Good Morning DC! My name is Tina and I live in Mount Pleasant with my husband, our toddler aged daughter and our two fur babies 🐶🐶. You heard it right, Washingtonians. We all know that DC has been reforming over the past ten years but who knew it would change so drastically! Thanks to Chief Lanier and Vince Gray, I would say. In '91, there were 479 homicides in DC and 601,000 people living in the District. The population then declined by 30,000 in 2000. In 2010, there were 602,000(!) people living in the District (and we know that number keeps growing) and yearly homicides continue to decline! 2010 experienced 132 homicides! Obviously, 0 homicides is the only thing to be excited about but a 350-count drop is definitely something we should all be thankful for.

Also, check out the above article on improving test scores since Fenty was in office.

MPD also say that if the trend continues the way it is this year, homicide count could drop to 115 for 2011. Thank you MPD and everyone else involved in making our city a safer and more livable place. WhyILoveDC

Happy 4th to all who celebrate today. I’ve captured one of the best views of the @nmaahc and Washington Monument.
