One of mine is T. Kingfisher!

The Twisted Ones is the first book I read by Kingfisher and it has stuck with me nearly every day since.

"Then I made faces like the faces on the rocks, and I twisted myself about like the twisted ones, and I lay down flat on the ground like the dead ones."

I say this all the time in my head, especially when I see the book or hear someone talking about it. I suppose I'm just Twisted 🤣

My second read by Kingfisher was The Hollow Places, which I loved just as much, possibly more!

Kingfisher has this uniquely dark writing style with elements of humor and fun. Like, one moment my heart is racing and there's f'd up shit happening and the next, a character is doing or saying something completely out of character and I'm laughing. In The Hollow Places I also found myself falling in love with one special character/monster. My heart was so full of love, and fear all at once.

Good evening bats. Today's piece can, if you want it to, lead you to one of my new favorite artists from a somewhat niche genre of gothic art: Lowbrow gothic. This art is a fantastic amalgamation of certain aspects from both toon hertz and Irenhorrors styles, two artists from what I personally consider to be the uppermost echelon of active gothic artists. This is the furthest along iteration of my favorite of her pieces that I could find posted that wasn't a photo of a physical print of it. After this stage, some alterations are implemented, including an amazing fine-tuning of the coloration, resulting in a wickedly spooky blue themed palatte that moves the piece from "pretty cool" solidly into "wicked". Obviously I recommend checking out her other pieces and following her if you like her style, and maybe buy some merch while you're there. .
