Peek-a-boo. I walked past this same log the other day and it reminded me of this precious moment where I'd photographed a stoat. I'd seen it run across this fallen log out of the corner of my eye from some 50 yards away. It then dived into a hole in the log. I got myself as close to the log as I could and held my lens in place because I knew that the slightest bit of movement would scare it off. So, an hour and a half had passed and I was still holding a large wildlife lens in place when suddenly this little beauty appears from behind the log. After around 15 seconds it darted into the undergrowth and I could finally lower my arms 😂 I was in so much pain from holding for the shot, but that was trounced by the absolute delight I felt in capturing this beautiful stoat. I couldn't believe I'd been there for an hour and a half, stood like a statue waiting for this special moment which eventually came. They might not even get in their boats if they see a hare on the way to them. Miners similarly will not set foot in the mine shaft if they encounter a hare on the way to work.⁣ Fox:⁣ The fox is represented in folklore as a trickster. One of Aesop’s Fables “The Fox and the Crow” illustrates this. It is a caution against listening to flatterers and goes like this….. The fox notices that a crow has a piece of cheese, he flatters the crow, telling him how beautiful he is and whether he has a beautiful voice to match his beautiful looks. The crow lest out a caw, the piece of cheese falls to the ground the fox eats the cheese. The earliest surviving versions of the fable, in both Greek and Latin, date from the 1st century.en older Celtic.⁣ Owl:⁣ So When and how did the owl become wise? Athena, The Greek Goddess of Wisdom is responsible. The greek goddess took the little owl and used him for her symbol. Did she take the owl as her symbol because in ancient Greece it represented the wise? Or was it because Athena was the goddess wisdom that the owl became wise by association?⁣ Robin:⁣ Robins are familiar to many people simply because they are happy living in close proximity to human beings. For anyone who has recently dug their flower beds over, no doubt you spotted a robin close by, monitoring proceedings. In fact it is said that they have nested in a lovers unmade bed while the couple had breakfast. Apparently a pair nested in a hole made by a cannon ball in the mizzen mast of HMS Victory!⁣ ....
