Margaret Atwood ... need I say more? Like so many people, I'm reading and re-reading the books of her that I have, and listening to audiobooks of her works and interviews with the woman herself. The word prescience says it all. We live in interesting/extraordinary times.

I've been wandering through my garden and gazing (as I often do) at the dead leaves. Makes me think of Autumn even though we're in June (Osborne). The thoughts in my head are as plentiful as the dead leaves ... they're scattered at the best of times, but currently it's like having an oversized puppy running through them. Concentration is evasive.

I sit down here each day without a clue where the words are going to head. All I know is that there's an empty page to be faced. I love snow scenes and the sight of snow without footprints ... but ... an empty page? It's the same kind of atmosphere, but with an expectation that something should happen ... as opposed to the snow scene, where the cessation of human action is key.

I don't know about you, but I have a habit of picking words apart. This happens when I'm writing stuff and when I'm trying to listen to someone. Can't help but wonder about words like 'extraordinary' and 'prescience.' I understand the meanings all too well ... still can't help but question their make up.

Extra ... ordinary. How in the world does that mean something is beyond the ordinary, or is exceptional? If something is doubly ordinary, then surely it's the reason for so many colours of beige paint to choose from. ;-)

Pre ... science. Foreknowledge of events. Really? My head takes this to a time before science ... to a world that the lunatics who've taken over the asylum want to take us back to. Medieval thoughts come to mind. Plants in my garden such as liverwort ... the assumption that as its shape looked a little like the liver, it would have curative properties for it. In reality, it's their collection and retention of water capabilities that is good for helping with erosion along riverbanks. I have a lot of pots where plants have died due to water-logging and the liverwort has taken over the soil ... not surprising considering the amount of rainfall on the Emerald Isle ... or, could it be that it's stemming the tide of some as yet unseen hidden portal deluge? ;-D

Enough of that for now. It's time for breakfast ... and yes, I'll be listening to more of Margaret. What a wonderful mind that woman has! Monday, Monday, Monday and the cranial puppy is still running rampant through the leaves inside my head ...
