksen (How I met Your Mother), Cindy Lou Who (Ron Howard’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas), Helen Parr (The Incredibles), Ray Palmer/Atom (DCTVU), Erik Lensherr/Magneto (Marvel Comics and X-MenCU), Mike Wheeler (Stranger Things), Sir Thomas More (The Tudors), Sam Seaborn (The West Wing), and Judy Hopps (Zootopia).
The Salesman
This ENFP character can convince you of anything and sell you on their vision. Whether they are healthy or not, their Ne makes them idea people that inspire, their Fi helps them appeal to people and their individual sense of self. They make you think that they can help make all your dreams come true. Healthy or unhealthy, their Te can help them make you think their idea is your priority, like they have your interests at heart (combined with Fi). This can help them actually help you or help them completely swindle you. No matter what they will make you for at least a moment feel special as they take you on a romantic journey of your dreams.
Tumblr media
Examples: Katherine Pierce (The Vampire Diaries), Genie (Aladdin), Walt Disney (Saving Mr. Banks), Randy Marsh (South Park), Tom Haverford (Parks & Recreation), Erlich (Silicon Valley), Taco (The League), Tiffany Doggett (Orange is the New Black), Michael Scott (NBC’s The Office), Christian (Moulin Rouge!), John Hammond (Jurassic Park), Thomas Jefferson (Hamilton: An American Musical), Bumi (Avatar: The Legend of Korra), Gob Bluth (Arrested Development), and Malcolm Merlyn (Arrow).
The Prince
This is the darker side of the ENFP. They are probably the most self-involved trope. They believe their their wants are the needs of others. They demand others to serve their personal priorities. They often don’t see their work as selfish, but part of a greater cause or purpose. However, they are usually looping ENFPs. Many Prince ENFPs find themselves in leadership positions because they are over using their tertiary Te that they think is morally just because of their minimal use of their secondary Fi function. They use Te objectivity as a shield against their own subjective motives of Fi-Si. These types often have potential to be more positive tropes, but have faltered in their quest to satisfy their inferior function fears and desires.
Tumblr media
Examples: Ice King (Adventure Time), Malcolm Merlyn (Arrow), Cheryl Tunt (Archer), The Master (Doctor Who-10th Doctor Era), King Richard, Jaime Lannister (Game of Thrones), Ronald Weasley (Harry Potter Series), Sean McGinnes (Hell on Wheels), Willis ‘Diamondback’ Stryker (Luke Cage), Julia (Syfy’s The Magicians), Erik Lensherr/Magneto (Marvel Comics/X-Men Cinematic Universe), Obito Uchiha (Naruto Shippuden), Peter Pan (Once Upon a Time), Marshal D. Teach “Blackbeard” (One Piece), Klaus Mikaelson (The Vampire Diaries/The Originals), and Catherine Earnshaw (Wuthering Heights).
The Champion Leader
ENFP leaders become so in their hope to help others. They are concerned with the forgotten because of their Introverted Feeling. They are a champion of a cause like the activist, but find themselves leading others in order to accomplish their goals. Their leadership style isn’t one of intense organization, but of individuality and independence. They are often because of Ne-Fi on the ground doing tasks with their followers in order to accomplish group goals. They have a hard time delegating, standing back and letting only others enjoy the fun of the action. This is due to their Ne being more present oriented and Fi being a function that can’t be used conceptually, but perceptually. The ENFP leader is far more comfortable helping others in the situation rather than apart from it.
Tumblr media
Examples: Clark Kent/Superman (DC), Renly Baratheon (Game of Thrones), Chris (Bravest Warriors), Peter Quill (Guardians of the Galaxy), King Arthur (Mists of Avalon), Moana (Moana), Hashirama Senju (Naruto Shippuden), Peter Pan (Disney’s Peter Pan), Monkey D. Luffy (One Piece), Dr. Alexander Sweet (Penny Dreadful), Erik Lensherr/Magneto (Marvel/X-Men Cinematic Universe), and Captain Kirk (Star Trek).
The Goof
This is the most under-estimated ENFP character. They come off is aloof, odd, and carefree on the surface. But this is often a misread. The ENFP goof is often wandering the unbeaten Ne dominance path, seeing things differently in ways that other types can’t accept or don’t understand. Their sense of genius is mistaken for oddity. They usually surprise others with their intelligence and success, because it is never how others would go about completing a given task or goal. Their genius word play is often seen as simply humorous rather than an indicator of a deeper intelligence.
Tumblr media
Examples: Mabel Pines (Gravity Falls), Second Doctor & Eleventh Doctor (Doctor Who), Troy Barnes (Community), Fez (That ‘70s Show), Gregory (Over the Garden Wall), Spongebob Squarepants (Spondgebob Squarepants), Bing Bong (Inside Out), Hugo ‘Hurley’ Reyes (LOST), Bert (Morry Poppins), Mei (My Neighbor Totoro), Winston Bishop (New Girl), Erin Hannon (NBC’s The Office), Russell (Up), Lorelai Gilmore (Gilmore Girls), Madam Mim (The Sword in the Stone), Gene Belcher (Bob’s Burgers), Scooby-Doo (Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?), Peter Quill (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Bolin (Avatar: The Legend of Korra).

Current WIP projects that, because I have ADD and can’t prioritize for shit, will most likely never be finished:
A TV show about people that mostly went to the same high school at the same time and are now (through a series of random events) teaching at that same high school years later. It’s based on the teachers in my life/teachers I know and the fact that a lot of teachers seem to have never left high school in the first place. Uses two sets of characters in a This Is Us sort of half-flashback and half-current times way so that you can see that the trope-y characters (cheerleader, jock, nerd, art kid, rich boy) all turn into fully fleshed people. Meant to show that high school doesn’t last forever and that when people are assholes in high school, there’s usually something more going on (because they are teenagers and it’s hard to express intensely real feelings in a constructive way).
An original book about witches in which I have to create an entire system of magic. Because of a curse that goes back to the Putnam family in the Salem witch trials, boys can’t pass on their magic (trans girls can! Would be explained as “that one time uncle Thomas’s kids had magic and we were like ?? until she came out as a she”). This makes Twin X bitter against his sisters and when that combines with the death of the boy he fell in love with (while a teenager in the closet (hopefully a more progressive and explicit version of Dumbledore, really)), he is convinced to become a necromancer (because that’s both the most absolutely rare version of magic (2-3 in history) and he can bring back his 1 true love, plus he already is a medium and can speak to ghosts). This leads him to secretly being a “borrower” (stealing magic from other living things through ritual sacrifice), which warps his humanity until he thinks that using his oldest sister’s daughter would be a good idea (he hasn’t bonded with her & she shows a lot of power at a young age) to get the power necessary for successful necromancy. Ends up failing because his twin sister defeats his attempt to kill the niece. The actual story is from the niece’s POV when she’s 18-20-ish and the evil uncle is setting up to attack her again (because 1. his family has ancient magic, 2. borrowing works much better through close blood relation). He eventually gets enough power through a sacrifice made by his evil partner (a woman who was in love with him despite the fact he is 100% gay (if he hadn’t been warped by borrowing, he wouldn’t have lead her on)) and the spirits that are speaking to him from the “other side” convince him that if he raises Thomas Putnam, Thomas can raise the boyfriend. Then Thomas possesses him (HE TRICKED EVIL-UNCLE, Oh no!) and becomes the real villain! Ahhhhh! What will they do? The story is supposed to pull from a lot of cultures, that way it’s not just european/latin-based but it also doesn’t imply that Native American/Latin American cultures are actually magic or backwards or something racist.
A dark comedy/romance play about two serial killers that have taken on their victim’s identities to hide from the law but end up having to deal with two incredibly annoying hotel guests the entire time. Basically, a young couple is murdered by 1 girl and 1 guy. They are an infamous serial killer pairing that is terrorizing the West Coast. They dispose of the bodies and because they look sorta like the couple, they take their identities to avoid the heat. They end up going on the (crappy) honeymoon of this dead couple and are coincidentally rooming next to a VERY annoying couple that happen to know the dead woman’s mother/grandmother through something old and white and because of this feel some random attachment to the newly weds. Annoying Lady saw that the Newly Wed Couple were going to the hotel and moved their rooms right next to each other to have an adjoining door, scheduled them for activities, etc. This leads to Serial killer B (the guy) having to convince Serial Killer A (the girl) to not murder the Annoying Couple in every other scene while also getting marriage advice from Annoying Husband on how to keep their marriage healthy. The serial killers end up falling in love (think “fake relationship” trope) and in the end are almost caught, but because of the Karen-ness of Annoying Wife, they get away in the nick of time!
A long powerpoint project that is an aggregate of all of my analyses and opinions on Gilmore Girls (as well as other shows, but mostly Gilmore Girls). This includes Character progression, plot points, writing choices, the use of recurring themes/props/color expressions, wardrobe choices and foreshadowing, the way things should have gone, etc.
Feel free to add your own projects that will probably never get finished! It’s fun to come up with ideas and plan them, but when you have Executive Functioning Issues it can be hard to focus on one project or another because you want to do them all at once (when you even have the energy to do something) and that doesn’t mean you aren’t creative...

Souvenirs of Happiness In the Moment: Reflections on 2017
Some milestones and accomplishments from this year:
Movies About Animals released our first full-length album, Two Decades and Change, in January. I tend to be pretty critical of my own work even after it’s finished, but I wouldn’t change anything about this album. I’ve only grown more proud of it in the last eleven months. We also released a companion EP called Spare Change, with some B-sides and acoustic songs as a bit of a cap on the Two Decades era.
Pelafina had a very busy year. We played 29 shows, including two out-of-state weekends, and released a split with The Flips, a re-recorded and re-mixed version of Pelafina 64, and a single called “Skin.” These songs are particularly special because in addition to writing, I also recorded and mixed all of them myself. The rest of band has been more supportive and encouraging than I could have hoped for while I use our songs to learn the ropes of music production and engineering.
City Mouth played a handful of shows in 2017, but much of the year was spent writing and recording a new EP called Hollows, which will be out early next year. It will be my last release as a member of the band, which still feels strange to say after four years writing and touring with Matt and the rest of the gang, but I’m so excited to see where the new lineup goes (I’ve heard some demos and of course they’re great).
On a more general note, 2017 marked a decade of playing live music. Years To Come played our first official show in September of 2007 at the Coffeehouse in Normal, following a test run in my parents’ basement over the summer, and I’ve played over 300 shows with at least a dozen groups since. If you’ve been there from the beginning, or if you saw me play for the first time this month, thank you.
Outside of music, there were two big personal events I wanted to mention in this year-end wrap up.
On a chilly February night at the Logan Square monument, I asked Liesi to marry me. I was nervous and shaking and probably cried a little bit. I was convinced that the ring was somehow defective and that the diamond would fall off as we walked around the neighborhood afterwards. But mostly I was just happy.
Later, in the summer, my grandma Childers passed away. Her funeral was the first I’d ever been to. My mom asked me to read a poem. I was definitely nervous and definitely cried a lot, caught up in the memories of driving four hours to her old house, of the shag carpet and Beanie Babies, the smell of home-cooked food in a kitchen with a floor so sloped I could race my Matchbox cars, the first time I watched the Star Wars. And later, moving her up to Bloomington after her eyes and ears started to fail her, visiting her often (but never often enough) at her assisted living apartment, watching my mom give so much time and effort and love to make sure grandma was comfortable and healthy and always knew when the Cubs were on. I’ll always aspire to be as loving and generous and kind as she was. I hope I can be.

Video Games
Super Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart 8 dominated my gaming time this year. In fact, I hardly played anything else. But my favorite game of 2017 was not a big Nintendo franchise - it was a small, reflective, narrative game called What Remains of Edith Finch. I played it in one sitting a couple months ago and have thought about it nearly every day since. Don’t read too much about it beforehand, just download it an immerse yourself.
Podcasts
By far my favorite podcast episode this year: Roderick On the Line, Ep. 269: “Yelling At the Radio”
Conclusion
I don’t expect you listen to or watch everything on these lists (although I do recommend all of it). I don’t even expect you to read this far. But if you did, thank you. I hope you had a good year. See you in 2018.
Finally, here’s my favorite song of the year.

Amazon Greelights All or Nothing S2; New Series
Amazon has made two Prime announcements:
SEATTLE–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Mar. 31, 2017– (NASDAQ:AMZN)–Amazon today announced it has greenlit season two of the Emmy-nominated All or Nothing, an Amazon Original Series produced by NFL Films. This season of All or Nothing will give Amazon Prime members access to an NFL season unlike any that’s been captured on screen. Customers will get to see the Rams’ entire 2016 season, which began with their relocation back to Los Angeles and culminated with the hiring of a new head coach and preparations for the 2017 season.
Prime members will be able to stream All or Nothing: A Season with the Los Angeles Rams exclusively via the Amazon Prime Video app for TVs, connected devices including Fire TV, mobile devices and online at amazon.com/allornothing. Members can also download the series to mobile devices for offline viewing at no additional cost to their membership. All or Nothing: A Season with the Los Angeles Rams will also be available to Prime members in Austria, Canada, Germany, Japan, Mexico and the UK.
“All or Nothing brings Amazon Prime members a deep dive into the lives of professional athletes,” said Conrad Riggs, Head of Unscripted, Amazon Originals. “We are excited to highlight the LA Rams in season two, a team with a compelling story of relocation, rebuilding and reuniting with the city they once again call home.”
“NFL Films proved again that they’re the best in the business with the groundbreaking new franchise, All or Nothing, whose inaugural season profiling the 2015 Arizona Cardinals was the highest-rated original series ever on Amazon Prime Video,” said Jordan Levin, Chief Content Officer, NFL Media. “Chronicling the return of the Rams to Los Angeles provides an unbelievably unique backdrop to season two and one which provides NFL fans and viewers around the world rare insight into a team overcoming an extraordinary set of circumstances to build their future.”
“Since bringing pro football back to the Los Angeles region last year after a 21-year absence, we have been committed to giving NFL fans an up-close view of our journey,” said Rams EVP of Football Operations and Chief Operating Officer Kevin Demoff. “We are pleased that NFL Films captured this important chapter in the NFL’s history and are looking forward to working with Amazon to bring this behind-the-scenes look at our team to their customers.”
The first season of All or Nothing, which followed the Arizona Cardinals throughout the 2015 season, currently has an average customer rating of 4.8, with 89% 5 star reviews, making it the highest-rated non-kids Amazon Original Series on Prime Video. Customers can now watch 28 exclusive behind-the-scenes clips from season one by accessing the X-Ray feature on Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, Fire tablets and +3P Android mobile devices.
Produced by NFL Films, All or Nothing: A Season with the Los Angeles Rams is executive produced by Ross Ketover (Hard Knocks, Inside the NFL), and Pat Kelleher (Hard Knocks, 30 for 30 – Four Falls of Buffalo). SEATTLE–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Apr. 10, 2017– (NASDAQ: AMZN)–Amazon announces it has greenlit The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel for an unprecedented two seasons on Prime Video. The Amazon Original Series, from renowned creator Amy Sherman-Palladino (Gilmore Girls) and Executive Producer Daniel Palladino (Family Guy), is Amazon Studios’ first multi-season greenlight of a new series in its history.
The series, written and directed by Sherman-Palladino, stars Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards) as Miriam “Midge” Maisel, a 1958 New York City woman who has everything she’s ever wanted–the perfect husband, two kids, and an elegant Upper West Side apartment perfect for hosting Yom Kippur dinner. But her perfect life suddenly takes an unexpected turn and Midge discovers a previously unknown talent–one that changes her life forever. She charts a course that takes her from her comfortable life on Riverside Drive, through the basket houses and nightclubs of Greenwich Village as she storms the world of stand-up comedy…a course that will ultimately lead her to a spot on Johnny Carson’s couch.
“In her onstage debut, Mrs. Maisel killed and had audiences responding overwhelmingly with digital applause,” said Joe Lewis, Head of Comedy, Drama & VR, Amazon Studios. “Like any great young stand-up, we’re excited to see what she has to say next and for a long time to come. That made it an easy decision to order two seasons from Amy and her incredible cast. We can’t wait to bring it to customers soon.”
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel also stars Michael Zegen (Boardwalk Empire) as Midge’s husband Joel Maisel, Alex Borstein (Family Guy) as Susie Myerson, Golden Globe winner and three-time Emmy winner Tony Shalhoub (Monk) as Midge’s father Abe Weissman, and Marin Hinkle (Two and a Half Men) as Midge’s mother Rose Weissman.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel pilot, currently available for all Amazon customers at amazon.com/originals, has garnered an average customer rating of 4.8, with 92% 5-star reviews.
Below are customer quotes for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel:

“I can’t wait to see the rest of this funny, refreshing and very enjoyable program.”
