I realized I really need to be talking about Hope Adder Enterprises, The Wicked Dig, and really... anything that's not just Pig and Sow after months waving them around like an advertisement sign for my clan lore, so I'll talk a little bit about a couple other major players, these two are V.A.N. and The INTRUDER. My heaviest deviance from site lore is connected to the works of Hope Adder, and these two- notably, the time-lock that exists around the facilities of Hope Adder and the Analog Virus that INTRUDER himself spreads, things that are still magical in nature to ME so I can use them for my cyber/dieselpunk lore fantasies okay.
VAN is the cause of the time lock, and at one point, was a completely normal tundra scientist living in Lightning with her research partner and husband, but as much as necessity breeds innovation among the researchers of any flight, desperation breeds mistakes- and desperation in VAN's husband led him to strip VAN of her recognized form and of her personhood entirely, trapping her within H.A.E.'s walls as something of a Biomechanical AI core, every spike or spine actually a node to attach wires and cables, her mind fragmented into pieces more useful for the application of research. He was successful, for a time, Stolen research, valor, and a 'missing' wife right beneath the nose of his fellow scientists- but in her desperation to escape, to free herself from the newfound binds of a world that made no sense and a forced loyalty to the very people who would throw her aside the moment someone easier to work with appeared, she clawed at thin spaces in reality, at gaps she didn't quite understand but knew were doors she might be able to squeeze through- surely her spirit was smaller than the body she'd been trapped within.
Instead, she threw open the first tear, instead, she unleashed INTRUDER. Born of trash code and a desperation to escape, INTRUDER is actually without a proper form of its own, wearing the visage of the first dragon it saw- of the first dragon it mangled and consumed. A technological parasitoid, a virus with a mind of its own, INTRUDER quickly infected or outright killed most of the people within Hope Adder when it was released, and in her horror, VAN deployed a failsafe- trapping those in the facility in a time-bubble the moments after INTRUDER's escape- stilling the infection in those still alive within, and trapping the survivors in the moments before the cataclysm.
Her efforts to contain INTRUDER would be in vain, however. Slipping out seconds before the temporal lock could settle into place, VAN had successfully built the perfect prison for the things she let go- but couldn't restrain the only one that mattered.
Now, Hope Adder Enterprises operates as a secure base used to contain, capture, and study entities both infected with INTRUDER's Analog Virus and those of the mysterious "Host"- theorized to be one in the same.
Now, VAN has to work with her captor once more- she hopes that perhaps he might be speaking the truth for the first time ever, when he says his intention is to cure- but she's seen the way he craves power.

Saddle Stitch Binding
Our first binding method is saddle stitch, which happens to be the easiest of all. Saddle stitching proves affordable and ideal for documents consisting of fewer pages. By stapling wire through the spine and folding printed sheets in half, a finished product takes shape. Alternatively, utilizing looped staples permits insertion into ring binders without requiring punched holes.
Side Staple Binding
The side staple technique is primarily employed to bind perforated pages, such as those found in quote books and delivery notes. The procedure involves stacking individual pages together before stapling them with wire through the front cover from front to back before trimming.
Singer Sewn & Side Sewn Binding
Singer-sewn binding is a sturdy technique employed for creating resilient materials such as passports. It employs an industrial sewing machine to stitch the pages together along the spine lengthwise. Additionally, side singer-sewn or side-sewn binding provides another option where pages are jointly fastened through both front and back covers, making it perfect for thicker books and notepads.
Padded/Pad Binding
The technique of pad binding, also known as "padding," is utilized primarily for notepads and enables the easy detachment of individual pages. A lower-strength adhesive coating is applied on the edge of a stack of pages to create these pads. To ensure stability and usability when held, a thicker board is generally affixed at the back end.
Wiro /Plastic Coil Binding 
The two primary types of punched binding are wire and plastic coil binding, enabling books to open fully flat with the pages rotating 360 degrees towards the back. Firstly, printed pages are trimmed and then hole-punched before being fastened using a spiral coil or wire that is crimped shut.
Japanese / Stab Binding 
Dating back centuries, Japanese or stab binding is a decorative technique where sheets are folded once at the center, hole-punched and sewn by hand along the spine using different needle and thread patterns.
Perfect binding
The process of perfect binding involves using machinery to bind softcover books, magazines and brochures. The technique entails stacking individual pages together before affixing them to an outer cover that sports a square spine. This is achieved by the application of potent polyurethane (PUR) glue which gives the method its name- Perfect Binding.
Burst Binding 
Burst binding is essentially perfect binding with a unique twist whereby pages are grouped into sections, folded and then notched down the spine by machinery to achieve stronger adherence of glue. This results in an exceptionally robust finish that makes it particularly ideal for books containing a greater number of pages compared to standard bindings.
Quarter Binding 
In the past, quarter-bound, half-bound or taped bindings were commonly used to produce books at a lower cost by employing inexpensive materials. These binding methods involve two distinct materials - one for covering the spine and another for protecting the cover. However, to enhance durability, pages are often bonded together and fastened on one side which results in reduced ease of opening compared with
Case Binding 
The conventional hardcover book involves printing pages that are folded and stitched into multiple sections, safeguarded by a firm rigid cover. The covers may be coated with various materials like linen, buckram or leather; alternatively, a printed design can be affixed on top of the tough casing. Such casebound books have long-lasting durability and might even sustain restoration years down the road.
Pamphlet Stitch
A refined binding technique known as the pamphlet stitch is ideal for documents with a modest number of pages. After folding and hole-punching the printed sheets, one manually threads them together using needle and thread before tying them off at the book's center to finish it elegantly.
Exposed Spine Binding
Exposed spine binding, also known as exposed Smyth sewn or thread-bound, is an aesthetically appealing method of bookbinding. Senkuu Ishigami shouldn't be here.
Ace's lab was her sanctuary. Sure it was where she crafted new types of paper, different formulas of ink, and experimented with binding materials. But it was also where she worked—where she transcribed his notes; where she concocted elaborate plans for holidays and birthdays; where people came to her about their woes because the Five Commanders were too intimidating; where she kept censuses and cataloged inventories.
It was the hub of everything they had built—but it was tantamount to treason to be in here without her presence, let alone without her permission. Her excuse was that she kept "state secrets" locked away in here; but he knew that it was because the thought of anyone touching anything and possibly making a mess or misplacing something was what her nightmares were made of.
But he needed his notes. And not just any notes—he needed his notes from when he wired the village with electricity. And he knew that they were here because they weren't in the archives, and they weren't in his own lab.
When things started to pick up during their preparations for America, other notes had taken precedence for her transcriptions and these had fallen to the wayside. And then they were petrified for seven years, and now with space flight on the horizon (the Senkuu Five had made it to the upper portion of the stratosphere before burning up).....
Excuses. His infrastructure was falling apart, and he was trying to justify his lack of upkeep. But he had spent the last month studying Ace's work with the Christmas lights and was confident in his ability to recreate it on a scale that would bring power more consistently, more efficiently, to the whole village, but he needed his old notes—
There! The blue canvas bound notebook sat on top of a pile of woven boxes on an upper shelf near her primary desk. It was at the upper limit of his reach, but a quick glance around the room did not immediately reveal the step stool she would use for such an occasion.
Maybe if he stood on his tip toes....
His fingertips were just barely able to brush the spine of the notebook. If he leaned up against the bookshelf so that he could elongate himself a bit further by shifting to just his right foot and fully extending his left hand—
Senkuu applied pressure in the wrong spot somewhere in the sequence, and within microseconds had the boxes tumbling down on top of him, lids popping off and bursting open on the floor.
Shit.
Notebook forgotten, Senkuu got on his knees and began inspecting the boxes. They weren't particularly well crafted, and had quite literally burst open in some places, slips of paper sliding out of gaps in the weave as he moved them around.
There was so much paper. Different colors, different textures, different weights, different sizes. Some of them even looked old enough that they might have been from her first successful batch of sheets.
The more pieces of paper that he picked up, the more it dawned on him that they had something specific in common.
They were all folded in a way that they sealed themselves, but not all the folds were the same. They were all written on, but the method of application changed—sometimes charcoal; others a watery, colorful pigment that she must have been experimenting with; more than a few in something silver that reminded him of graphite; and a majority in the familiar black ink that she used for everything. They all had a date, and while some dates repeated, they were largely all different—the oldest going back ten, fifteen, no, nineteen years.
But primarily, the one thing they all had in common—they all carried his name, written in the delicate looping script that she reserved for special occasions.
Senkuu
There were hundreds—maybe thousands—of pieces of paper, no, letters scattered on the floor around him. Hours upon hours upon hours of work, spent just writing his name. She reserved the script for special occasions, even in the Old World, because it required a level of precision that was not conducive to the use of her left hand, her dominant hand.
He was briefly reminded of the way her face would scrunch up during penmanship lessons when they were young—even writing in kanji had been difficult for her because of how she physically handled her pencil; her parents had met with their teachers more than once because of the teachers' frustration over her "inability" to learn and adapt.
Her parents had opted to ask around their apartment building for anyone who was, or knew someone who was, left-handed until they found someone to be her tutor.
Some writing utensils made things more difficult, but once she understood what to do, she had quickly surpassed him and Taiju in their lessons, and the teachers stopped complaining.
He remembered that there was a specific brand—no, model—of pen that she swore by in middle school. Asked for it in bulk as her birthday present after their first few months in high school. It felt good in her hand, didn't skip on the paper as she pushed it along, and didn't smudge as her hand passed over it.
Senkuu sits for a moment, trying to remember the pen. He could see her delicate fingers curving around it; her thumb clicking the end of it as she pondered over something. It came in a couple of different colors, but the black was her favorite. She said that the formula changes slightly when you change the pigment, so the quality wasn't the same.
He returns to the letters, the name of the pen lost to the recesses of his mind.
It would be wrong of him to open the letters. She obviously kept them hidden away for a reason.
On the other hand, they were all addressed to him, so it was probably fine if he read them.
He warred with himself for a moment more, before greedily snatching up the one closest at hand.
The outside of the letter revealed itself to be from May 13th of 5739. The paper was crude, as if she hadn't had the proper tools to craft it, and it appeared to be written in charcoal. What was happening in 5739? His curiosity piqued, he used his thumbnail to pry up a corner and unfolded the letter.
Senkuu, I can't believe you're really gone. It's been a little over a month since Tsukasa killed you, and it's taken me far too long to write you a new letter. I'm not sure why I'm bothering, since you're dead, but it is oddly cathartic, and it's a nice break from the monotony of working with Tsukasa. He's being very selective about the people he's choosing to revive. I fear the day that he decides that I'm no longer of use to him. I wish you were here, Senkuu. -Ace
Senkuu lets the letter fall from his hands. He knew he had fucked up by not telling her the truth about his plan, but he had needed Tsukasa to believe that he was dead. And if Ace had not been adequately grieving him? It would have been suspicious. She had made it very clear to him upon their reunion that he had fucked up. And he made it up to her. But to see the tear stains dried on the page, smearing and erasing the charcoal in places....
Maybe something more recent would lift his spirits? The next letter he picks up is from June of 5741.
Ishigami, I'm writing because I'm trying to respect your authority here in the village and not undermine you, as you were so quick to assume that I would the second that I disagreed with you. So, you absolute shithead, I—
Senkuu didn't find it appropriate to keep reading that letter, so he moved onto the next. February 14th of 5744.
Senkuu, I wish I could talk to you about this. You're still my closest friend despite everything, and I value your opinion more than anyone else's. But it's Valentine's Day. And I'm struggling to come up with a gift for Ryuu. And you know how brilliant I am with gifts! It doesn't help that I don't know how to feel about him. I love him dearly, I do. But I don't know if I'm in love with him. And he knows that, and he's being exceptionally kind about it. He put together a booklet of sea shanties for me. Said I could learn them and keep myself busy while you guys are in America. He made the paper, and processed the ink, and bound it all on his own. I guess his time in my lab has paid off! He did have Minami do the actual transcribing—which is fair. I've had to decipher and transcribe his notes, so I know how bad his handwriting is. I wish I could know how you feel. -Ace
Did they break up because of me? No, that couldn't be right. Ryuusui was too happy about him and Ace finally getting together for that to be the case.
The next one he picked up, he had a pretty good idea of what he'd find inside. But he popped it open anyway. January 5th of 5757.
Senkuu!!! We did it! Well, you did it. But my emotional support and brilliant wisdom account for something, right? God, I can't believe you're actually going to go to the moon. Like, it was always an inevitability in the Old World, y'know? But now? You've reached the space age in just twenty years! Thirteen if you want to ignore the second petrification! I never stopped believing in you, but this just beats any kind of reasonable expectation. Byakuya would be so proud of you. -Ace P.S. I'm sorry about the kiss. I understand if you aren't interested, now or ever, for that matter. But it was nice, and I'd like to do it again if you also found it agreeable. ♡
For being one of the smartest guys on the planet, I am, for sure, a certified dumbass.
Senkuu kept pouring over her love letters for the rest of his morning, through his lunch, and didn't realize that the sun had set until the lights flickered on around him.
He looked up, squinting into the sudden brightness, to find a figure standing in the doorway. Rubbing at his blurry eyes with a fist and blinking a few times, revealed the figure to be no one else but the author herself.
"Whatcha doin' Senkuu?" She leaned on the door frame with her arms crossed over her chest, and a scowl on her lips.
Mouth completely devoid of moisture, it took a moment for Senkuu to find his voice. Only to guiltily reply, "Nothing."
"Right." Ace stood upright and walked over to one of the tables centered in the room before clearing a space for her backpack. "Because 'nothing'," she emphasized with air quotes, "definitely involves trashing my lab and reading through sensitive documents."
"They all have my name on them!" Senkuu protested, joints creaking as he got to his feet.
"And they were all tucked away from prying eyes instead of given to you because you were never meant to see them!" She set about removing items from her backpack, and they quickly revealed themselves to be dinner—enough for two.
"Not even this one?" Senkuu asked, a letter poised between two fingers and a smug look on his face. Ace reached across the table and snatched it out of his hand. A quick glance at the date—December 25th 5757—had her face heating up in embarrassment.
"Definitely not this one. I should've burned it as soon as I finished." At the first opportunity, she had written everything they had done Christmas Eve night and Christmas morning (and afternoon) in explicit detail so that she could commit it to memory. Unbeknownst to Senkuu, there was a second half of the letter that she had burned that detailed everything that she wished they had been able to continue doing.
It had been a time of whispered confessions and lengthy exploration. Ace had known Senkuu to be more observant and attentive to other's needs than he led everyone to believe, but it was like she had unlocked a new side of him. In the weeks since, he had referred to it and them several times as "stupid feelings shit"; but he quickly changed his tune every time, as soon as she weaved their fingers together. (The words that Gen had been using to describe the look on Senkuu's face in these moments were "lovesick" and "dopey".)
She had considered throwing out the boxes of love letters (though she hesitated to call them that) several times over the years, but could never bring herself to part with them. Particularly the ones that leaned more towards "hate" letters because they served as a reminder of just how much they had been through together.
It did bother her a bit that he had read the letters from when she was with Ryuusui—her heart ached to recall how she desperately wanted to love Ryuusui the way he deserved—but her heart belonged to Senkuu, and it had taken her relationship with Ryuusui for her to figure that out. A long, distressing three years of confusion.
Senkuu moved quickly while Ace was lost in thought, rounding the table and snatching the letter back from her hands. He set it on the table before pressing into her back, wrapping his arms around her middle, and placing a chaste kiss under her ear. "You brought me dinner."
"I did, but with the state of my lab, I'm not sure that you deserve it."
Ace woke the next morning on the mattress that she kept in her lab for late night work, alone. Except for a letter propped up on a steaming cup of coffee on her desk. Her name was written on the front, with the date—February 14th 5758—in a less than delicate script.
Fetching both the coffee and the letter, Ace settled back under her blankets and pried the letter open with her thumbnail.

Advancer Culture: Underground and Surface
Continuing our sharing of PerLa, here's more on the ill-fated Advancers. Colored text for ease of distinction.
The Advancers could easily be divided into those who lived and worked on the surface, and those who lived and worked underground.
Surface dwellers’ names were tied to their occupations, while subterranean dwellers employed more location-based names. (This latter group is where Drebyl derived their naming schemes, while the former inspired the Syrel’s names.) This means that surface Advancers were used to changing their names often, employing new titles with every shift in occupation, while those below the ground held their names close as a reminder of where they had come from, or somewhere special.
For example, something like "Wires Well, Neatly Binds" would have been a surface name for someone in charge of cable management, while "Ricochet from the Red River" would have been a subterranean individual with ties to an iron-rich waterway. These names were often self determined and/or given as a sign of respect and recognition.
Surface work was about as varied as you can imagine; construction, cooking, transportation and delivery, managing communications and information systems, agriculture, maintenance, etc. You get the idea, running a society.

Those who lived and worked underground mainly operated drills, harvested subterranean plants/fungi, monitored organisms for potential biotechnological applications, and constructed tunnels, stations, and dwellings. A subway network was in the works, but has long since decayed. Nowadays the reinforced tunnels are a convenient travel space for any creatures passing through.

Neither group was bound to their respective realm. An Advancer could have easily worked a few years underground and decided they liked it better up-top, and vice versa. A name change wasn't necessary to facilitate that.
...We'd like to cover wyverns next! They've been weirdly constant throughout this world's many iterations. It's been fun picking out oldish art to share details through.

[An elaboration in reference to my headcanons here]
Based on a general observation, apart from the Vidyadhara, most users of powers seem to use a tangible object as a conduit [Eg: Welt with his cane, Qingque with her mahjong tiles etc].
According to this theory, there are practical reasons as to why Kafka is capable of using that many weapons.
Her methods of assassination (causing bloodbaths ahem) primarily lies in disarming others with spirit whisper, psychologically suppressing them for a time and then using her weapons to end them or have them end one another.
While her short term spirit whisper causes a slight discomfort to non-awareness in her application on others, longer more permanent suppression is extremely uncomfortable. Those subjected to that would feel momentarily blinding fear of their own helplessness and the sensation of being restricted by chains leashing them in place, unable to do anything but take a back seat, fully conscious while they're made to slaughter their companions.
It is this violence that mara symptoms are drawn to, whispered in a voice that gentle. Hence, when she uses spirit whisper on the mara-struck like Blade, it binds only the mara to buy him more time. Under her directions, she can encourage the swordsman to better bind and separate his consciousness from memories and mara's influence by sealing it away temporarily.
Kafka's gloves are created with special components to make them resistant to most things. The silver rings contain coiled piano (steel) wires that can be ejected at high pressure to form temporary 'webs' and 'nets'. On their own, they are sharp enough to cut. But when further infused with lightning, they generate a shock so powerful that it not only kills those trapped within it but also melts the wires from the heat generated, thereby making them fragile.
Aside from the wires, Kafka is also able to channel lightning energy through her sword and unleash bursts from there.
