working from home really motivates me to do things I have little motivation to do. for example, I need to get in 10k steps a day, but I really didn’t feel like it today, so I instead use this mindset: I am being paid to walk right now. And that really gets me on my feet.
i also like using my paid breaks to do chores. for example, i essentially got paid to clean my cat’s litter boxes and do the dishes.
whatever works, man.

大家好! I read a report late last year stating that there was a surge in global demand for instant noodles due to the high cost of living. Arguably, it is still the case so far this year. Several instant ramen recipes, including hacks to zhng (elevate) the noodles, have appeared on social media. In Southeast Asia, people also stirfry them. If you want fresh ideas to jazz up instant ramen, I've included a coupla videos below. They can even be used as a substitute for pasta; I used to do that when the ex craved noodles to keep meals interesting.

Jammy eggs may be all the rage but I remain a firm fan of softboiled ones. Have you added soy sauce and pepper to 2 softboiled eggs, stirred them up and coated instant noodles with the mixture? For a balanced meal, add a side of blanched choy sum, bak choy or Napa cabbage. Softboiled is my favourite way to eat eggs and I'm not the only one. Friends drool when I post pics of them; before long, they share photos of their own. Alternatively, slurp them up plain as a snack!

When food remains expensive, the best solution is to explore our vibrant hawker scene. Pasta prices average between $12 - $28 in restaurants and cafes and they're often served with pitiful amounts of veggies and protein. At the coffee shop I visit during WFH lunches is a stall selling local Western fare. Their seafood pasta came with decent portions of fish, shrimp, imitation crab stick and there were julienned onions and carrots in the sauce. The price: $7.90.

Israel has claimed that it will open Ashdod Port and Erez Gate to allow more humanitarian aid to flow into Gaza. Whether it will carry this out and how soon will determine Palestinians' fate as this bloodstained war continues. To me, the pressure exerted on Israel was mainly due to the killing of aid workers operating under WCK, founded by celebrity chef Jose Andres. Many humanitarian aid workers, purportedly mainly Palestinians have perished, without a peep from Western governments and mainstream media. It seems like double standards again, right?

Clearly, what is preventing the possibility of long term peace is Israel. They have rejected a two state solution when the rest of the world is overwhelmingly for it. If they agree to it, then I may view future attacks by Hamas against Israel as inexcusable and unreasonable. Palestinians just want their own land, which is increasingly encroached upon by Israeli settlers. Try as I might, I can't find anything wrong with what they want. 下次见!

Let’s see. Four hours until work for 2B. She wants to cry, but is not sad so she can’t, and be alone. That we can do! Meditation time! And keeping 9S away so she can enjoy said alone time. WFH for 2B! It’s time to practice ordering around! ...I was waiting for 2B to be done with the meditation on her own time but it’s 11AM. I’m clicking of that meditation. Anyway time for her to practice ordering around a training dummy.
Now it’s finally time for 9S to chat and embrace 2B! Would farm some romance interactions with 2B while I’m at it. And this included TWO rounds of woohoo! Romance fulfilled. Now it’s time for 9S to be HACKERMAN! A round of hacks plus practising programming for his whim. And let’s browse Simpedia as well! Why not? HEY! He tuned on tunes and woke up 2B! Rude! ...at least she’s well rested. And now she’s sad. Alas. And needs a hug. She’ll get one from 9S before she spends more alone time on the meditation stool. ...2B got the sedentary lifestyle. Welp. Too much meditation time, I suppose. ...we’re not keeping that though. So whims are to flirt with 9S and to stay on lot for eight hours. Mm. It’s 6 hours until she has to go into work but so eh.

9S is up. And wants a date. Alas, less than 8 hours until 2B has to go to work. Eh don’t really have much to do. I’ll have 2B workout. After so much flaffing, it’s finally time to send 2B to work. And she got a promotion! She’s a captain now!
9S wants to cloudgaze with Bautista Bencomo, a random Sim he knows. It’s overcast in Willow Creek so let’s go travelling. Sunsnow in Magnolia Promenade, nope. Windy at Newcrest...pin in it. Partially cloudy in Forgotten Hollow! We have a winner! Inviting Bautista over and, ah. That explains the high friendship without a formal introduction. He’s a gym trainer. Now I’ll have 9S hang by the chess tables at the center of Forgotten Hollow. Introduced himself to a hedge fund manager by the name of Aitana Ochoa. Aye! He got a positive sentiment with her! Might as well make her social bunny friends then. And now 9S has a promotion. He’s a Conspiracy Squelcher! Time for him to get to work!
And time to switch to 2B. Who wants to talk to her neighbor Gerald! We’ll make friends with him while we’re at it. Got a very tense moodlet for too many friends though. Contrasts her Close Knit lifestyle. Anyway, now she wishes to be alone so let’s do some more fishing. And now she’s getting whims related to fishing! Woo. We’re on the final stage of fishing aspiration for 2B! And it’s a skill cap. Level 10 fishing time! She’s at 8 now. Anyway, that’s enough fishing. Let’s head home. Checking in on 9S and his whims and he wants to date 2B. Will do so when we come back to this household!

So I was scrolling through my oldest asks just as a way to remember what things were like back then and so on and I ran across this and it's an ask I can actually answer!
So uh. Exactly a decade later here we are. Ten facts about my writing:
I've written poetry in English, Russian, Japanese, and Spanish, even though I'm only really fluent in two of those.
I've translated a bunch of poetry in my life, and I'm currently making my first foray into translating a prose work from English to Russian.
I've written more prose in the last three years than I have in the rest of my life (all 3 decades of it) combined.
I've successfully completed NaPoWriMo thrice.
I've only successfully completed NaNoWriMo once and the resulting work is unusable. It's literally just 50k of backstory LOLSOB
I used to do a lot of collaborative storytelling/text roleplay, starting from when I was 12 or so. I started out in a Dark Hunters roleplay yahoogroup wherein I was definitely the youngest member, having never read a single Sherrilyn Kenyon book, because I make fantastic choices. I wasn't super active but it was a fun community to be part of. (I've since read one Sherrilyn Kenyon book XD)
So that was twenty years ago. Ten years ago I was doing a bunch of roleplaying on Omegle and on a Kushiel's Legacy php board and right here on tumblr as @puckishsprite.
Speaking of roleplays, one piece of writing that I'm slowly plugging away at is a Lasers & Feelings hack based on the Books of the Raksura by Martha Wells.
I've published two original short stories! Both with Duck Prints Press.
I've learned to be kind to myself about having an inconsistent pace when it comes to my writing. It makes sense that I got a lot of writing done in the early days of lockdown when I barely had any tasks to do for work because there was very little that could be done WFH and the library hadn't yet brought us back to start processing books for holds to go. Now we're back to full time in person work and I have a different and more brain-intensive job and there's all sorts of life maintenance stuff and the union work. It makes sense that the writing will fall by the wayside a little bit. It doesn't mean the creativity isn't happening, it's just happening a bit slower. And that's all right.

1) Follow Japan's 80% Rule
“Eat until you're only 80% full.”
Overeating makes the body divert blood & energy to digestion (causing drowsiness).
Nobody has time for a food coma. So, at lunch:
Prioritize nutritious foods
Eat slowly to calibrate fullness
Stop eating at 80%
2) Stay Hydrated
Your brain is 73% water. Dehydration impairs decision-making and causes low energy. So give your brain the water it deserves:
Drink 0.5-1 fl oz per lb of bodyweight
Carry a water flask everywhere you go
Hydrate, think clearly, keep that energy.
3) Use a Standing Desk
Our ancestors used to hunt mammoths.
Now we sit at desks for 8 hours every day. Then we watch TV for another 3 hours (on average). Humans aren't built for this.
Simply, we're wired to be alert when standing.
87% of those who use a standing desk report increased energy. I use Fully Jarvis, but there are less expensive options (including desktop conversions).
Get a standing desk, take walking meetings, move your body daily.
4) Optimize Your Work Environment
Activate your 5 senses:
👂 Score your afternoon with music (I like Hans Zimmer)
👁️ Hide bad triggers (phone)
👃 Use an aromatherapy diffuser (peppermint & lemon promote focus)
👋 Set a cool room temp for alertness (69-72°)
👅 Hydrate; stock healthy snacks
5) Set a Pomodoro Timer
Recenter your focus after lunch with a Pomodoro timer.
I like Focus To-Do, a Chrome extension. Set a timer in the app for 25 mins on, 5 mins off.
25 mins of pure focus is science-backed. It's cognitively challenging but feels attainable.

6) Power Nap (if you WFH)
Einstein. Thatcher. da Vinci.
All famous nappers.
Take a midday power nap. You'll get two days of energy in one.
Effective napping is two-fold:
Length: Naps >30 mins might put you in REM, inducing sleep inertia (grogginess)
Time of day: Napping past 3 pm often hurts evening sleep (prioritize 7+ hours nightly). Find your sweet spot of length and time.
