Regina Johnson, 32 (USA 2003)

It was September 18, 2003. Regina Johnson was in the first trimester of her fourth pregnancy. She went to abortionist Abraham Alberto Hodari, who for some reason was allowed to continue his abortion business even though he killed 16-year-old Chivon Williams a few years before. Going to his abortion facility would prove to be a fatal mistake.

At the abortion facility ironically called Womancare, Regina was given 200 mg of Diprivan, 2 mg Fentanyl, .2mg Gylcopyrrolate and an unknown dosage of Droperidol for the abortion. After the abortion, she was left in the recovery room.

The so-called recovery room was completely unfit for a client’s actual post-operation recovery. It was not equipped with an EKG monitor, pulse oximeter, or automatic blood pressure/pulse monitor with alarm for monitoring patients. There was no oxygen, defibrillator, or other resuscitation equipment.

Nurse Lichtig recorded Regina's blood pressure and pulse upon admission to recovery and at 10 - 15 minute intervals. At 10:05, Regina's blood pressure and pulse were a normal 116/72 and 82. At 10:15, they were 108/56 and 88. This combination of a fall in blood pressure and rise in pulse is a classic early sign of life-threatening complications.

The document notes that Lichtig was actually performing above the facility’s requirements: Womancare’s protocol only required her to check a patient's vitals upon arrival in recovery, at 15 minues, and at discharge, usually after about an hour in recovery. Hodari's protocol also allowed for the nurse to discharge patients from the facility. There was no provision for clients to be seen by a doctor once they was transferred to the recovery room.

At 10:30, Nurse Lichtig tried and failed to wake up Regina. Instead of immediately getting help, she continued trying to wake her up for 10 minutes. After that, Regina had no detectable pulse.

911 was not called until 20 minutes after Regina had no detectable heartbeat. The ambulance took her to the hospital where after CPR Regina had a pulse again. She was put on life support, but it was removed after Regina was discovered to be brain-dead. An autopsy verified that Regina died from anoxic encephalopathy due to cardiac arrest. In other words, she died because her brain was deprived of oxygen.

The Administrative Complaint found the abortionist to be “negligent, incompetent, and lacking in good moral character.” Hodari did not contest the findings, instead cooperating with bringing his facility up to standards to pass an inspection by an anesthesiologist in February of 2009. But in the meantime, he killed 15-year-old Tamiia Russell, who was forced to undergo an abortion at the request of the pedophile who impregnated her.

The state Attorney General's office fined Hodari $10,000 for his part in the death. Apparently that’s all Regina’s life was worth to them.

Regina, Tamiia and Chivon —and their children— deserved better.
