Yuki Kadota Reveals Woopatchi was Created from Overseas Sales Team Member
In the recent Nikkei MJ’s Tamagotchi in 100 Countries article, there was a little gem that you might have looked over! Recently the translated version was provided to us, so now is a good time to read it over in English like we did!
Yuki Kadota, Bandai’s Global Toy Planning Department comments on several things include the popualirty of the Tamagotchi Original in the Western market, the excitement of the Tamagotchi Uni, and how truly unites people from around the globe, and the origin of Woopatchi!
That’s right, the fan favorite character that premiered on the Tamagotchi Uni, Woopatchi was actually created by a member of their overseas sales team. How awesome is that? They were invited from overseas to help develop the new character!
There’s so much to like about the Tamagotchi Uni! The design and colors of the unit itself are WAY more appealing in person. The menus are snappy and the buttons are satisfying to click. The screen is wonderful and the colors pop (though easily scratched), the animations are top notch and there’s generally plenty to do with your Tama! The accessories are great, the personalities add a touch of flavor, and the selection of adult Tamas is exciting!!
However, I’m still so, so let down by the lack of Wi-Fi support. All Wi-Fi does is allow you to download updates and input codes. I’m unsure if the Uni even connects to Wi-Fi when hopping into the Tamaverse. Not being able to propose, share gifts, or just visit one another’s Tamas on the Uni online is such a missed opportunity. It’s a robust single player experience to be sure, but unless you have pals around with a Uni, the Uni could have been so, so much more.
