Where the Dream Begins

Happy 3rd year anniversary of the Word of Honor table read! It's still May 28 here in the US, so I'm not too late to post!

This wonderful fig set was inspired, of course, by the May 28, 2020 table read of the Episode 3 face-touching scene:

Here's a screenshot I managed to grab (after, uh, multiple tries):

On to the figs! This is a multi-part set. We get the two figs, two chairs, two script books, and a blue table. All I need to buy is some water bottles!

The chairs are very lightweight, and I was worried at first they wouldn't be able to hold up the weight of the figs properly. But they work great. Quality fig engineering here! They feel very stable on all four feet of each chair, which, I don't know about you, is more than I can say for many chairs I've sat in.

And a shot of the same items all upside down. The table too is very level and smooth, with no warping or misalignment. Really well done!

I'm going to do two separate 360-degree pic runs - first, just the figures in their chairs, so you can see all the individual details. Then, I'll do the whole set. Bear with me, I tried to keep the positions the same as I slowly rotated two figs with two chairs. I should really buy a turntable!

They're so cute! I love the details of Junjun's hair poking out of the back of his baseball cap, and the moon and stars in each other's eyes. Just delightful.

I’m procrastinating work, so here’s a non-exhaustive list of some Really Gay details and bts-leaks in Word of Honor that newer fans might not be aware of 🌈🌈🌈 Some footage is not linked because they’re leaks that the ops asked to not be reposted and/or the footage has been taken down (or I’ve just lost it), but I promise all of these are confirmed.

The poetry Wen Kexing recites as Zhou Zishu rides away on the boat in ep.2 was written by a man about his favourite courtesan

The slutty little hand caress when Zhou Zishu takes the wine from Wen Kexing in ep.3 was Zhang Zhehan’s suggestion

Wen Kexing’s original line when he was telling Zhou Zishu what the Drunk Like a Dream made him see was that he had seen himself and “the person in his heart” having sex on their wedding night. Also Wen Kexing leaning in and covering them with the fan while saying this was Zhang Zhehan’s suggestion

The full cut of the poison-sucking scene includes lips touching skin

The original script included Wen Kexing trying to get Zhou Zishu to admit he’s attractive

A scene was filmed where Wen Kexing sings the “只愿君心似我心，定不负相思意” (“As long as your heart is as mine is, these feelings will not be in vain”) line from the novel to Zhou Zishu

In ep.18, Wen Kexing calls Zhou Zishu “Husband Zhou”. What’s more, the full quote is from a very erotic classic novel where it then leads into a sex scene

Many people have commented that the rolling-in-the-grass scene in ep.18 can be read as a sex allegory. Note that this is also the scene where Zhou Zishu cuts Wen Kexing’s sleeve 😏

The hug scene in ep.20 also included Zhou Zishu pressing their foreheads together (we’ve had like five different leaks of this by now lol)

The original take of the “live or die together” scene (I hope everyone knows this one by now)

Ever notice the very sudden cut in ep.31? It seems the director called cut because it looked like Zhang Zhehan was about to go in for a kiss.

The full cut of the scene where Wen Kexing falls off the cliffs had Zhou Zishu smile before jumping after him

The original cut of the “there’s a light on you” scene had Zhou Zishu catch Wen Kexing’s hand

Some of the “random” seal script characters floating around during the dual cultivation scene are “cauldron” (used in some danmei wuxia as an allegory for bottoming, interchangable with furnace) and “birth”. Make of that what you will.

The final scene in ep.36 was completely changed in the dubbing. The real dialogue (figured out through lipreading) had Chengling say that when two people “who fully recognize each other as zhiji and who truly love each other” practice the Combined Six Cultivations Art, they’ll be able to hold each other in balance and support each other through the hardest parts (aka how Wen Kexing survived)

A “bad end” version of the epilogue was filmed. It’s a bit devastating.

Bonus non-wenzhou one: Xie’er’s original line (figured out through lipreading) after he kills the disciple in the bamboo forest is “The one at his [Zhao Jing’s] pillow will be me.”

What Head?

I really love Word of Honor behind the scenes figs - they are such a particularly fun blend of Junzhe with our beloved Wenzhou.

This fig set was inspired by this exact behind-the-scenes footage:

Yep, Zhehan being, well, Zhehan! I love how playful and expressive he is! The actual name of this fig set is from some laughing and joking around between the two of them.

The classic head-in-hands in the background makes me laugh every time! You can see him in the video that he's not that done with it!

Cuuuuuuuute.

These figs arrived safely in their polystyrene protective cut outs. Good thing too, you'll notice Lao Wen's hairpin is pretty delicate looking!

Lao Wen's fan arrived as a separate piece - I should have taken it out of the plastic so it'd be easier to see! The glare from the window makes it difficult.

You can see here where his hands are cupped in a salute and where the fan would fit. I just put a little bit of museum wax on it and fit it into his hands from the bottom.

And here it is! They really captured Zhehan's expression. Poor Gong Jun looks a little woebegone!

You can see the tie detail here on Zhehan's rough prison robe, as well as the beautiful detail on Gong Jun's luxurious red rescue set.

Ah ha! Here we have the head pat. I like the dimensionality of Zhehan's little scarf thing here, as well as the modeling of Gong Jun's hair.

Zhehan stands beautifully on his nice wide boots. These are probably the largest fig feet get (or at least that I've seen). He's very stable! Gong Jun is of course even more so, as the robes behind him hold him perfectly (crouched) upright.

I like the kind of mottling they did on Zhehan's robe - really plays up hint of roughness and texture. They also modeled the slashes of blood from the whip just so!

One more angle here from the side - they did such a nice job making these detailed but not excessively so.

I love this top-down shot! It's also a nice view of Lao Wen's hairpin.

And a shot from the other side for completeness. I like how they modeled another layer of robes inside Zhehan's sleeve - a really nice touch.

A little close up detail of the hair here. I actually (like many people) like Zhehan's comparatively messy or rather, slightly undone hair in this episode.

One more close up of the fan so you can see the detail a little better.

Beautifully detailed underside here - you can see the modeling care taken on his pants, and the bend in his shoe for his back leg. I really, really love hidden touches like this! It shows the care put into this fig.

A very sweet box card. The box itself was just a plain white box.

If you recall from the previous posts in this series, all of these have optional plastic puzzle pieces that form a larger artwork. Here's the one that went with this set.
