From Broke to Booked: Being a Self-Taught Braider 💆🏽‍♀️

Yall, I am still shook from hosting my own lecture-demo this past weekend. After months of prep (think 46 slides!) I did a 2 hour workshop on Black Hair History, science and BRAIDING! (Under-hand and cornrows 😭) Had to workshop it a couple times & take a 12 hr train ride, but seeing the smiles & the engagement was downright magical ✨

This journeys been WILD.

A few years ago when I was living in New Orleans a month bus pass felt like a luxury. Fast forward to today as a self-taught braider in Orange County and I made half my rent in that 2 hour workshop. God is faithful! 🙌🏾

Building a business from the ground up is quite a ride but moments like this remind me why I do it. Empowering families, and people of all ages to embrace and appreciate black hair culture.

christmas came early bc after months of rejections

i finally got funding/call backs from 2 local universities

that want me to come and give a presentation about black hair

This new white man at work seems really nice or whatever… my ONLY issue but not really a ISSUE is that he feels the need to touch me 🥴😂 my first day meeting him (two weeks ago) we were talking about him moving here with his wife, our sleep schedules, blah blah. So he was getting ready to leave and told me to make sure I got some sleep, then proceeds to rub my back 👀😂 soo today when I saw him I was eating lunch and he came up and spoke. Then proceeded to rub my shoulder…. Sir what’s going on here? 😂😂 maybe it’s his way of being friendly idkkk, but this is VERY new to me lol

I was complaining to my coworker about how we shouldn't have to pay for things necessary for survival, and if we didn't have to we'd only have to pay for things we want to have/do. And in response she went life's hard, but she sounded like she just now realized that

It was funny but I honestly feel kinda bad about it
