as WTAE’s resident meteorologist, sid’s seen his share of weird weather—he’s gleefully trotted out the age old “if you don’t like the weather, just give it a few minutes” line more than he should probably admit—but he’s never seen it as unpredictable as this. bright, searing sunshine without a cloud in the sky to a hail storm in under thirty minutes in JUNE, or a short-lived but violent tornado that ripped through a thankfully empty copse of trees one afternoon in February. luckily while the weather has been weird, it hasn’t been actually harmful, except to sid’s credibility. his predictions are wrong 75% of the time, but it’s not like he can defend himself publicly at all—he’s not looking to cause mass panic by telling the whole of Allegheny County that neither he nor his colleagues can come up with any natural explanation for these weather patterns.

but at least that new coffee shop that’s been under construction for what feels like forever is finally open. sid has what some people would call a massive sweet tooth and what he sees as good work/life balance—he works hard to keep his body camera-ready, and he deserves to balance that with a pastry and a coffee with some caramel drizzle every afternoon.

geno, the man who runs the coffee shop, is maybe the most gorgeous man sid has ever seen. he also speaks maybe 10 words of english outside of what’s on his chalkboard menu, and seems very shy. or maybe just reserved. but he recognized sid from tv and was so excited about it, like sid was a celebrity instead of just a guy who makes dorky weather puns on the news every morning, and now he lights up every time sid comes in.

sid and geno get closer, and as the weather becomes less and less erratic, sid starts noticing a pattern. on the days he spends time with geno, the weather behaves as expected. on the days he doesn’t, more often than not there’s some kind of anomaly. his theory is finally cemented the day they have an argument, and a massive thunderstorm rips through downtown. but only downtown. he doesn’t know how to talk to geno about it though. it sounds crazy.

simultaneously, a russian atmospheric scientist arrives in pittsburgh and asks to consult with sid, claiming to have been sent from the international association to study the weather activity in the area. but it’s clear from the first conversation that this guy is not a scientist, and he’s not particularly interested in the weather itself. he’s looking for what—or who, more likely—is causing it. uh oh.

Reports: Man Attacked Trans Victim with Sword as They Awaited Furry Convention, Screamed ‘Allah Does Not Approve’

A man is accused of attacking a “transgender woman” with a sword inside a Pittsburgh hotel around 1:00 a.m. Thursday.

The incident happened inside the Wyndham Grand Hotel when the victim, a man reportedly living as a woman, was found bloody and calling for help, WTAE reported Friday.

Police officers made contact with the victim in the hotel’s lobby and found blood on the floor and walls of the fifth floor. The victim suffered a severe laceration to his hand and later went to the hospital on his own.

A witness told officials he, the victim, and the suspect were in the city for the Anthrocon Convention, which is “Pittsburgh’s Premier Furry Convention,” according to its website.

So-called “furries” appear to be people dressed as animals. “Join us for our annual convention every summer as we celebrate anthropomorphics, which are human-like animal characters, such as have fascinated mankind since the dawn of human imagination,” the website stated.

A man armed with a shotgun was prevented entry into a predominantly Black Pennsylvania church, possibly thwarting a racially motivated mass shooting.

Police officers received a criminal complaint at 9 a.m. that morning about the incident between the two women and Harris and went to investigate.

“There is a whole lot of mass murders going on, there is shootings, particularly in the African-American community, people targeting our communities,” Crumb said. 

Harris would eventually be confronted by Ambridge police and would point his gun at the officer on the scene. The officer called for backup and, with some assistance, managed to arrest Harris, who now faces several charges, such as aggravated assault and terrorist threats. 

Crystal meth was discovered on Harris’ body after the arrest.

Police later searched Harris’ home and discovered that his porch was covered in slippery lubricant.

Officers even found a weapons case with a drilled hole “creating a tactical position from which the occupant would fire at the front door from a protected position,” according to the report.

A bomb squad was called to Harris’ home to deactivate a device suspected to be an explosive. Later, officers found even more crystal meth, a cache of weapons and a handwritten note detailing plans for a mass shooting.

Harris’ failed attempt was less than 24 hours after a white man in tactical gear killed three Black people inside and outside a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Florida, before turning one of his guns on himself.

In Harris’ case, the bond was set at $975,000. A preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 5.
