Obvs being in a relationship is different but I’m pretty close friends with a girl who’s 8.5 years my junior (she just turned 22). She goes out drinking with my friends and I and she’s really fun but I also get so worried about her all the time lol. I have to consciously remind myself that she’s a grown ass woman and she can handle herself. Idk if that happens to you or anything. But I’ve had to really reflect and work on it bc it infantilizes her to think she can’t hold her own just bc she’s younger. okay so right . before i get into my Personal hcs i feel like i should explain why he is literally so fucking autistic to the point that despite being a oneoff chara he to this day is one of my strongest supported autistic hcs . because i could go into like Depth and pick apart a bunch of tiny little details but literally if i just in very broad strokes describe him as "a guy with an extremely narrow interest that he zeroes in on and impulsively buys tons of things out of excitement for it and who is infantilized by his mother despite being a grown adult and whose 'best friend' in fact seems to deeply resent him a fact he is entirely clueless of because of his inability to read the very obvious social cues" and ull be MORE than convinced so why would i bother

speaking of which he has a special interest on ancient torture devices which is like two steps away from canon anyway <3 his show is one massive excuse to infodump on the subject . pov youre about to get your head chopped off and you just want to get it over with but unfortunately your would-be murderer is giddily explaining the history of the guillotine

i think hes like . he has this weird masking thing that he cant stop doing where he basically CONSTANTLY even when hes not on camera acts like hes acting like hes constantly flourishing and performing for a camera and an audience and shit . its part of why people tend to find him kind of obnoxious because hes CONSTANTLY doing his stage persona bc thats just how he masks and gets thru social interaction while still seeming charismatic and he doesnt really know how to switch it off totally

he like . he masks a lot to hide Social Awkwardness which hes pretty good at but hes very very bad at masking his emotions if hes uspet hes UPSET . especially with sensory issues if you ruffle his hair when hes not expecting it he gets VERY FLAILY and makes a lot of dismayed noises he cant really regulate his reactions to stuff at all . im crazy about cecil and junos weird half-friendship so i think he Knows cecils ways of reacting to stuff and like just out of habit he immediately course corrects whenever cecil makes one of his little agh argh rhghrhg noises that means hes overwhelmed and trying Very Badly to mask it . dont let anyone kno tho they cant know juno (ugh) Doesnt Want Cecil To Be Upset or whatever

im probably gonna write a whole essay on this soon but right now i just have to get this out bc i feel like western audiences gravely mistake the understanding of "kawaii" and youthful aesthetics in asian cultures because the western experience/expectation of a childhood is very different to asian

asian youth are given very different expecations to western youth; theres less of an air of freedom due to the expectation that they provide for any living older generations, as well as find a spouse before the age of about 25 in fear of being considered "leftovers". there's this urgency in youth, being suddenly thrust into a world of high expectations when you're only beginning to figure yourself out. this also exists in the west but the idea of carefree youth is quite prevalent as well: instead of young people being put in positions of high responsibility, they are looked down upon as useless and infantile. this is why western counterculture tends to emphasize maturity and adulthood; sexual elements, growing out hair, taking political action is common across subcultures in the west.

in asia, because the way youth is looked at is the opposite of this, and thus, so is the counterculture. to westerners, the idea of counterculture is so entwined with adulthood that they must question: in what way is this associated with maturity? because kawaii is not outwardly political or violent, the blame shifts to sexuality. it is quite common knowledge that literally anything can be a fetish to someone, yet people still assume that such a large amount of people fresh out of childhood would openly express such perversions through their dress; this is simply illogical. to me it is truly disgusting how this is the conclusion that many jump to; if there was suddenly a subculture of people who dressed as the elderly, would it be considered fetish? on top of that, kawaii subcultures do not aim to emulate actual children, but rather the "inner child" of the adult. the child who was denied the ability to be carefree and existing for no one but themselves; something that is deeply rebellious to cultures which celebrate collectivism + conservatism over individualism. the soju is making me dizzy now so i will continue this in my essay which i will write tomorrow or in 5 years

let's get one thing straight lmfao i dont call players my sons especially when theyre my age or older, and also calling someone baby as a pet name isnt the same as actually babying them. me calling players baby isnt the same as people acting like actual grown adult men are children that cant take care of themselves, which i also do not do. when i call my friends or partners baby, im not infantilizing them. its just an affectionate pet name.

the actual problem, as stated, is acting like legit grown adult men are children who cant take care of themselves, which then contributes to the idea that nhlers are "uwu babies who cant do anything wrong uwu," which is just so clearly not true considering how actually deeply flawed the nhl and individual nhlers are. its also just annoying as hell as someone who is the same age as these people. like i said, if someone treated me like that, or put me on a pedestal that high off the ground, i would smack them.

also i have been thinking abt this all day but theres something deeply insidious abt the trope in like reality tv comedies where theres a relationship w/ a boyfriend and a single mother but the boyfriend is constantly being cucked by the moms son

idk if thats too specific but ive actually seen it happen in a few shows now and its extremely unsettling to me bc imo it feeds into the unhealthy glorification of like. womanly “purity” and reducing female agency to what the “man of the house” allows even if that man is literally her child. which in turn also implies that a grown woman still has to be held subject to male protection as if shes not totally capable of doing what she wants with whoever she wants bc god forbid our beautiful mother mary b a FILTHY THOT w/ sexual freedom

12) if you could change one ending to a book/show/game/etc, what would you change about it?

i was going to say there isnt any, because i dont tend to. think deeply enough to question or hate the ending but. then i remembered the absolute hell world chii is living in and i changed my mind

this turned into a mini rant but aaaa

keep in mind that im viewing these problems through a creators issue, not an in story issue, because the story is the direct result of the creators and their views.

chii is introduced to the story almost naked, wrapped in some sort of cloth/ribbon/bandage thingy. even before she says a word, there’s the fact that her power on/reset button is on her vagina. alright, lets assume this is justified because im not talented enough to dismantle that.

from the beginning, her naivety is used as a way for her to accidentally do things that arouses hideki. most of the time, instead of attempting to explain to chii why you shouldn’t do these things, he instead hides his boner, a pose which chii then copies. 

chii, at the beginning of the series, has absolutely no memory. she can only say her own name. she learns from what is shown to her. she begins to gain knowledge of words and phrases, but for a good half of the series, before it dips from romcom into drama, she still makes comedic mistakes that hideki (our protagonist, and thus, the window of normal in which the viewers see this world) continues to be aroused by for Comedy(TM). 

now okay. chii being infantile and hideki being the aroused adult rubs me the wrong way. but surely its not that bad, right?

no. the main plot of the series is based around not loving chii for only her sexual potential. and yet, the series continues to take advantage of her sexual potential until it is no longer appropriate to use such scenes (i.e. the series becomes more dramatic than comedic). it should be noted that the time chii begins to understand more and thus have more potential to consent, or at least, understand these sexual situations, the jokes cut off.

theres a whole lot else including scenes where her sister does stuff like kiss her and touch her inappropriately but thats a whole other issue 

im not good at debate or analysis but what i do know is cute girls, and chii is a cute girl who deserves better. ideally, chii would be able to live as a human girl and experience the world enough where she is confidently able to make her own choices about what she wants. basically it all sums up to fuck hideki lives
