vampire-dude ha risposto al tuo post “phandom: a diverse group of mostly queer people who have found...”
i think ur completely missing the point of what ppl tend to mean when they say that. not everyone is going to care why you do it or why you consider urself a part of the fandom. because of the reputation the phandom has, this is what ppl tend to assume, and tbh, rightfully so unless much has changed in the past two years or so
I will answer to you because you haven’t been as rude as other people that I had to block, but here’s the thing, I think you are the one who’s misinterpreting my post. I am in no way justifying the gross behaviour exhibited by some people in the phandom in the past. the stalking? the harassing? the asking personal questions? everything dan mentioned in the video (all of which happened around 2012-2015) is fucking wrong, I don’t think I should even be saying this, because it’s obvious. generalizations though? never good, never accurate assessments. even back then it was only a bunch of, admittedly loud people, doing all that shit, it wasn’t the whole fandom. and now things have actually changed, which is why it’s so annoying to see all these posts from people who don’t know anything about the current status of the phandom assuming things just based on its reputation. things have in fact changed a lot in the past few years. lots of people have left (probably some of the most toxic ones tbh), many other genuinely wholesome people have joined and managed to outnumber the remaining invasive fans. fandoms might mostly exist online, but they’re still diverse groups of people and, like you wouldn’t hopefully generalize a group of thousands and thousands of people in real life, thinking they all share the same thoughts and act the same way, you shouldn’t generalize when it comes to fandoms either. I joined this fandom two years ago, I follow over 100 dnp blogs and not one has ever been anything but respectful and supportive of them. I’m not denying that there’s probably still some toxic fans out there, but they’re vastly outnumbered and, at the end of the day, there’s nothing we can do about it anyway. it’s so incredibly frustrating and disheartening to see random people going around throwing insults at a community that includes so many queer people, many of them young, for literally just finding a safe space full of acceptance through the support of two queer content creators. other people have said this better than me, so I won’t go on, but like.. just to give you an example: the first reaction of people from the phandom to dan’s video was a mix of joy, pride, tears, love, relief, for feeling accepted and validated in our existences, so many people sharing their stories with sexual identity and coming out. it was beautiful. on the other hand, the first reaction from some people outside of the phandom was “well dan came out, that’s cool, but these ugly creepy fangirls still need to choke”. we were posting proud heartfelt messages of love and support, while others were posting all the “stop fetishizing”, “yall still suck”, “don’t make it about phan” posts. so pray tell, who was making dan’s video about something other than dan???
