It’s Long Covid Awareness Day 🩵
This was worn way back on Dec. 5 in response to the creativity prompt “soft.” Some looks from last week’s Autumn/Winter Paris Fashion Week reminded me of it.
The creativity challenge I was participating in was from a FB group called “Long Covid & ME/CFS Healing Through Creativity.” Most of the people are painters, photographers, fiber artists, or writers. Their art is soooo goood🩷
A lot of the pieces that resonate with me depict the mourning of our old selves and the acceptance of our new lives.
My new life is a very sedentary one.

The temps are back to normal here in central California (67 degrees), and I had to dress up for my nephew's in-laws' baptism this past weekend. My brother-in-law wanted us to dress formally for the pictures afterward, so I donned this double-breasted suit from Suit Supply. It's not all the way formal due to the patch pockets and the overall soft nature of it, but the fact that it's a DB and a navy blue puts it in the mix. I decided to ride the conservative middle ground with these tasseled loafers from Crockett and Jones. I have always been ambivalent about this suit as well for several reasons. First off, the length. The jacket clocks in at 31.2 inches (as mentioned before, I usually like it to be 32 inches), and the patch pocket on a formal suit. I initially purchased it as a blazer to dress down but bought the accompanying pants a couple of years later to wear together and apart. It does drape well and is not God-awful tight like the average Suit Supply suits these days. I would wear this same look (with a solid shirt), to a semi-formal wedding as well, and in this, the versatility of a blue suit can be seen. The tie is a grenadine from Drakes, the shirt is an MTO from Proper Cloth, and the pocket square is from Battisti Napoli.

My 1992 New Year’s Eve Sweater
I’ve always loved this sweater I bought new from Express in 1992. I was compelled to wear it last night because I was reminiscing about past NYE outfits and I remembered how this sweater contains multitudes.
In 1992 I was glumly looking at being alone on New Year’s Eve, but then my friend Andrea invited me out. Her husband Shaun was a drummer and had a gig with a country band at a bar somewhere in Kentucky.
I remember being really pleased with how I wore this sweater as a dress, with those super-shiny gold tights and some metallic pewter Nina mules with kitten heels.
The band played an awesome cover of Suspicious Minds and I danced joyfully. The blond woman approached me and said “That’s my brother Corky over there. He just got divorced and he would love to dance with you.” We did, and then we took a picture. I have no idea what happened to Corky but he made it a great New years Eve!
And now I love looking at the first picture and imagining the convo between 25-year-old me and 57-year-old me.
FYI I didn’t go anywhere but Chipotle last night.

When the cooler weather starts, you can break out the three-piece suit you have not worn in almost 3 years and it still fits..I don't get to dress up as much anymore. So when I get the opportunity to I go for the kill.. this was inspired by Ari Gold from the show Entourage.. I remember watching this show in the mid-2000s while working in finance and being blown away by his powerful three-piece suits..20 years later and the three-piece suit is still a statement maker.. a bonus when you can find one to fit a 6"8 frame. Thanks Tom Ford!
