Refugees, much like ourselves, possess dreams and aspirations, but their lives have been intertwined with an overwhelming global crisis through the hand of fate. It is essential that we refuse to discriminate against them, and instead, shower them with the love and compassion they truly deserve.

#WorldRefugeeDay Photos From My Time Volunteering in a Laotian Refugee Camp - 1980 🌏🌏🌏🌏🌏🌏🌏🌏🌏🌏🌏🌏🌏🌏 Some of my students at the Laotian Refugee Camp in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand in 1980. In 1980 I volunteered to work as an English As A Second Language Teacher at a Laotian Refugee Camp in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand. I shared many of these images in a blog post. Since then I have received two dozen comments from refugees and children of refugees who went through this refugee camp and are now resettled in various countries around the world. I know how important it is to welcome refugees. People fleeing war, violence and natural disasters deserve a new home. I know the world can help, all that’s needed is the commitment of countries and non-profit agencies. World Refugee Day

1. This week Monday:

was World Refugee Day. Ukraine has reminded us that the greatest determinant of whether you will be a refugee is where you live. Nothing - not being a highly-trained professional or having loads of money or a close-knit family - can insulate you from becoming displaced in the event of a local conflict.

If bombs were to relentless fall in your neighborhood today, you would leave for a safer area and become a refugee too. How we think about refugees matters. Their voices ought to shape how we understand them. These resources have helped us become more empathetic. I hope they do the same for you.

Next week I will be on vacation, but our annual journal should start to arrive in your mailboxes, 160 pages of goodness. Please write and let me know what you think. Happy June,
