Turning
Performance Art conceived and executed by Valerie K Sharp; Film, Sound, and Editing by Fred Hatt
Filmed at Rosekill Farm
Rosendale NY, 2018
“Turning” is a meditative collection of artistic actions performed for film, tuning into the essence of each season in the same landscape (Rosekill Farm, Rosendale NY) through the textures and sounds of nature and the relationship of the artist to the land. The performer becomes a part of the cycles and changes of the landscape through symbolic caretaking, illustrating an isolation in self reflection, with nature as a mirror to the inner self. The actions are soft but powerful, celebrating femininity, and capturing the magical connection of spirit to nature.

Youth, Oil on Canvas by Valerie K Sharp, 30” x 24”
Featured in Theatre-Related Artwork - Solo Exhibition at Oklahoma Shakespeare on Paseo, September 2014
Theatre Description:
I have been working to gain experience in a contemporary theatrical form  called devised theatre that is imaginative and multidisciplinary. Devised theatre is experimental and collaborative by nature. It spans artistic disciplines, using  the varied skills of an ensemble of artists culminating in one unified performance. Each collaborator has special areas of interest and experience, such as music composition, writing, choreography, etc. I specifically focus on directing and integrating visual art into theatrical productions.
Painting Artist Statement:
I am presenting the emotion and self-examination when a person is at their most vulnerable. The characters in the pieces are exposed, revealing their states of mind during dynamic, climactic situations. Using aggressive application of color, the inner turmoil emerges from the private moments of the characters. The paintings become energetic presences in order to boldly confront the passionate complexity of human nature and relationships.

Cascando by Samuel Beckett
Directed by Valerie K Sharp, Starring Michael Spegar and Jeremy Sheets
Oklahoma City University, April 2014
There is a certain amount of care and specificity required for putting on a Beckett play. I do not wish to impose anything new onto the text. All choices have been made in honor of the playwright's wishes, within the requirements of the space, and considering the challenge of staging a radio play.
