Insley Smullen is a poet and photographer residing in San Francisco, California.
Possessed of an intense interest in nature and storytelling since childhood, Insley’s work focuses on the natural world and the interactions between the humans and animals within it. Shooting primarily with a Mamiya C220 and black and white film, Insley aims to explore and thoughtfully play with the tension between natural spectrums: life and death, growth and decay, animal and man, with a focus on the vulnerability that connects us all.

It was so sweet! Paddy’s wife was doubly blessed! 😍 Not only did she have a great boyfriend (now husband) then but she also saw with him these two lovely creatures! 🥰

Menu Monday: Princeton alumni dinner at the University Hotel, June 21, 1882.
Somewhere between 300-400 people attended this dinner, where John Insley Blair announced a gift of $5,000 (about $150,000 in today’s dollars) in support of a new art school. Though ancestors of his were involved in the founding of Princeton, Blair himself did not attend. The New York Times reported in his obituary in 1899 that at the age of 10 Blair told his mother, “Mother, I have seven brothers and three sisters. That’s enough in the family to get educated. I’m going to get rich.” Blair became one of the richest people in the 19th century, and was a frequent donor to Princeton, as well as serving on its Board of Trustees.
