imagine being scotty in tos. every day your friend group goes on dangerous yet exciting adventures to new planets but you can never go because they always make you babysit the ship. also you have to stay on facetime with them the whole time in case they need a lift. you are the eternal designated driver. the seventh wheel. you dont mind as much as you should though because you sort of want to fuck the ship

Understanding in 1x02 vs 4x03:
*deep breath*
Early on, this is what Shiv sees:
This is what she doesn’t see:
Kendall is cornered into talking about the business. Wordlessly, gently threatened into it when he said he didn’t want to right now. Gerri and Karl aren't in mourning. They are doing their jobs, and they’re testing him to see if he can do his. If he said no and walked away, the company would be taken out of family control, Logan would be furious, and he'd lose out on his dream forever.
Shiv sees none of that happen, and Kendall doesn't even tell her about it- maybe because he thinks she wouldn't listen, maybe because she said she thinks he’s weak already, or maybe because he just almost never defends himself in general. But she can’t see his perspective without knowing what happened.
The lack of understanding between them results in this disaster:
She thinks he’s being cold by talking to the nominating committee, but we see how he really feels. He just always turns to reason and order in times of crisis and she doesn’t really know that.
He has not forgotten this conversation or Shiv’s perception of him here. He doesn’t want that:
Shiv’s been inside Waystar now. She knows now that talking business for a minute during a dark time doesn’t mean you don’t care. In fact, she did it while Kendall was confessing his worst moment, but it didn’t mean she loves him less. She knows him better now and has seen that he’s anything but emotionless. No one criticizes him for turning to reason and order this time. They ask for it.
No matter what happens, he won’t forget this nice conversation either. He won’t forget that his siblings finally see him the way he’s always hoped they would: as the big brother who can make hard decisions in seemingly impossible moments. He’s the one who can shepherd them through it. There’s trust there now and they finally know how it feels. The door will be open for togetherness now, even if it looks like it might close for a while. It’s not that they changed as people, it’s that they’ve learned how to read each other.
Not seeing each other’s perspectives led to having to be alone:
Now, it seems, even though they will struggle for a while, they have an understanding.

I love Trucy so much but I’m just thinking about her and Phoenix’s first couple of months living together
Trucy moves so silently (“she’s like… the twins from that scary movie”), so Phoenix either has his eye on her constantly so she won’t get into trouble (or hurt herself) or
“Hello Daddy.”
SHIT— has to restraint himself from flinging what he’s holding into the nearest wall, “o-oh! Hey Trucy!”
Staring at him with her All Seeing Eyes, “do you want to see something cool.”
Oh— oh god please don’t let it be a body. Do we have mice? Did she catch a mouse??? “Oh, yeah, sure thing kiddo.”
Tenderly takes him by the hand and pulls him into her room, “I organized all my socks by color.”
“…oh. Wow. Cool!”
“I also organized all my construction paper by color but that seemed less important at the time”
“Uh-…huh”
AND AN ASIDE I THINK ITS VERY IMPORTANT that Phoenix takes EVERYTHING IN STRIDE, like yessss king, water off a ducks back, this is your child now

I honestly think the qsmp needs to get itself a team of beta testers for big events like this. The concept of this event is great! The execution is… flawed. Very flawed.
(Small rant from a game design major as the purgatory event has been causing my literal psychic damage)
The map is too big and there are no means of efficient transportation. More than half of everyone’s streams are spent traveling alone across the same terrain over and over and over again. A majority of bbh’s stream today was him walking around just trying to reach places. It takes 30 minutes to reach the center for contract quests. It takes 30 minutes to reach red or green’s base. It takes 30 minutes going home from any of these locations. A single trip to the center and back takes an hour.
Beds don’t reset your spawn. When you die - which happens quite often on a PVP server especially when the mobs are buffed - it’s extremely boring and irritating having to farm water bottles and food so you don’t die on your 30 minute walk across the map just to collect your gear. (Not to mention blue teams spawn is a literal death trap hell scape and it take 5+ minutes just to reach their base)
Limited time to play. The five hour limit is horrible especially when everyone is spending so much time traveling. If they had an efficient method of transportation this wouldn’t be so much of an issue. It’s a massive restriction for players who live the grind and this could have been accounted for in team balancing - making sure every team has an equal amount of grinders.
The rules on how to score points are vague and keep changing. This is something that should have been figured out through beta testing. That is literally what beta testing is for. Tomorrow will be day 4 out of fourteen - almost a quarter through the event - and the admins are probably gonna make even more tweaks to the rules. I appreciate that they are trying to make this work and are listening to cc feedback but they should have figured out all of the balancing issues before the event began. Constantly changing the rules and trying to balance it on the fly erases the legitimacy of the competition itself. No one can come up with consistent strategies and wins with previous rules feel cheap especially if they were cheesed wins. Additionally the scoring needs to be clearly explained so the ccs know how to strategize properly to actually play the game otherwise they are playing chess when they thought they were playing checkers.
Idk if the qsmp has a team of beta testers but if they do, then they need to expand the team or give the testers more time to work out the kinks for these events. It’s clearly frustrating for the audience and the ccs. I know the admins are doing their best with what they have - which is why they need something more. Either someone experienced with game design or a (better) beta testing team.

No I CANT stop making connections between everything, between real life and silly little video games and books and god and philosophy and everything. Yes it's a pepe silva red string board but it is not despair or paranoia, it is borne out of elation and love and joy and /hunger/ for this unnameable, unknowable, inexorable thing that even the absolute emotional extremes of the human soul can only begin to approach, can only be a pale shadowy imitation of.
And it's just! How could I stop that? Why would I ever stop that? There is so much wrong with me and my brain and everything of my existence, this is the one thing I am infinitely grateful for, that this heart and connection, that these come so easily to me, that amongst the tangled threads of my mind these connections click, and the simplest things are only ever a small step away from the deepest profundities.
"It's all connected" not as a paranoid accusation, but as a cry of joy and elation!
