one has to wonder if the workcomp cost of my mri and subsequent physical therapy and a double spinal steroid injection was somehow less than the cost of shipping LTL refrigerated Express internationally
if i called would pam even remember eight years ago. would she be able to tell me why. or did someone else make the decision she only executed. did they choose that method because if the contractor got hurt the contractor's work comp insurance would pay? maybe they didn't lose a cent or a wink of sleep
(i don't hate her. i can't hate her. i can still hear her singing quietly from the other side of the cubicle. she was only ever kind to me. but) decisions were made somewhere in that mess of bureaucracy that directly led to the impairment of my spine and i need to trace back the root fault
even then i don't think I'll feel any closure because at the end of the day it's ice cold corporate callousness no matter who is at the helm
the corporation is a beast unto itself and people willingly chain themselves into the musculature, become its teeth and claws and stomach. and what was i but a nourishing morsel

Upon being injured at work - do you know what to do?
In Virginia, you should immediately notify your immediate supervisor, seek medical treatment, prepare a first report of accident as soon as possible, file a claim for benefits with the Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission.
Be certain to ask for a "panel of physicians" from your employer with three (3) valid choices of doctors to treat your injuries.
Do not agree to allow the employer to "pay for" your injury without filing for workers' compensation.
Need help? CALL. (276) 522-1220 or 888-374-5078. THE RATLIFF LAW FIRM. We know Virginia workers' comp.

New Labor Laws in California | Workers' Compensation Requirements in California 2020
New Labor Laws and Workers' Compensation in California New labor laws that seek to provide wage and benefit protections to workers are set to come in effect in California from January 1, 2020. Now is the time to ensure your company is compliant with the law with regards to employing workers as employees, and having workers' compensation insurance in place.
Employees are your most valuable asset, and you can protect them and your business with Workers Compensation Insurance (workers comp), in meeting California legal requirements.
Who does the Labor Law cover
The new labor law is set to take effect January 1, 2020 and makes it more difficult for companies to classify staff as independent contractors instead of employees. Companies will be required to employ workers as employees, with employees entitled to minimum wage and benefits such as workers' compensation.
The law will affect most industries including trucking and transportation, construction workers, janitors, health assistants, teachers, hairstylists, beauticians and most workers in the service industry.
In particular the new law has been a lot of attention with its effect on transportation, trucking, ridesharing and meal delivery drivers,  due to those companies those companies paying their drivers on a per-ride basis and/or not providing benefits such as health insurance and paid leave.
What does Workers Compensation Insurance cover?
- Workers Comp covers injuries in the workplace and while workers are commuting to and from work. For Example, if an employee is injured while lifting inventory.
- Workers Comp covers employees while driving to and from their work. For example, if an employee gets in an accident while driving to work.
Who requires Workers' Compensation
Basically any entity that is employing staff as an employee, not as a contractor, is required to provide benefits such as workers compensation.
Difference between Employees and Contractors
An employee, is any worker that has a manager or boss who exercises control over the worker.
On the other hand, to be classed as a contractor, a worker must be free from control of the entity, performing work outside the usual course of the hiring entity's business, and engaged in an independently established trade, occupation or business of the same nature as the work they are performing.
Categories specifically exempted under the law amount only to about 10 percent of the workforce, such as highly paid professionals including doctors and dentists, lawyers, accountants and real estate agents.
Ramifications of new Labor Laws concerning Workers' Compensation
It is estimated that the new law requirements could apply to a majority of current independent contractors, including truck drivers, delivery drivers and taxi drivers, janitors and maids, retail workers, grounds maintenance workers and childcare workers, having to be re-classified as employees instead of independent contractors. Unless certain strict criteria are met, this is would also include construction workers, hairdressers and barbers, designers and other artists, fitness personal trainers and sales representatives.
Who does Workers Compensation protect
-Workers Comp protects both employees and employers from the financial effects of work related injuries.
Workers Comp
Workers Compensation Insurance is also know as Workers Comp.
How does Workers Compensation protect employees?
- Workers Comp provides benefits for work related injury or illness
- Workers Comp pays employees' medical expenses
- Workers Comp helps to replace lost pay while out of work or disabled for a period of time
How does Workers Compensation protect employers?
- When an injured worker obtains Workers Compensation benefits they cannot sue the employer for damages
Workers Compensation Coverage for Sole Proprietors
Even if you are a Sole Proprietor with no employees, there are many good reason to buy Workers Compensation, as it can cover your own medical expenses and lost income while recovering.
Workers Compensation benefits for Sole Proprietors
- Workers Comp covers medical expenses
- Workers Comp covers lost income.

,,, I know it's an extra expense when you're a small business, but please, if you're going to elect not to have workmans compensation insurance, don't complain to me that medical bills are expensive. They're expensive because hospitals have contracts with insurance companies that give them massive discounts in exchange for customers, so they pump up the prices just to make profit after those discounts. This is a choice you made. Pay the bills or get insurance. ʕノ•ᴥ•ʔノ ︵ ┻━┻

Worker's compensation basics: Report work-related injury within 45 days in Illinois; three-year time deadline to file a case. Importance of documenting and treating every injured body part thoroughly. Risk of incomplete documentation leading to difficulties in case valuation and treatment. Emphasizing the need for patients to communicate every injured body part to medical professionals. The standard process for evaluating and settling worker's compensation cases remains similar whether one or multiple body parts are injured.

god one of my guys might've pulled a muscle in his back and i was like "you need to go get that checked out if it doesn't start feeling better in the next day or two" and he was like "but i don't want to miss any days when i'm this close to getting promoted" and i literally had to haul him into the back and be like "i'm not officially saying this???? but as someone who had that same attitude when i got hurt and is now crippled for life because of it: it is NOT worth it. if you need to go to the doctor, you go to the fucking doctor." and god i fucking hate capitalism for encouraging us to not seek help for injuries.
