while I do like how a lot of these new tv adaptations of book series have been updating and expanding the stories, what I wouldn’t give for an honest to god actual page-to-screen adaptation for once
#shhh sharkie#I’m watching The Spiderwick Chronicles tv show and while I haven’t read the books in a while#I know we have gone so far off the rails from the books#it doesn’t help when you know the authors had some say in it and approve it#cause like yay i’m glad you’re getting to re-tell your story in this new medium!#and I genuinely like the show!!! but was flipping back through my copies of the books and. well. yeah it’s barely the same story anymore.#I don’t mind this. but tbh might go back and watch the movie cause that was at least like actually 60-70% true to the books#to this list also throw in both WondLa and The Mysterious Benedict Society#A Series of Unfortunate Events does not get included in this list because the plot was still the same#the only things changed were like tiny modernization/storytelling medium changes#not like. a fundamentally different plot.#why is The Spiderwick Chronicles stealing the plot of Locke and Key. LITERALLY.#and I think that show was based on books too!!!#ugh idk like I said I like the show but#it’s just really not the books.#and I’m tired of watching all these stories get changed in ways that don’t make sense#hell even not making Simon and Jared identical twins. that’s a whole fucking plot point!!!!!! that’s how they escape the fairies!!!!!!!#the whole point is that they’re identical and they trick them because they can’t tell them apart!!!!!!!
