My Story Building Method

Some writers can take a piece of paper and draw a plot line on it and fit in every detail of their prospective story on this line. If only I had this degree of organization! I have to get some idea of what I want to write about, of course- maybe cluster a few ideas together for me to launch into the thing. That is the extent of my story conception. I have to get into it and then see where it goes. In truth, if I knew every detail of the story I was about to write, I probably wouldn't bother writing it. This writing thing for me has to be fun, and fun is finding new things, uncovering hidden treasures of ideas, and being surprised by what comes “down the chute”. After all, I mentioned in one of my first blogs that I started doing this for a relief from boredom. Knowing everything that is happening or is going to happen might be good for feelings of security, but, let's face it; it would be boring as hell. I used to dig in old dumps for bottles when I was a kid. It was fun because I was grubbing around in the dirt for something of value, when there was no guarantee that I would find anything. It was a form of prospecting. The real fun starts when a scrape in the wall of the pit you dug reveals the base of a bottle you recognize as potentially valuable. Maybe it is a first glimpse of a cobalt blue bottle. Cobalt blue is often used for poison bottles and nearly all of them are worth big bucks. Maybe the base has that scar of glass in the center. This means that it is a hand made bottle at least as old as the Civil War era. Again, big bucks. Admittedly, most often the prize turns out to be something less hot, or you tug on the bottle to find out it is only half a bottle. It's the same with thoughts. A lot of them turn out to be emotionally flat, or something that seems good in the moment, but turn out to block a better idea formed later. Then you are faced with canning a few thousand previously inspired words in order to follow the new direction the story is heading. I don't lament this overmuch. I use cut to remove the stuff that's not working, but then I paste it into a catchall folder, just in case it turns out to be useful some place else. My neighbor used to save the plastic bags from inside the cereal boxes. I do the same thing with swatches of paragraphs and phrases. My patchwork method may not be efficient, but if I sew together enough swatches of the right material in the right shape in the right place, I end up with a full-size garment. I have five of them in my closet. Why not try one of them on? Read the full article

@veschwab recently mentioned that her writing process was more like puzzle pieces than straight lines, this is a perfect description of my own writing method...✍📚📖 Although I usually use the analogy of 'knitting pieces together' - but that could be the yarn lover in me...This week random scenes have fallen out of my head and onto paper -Additional scenes to a story which already has the basic, beginning-middle-end. This is how #Inherited was written and probably how every book I'll write will be created 😂🙈This weekend I plan to somehow take these fragments of a story and put them together to resemble a book. I know there are pieces missing, it's finding what they are and creating just the right one to make the final picture - (how many metaphors have I used In this caption?! Reviewing My Blog
When this blog was first started it was to not only inform readers of the society and writings around science fiction, but to inform the reader on different methods in which writing could be done. Personal Branding, and Writing Methods and Process are two blogs that were not only made for the read, but for me, the writer as well. This blog was about learning from mistakes and experiences, and also finding a niche that best fit my writing styles.
At the beginning I didn’t really understand formatting, or hyperlinking. I think the hardest thing for me was helping the reader connect with many of the sources I had. I didn’t want to make a large work cited at the bottom of my blog, but I also didn’t want to hyper link every other word with the information I had. I settled with only linking what I found to be necessary, or maybe something the reader would find interesting. As I carry on with this blog I don’t think I’ll be scared to share my hyperlinks anymore. I think I could be sharing more information, and more sources with every reader that comes to my blog.
I think extending my blog is something that needs work too. I think as I move this blog forward I will be making sure not to cut this blog too short. My main fear was creating a blog so long no one would want to read it. I think in the future it was be safe to at least add a few more paragraphs than I have been. Instead of 800 words maybe I could make it 1000.
There was a fun exciting aspect to this blog I didn’t think I would find. Although I don’t think it is my best blog, Females in Science Fiction, was one of my favorite blogs to write. I was able to focus on my real love, nerding out, while also bringing into view some key points of what it is like for females in this genera. I think if I were to write it again I would just add more information. I think it would have been best to take some statistics, find out how many female writers there are compared to male writers. I think it would have been good to expand on more ideas, like Robo Cop or Star Wars.
Another blog that was exciting to write was Writing Methods and Processes. I think I was able to learn a lot about my writing, and also about myself. I always find writer’s methods to be interesting, especially since some people have some very interesting methods to get their ideas onto paper. I think this is another blog I would have made longer, and the more that I think of this I feel as if it would do better as a video blog. With appropriate editing and a video personality this video blog could be humorous and informative.
I like to view my mistakes as learning opportunities when it comes to this blog. I have learned so much about what to do and what to expand on. I hope to continue this blog, expanding my ideas on not only writing, but also I the thing I love most, Science Fiction. I would love to expand on more Science Fiction based concepts. Not only looking at books and authors, but on movies and television shows as well.

(via How to be a Better Writer – Benjamin Franklin Method)
Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing. – Benjamin Franklin
We are all writer in some way or the other and writing is there as part of our living. It is reading and writing that is necessary at the basic level to be official termed as a literate. But it goes beyond the literacy to literature. The role of writing goes much deeper than just being a literate or getting educated means writing. The literature of writing changes the way we look at things and with that changes our outlook on life. There is a life we live without being having writing integrated into our life and there is a life that we live when we have writing as an integral part of life.
The role of writing in life has many dimensions to deal. We have to enrol ourselves. Writing make us think like a philosopher to search like an explorer to stitch up things like a weaver to treat us like a therapist and writing has therapeutic affect on us. We start to think better when we are writing. We work better when we are better thinker. We harness patience when we are writing and it augurs well for harboring peace of mind.
The next thing most like living one’s life over again seems to be a recollection of that life, and to make that recollection as durable as possible by putting it down in writing. – Benjamin Franklin

Writing Weirdly – When You aren’t exactly a plotser or a pantser
While I was at Vermont College my first semester, one of the teachers, Alison McGhee, mentioned off-handedly that when she wrote one of her many brilliant, amazing books she wrote it all in a rush, just page after page. She didn’t write it with an eye for structure. She didn’t write it with a specific linear plot in mind. She wrote it looking for emotion and heart and depth.
I told my…
