Some Bits About Xiangli Yao
Because I've seen a lot of people going "who?" lol and I enjoy the Huaxu affiliation characters.
This includes content from:
Act 1
Baizhi, Jinhsi, Mortefi, Taoqi's profiles
Huaxu Academy NPCs
Huaxu Academy documents
Court of Savantae
To begin, Xiangli Yao serves as the academic leader of Huaxu Academy. He is an expert in Automata Mechanics.
Tumblr media
Mortefi considers him his rival, he wants to outdo him. Those at the academy considers Mortefi #2 to Xiangli Yao. The two "met" years ago at a New Federation's (Mortefi's birth country) World Expo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Taoqi (top) and Baizhi (bottom) lines about him, supports his profile description: "He is a gentle yet rational soul."
Tumblr media
Yao is the person you hear Mortefi calling in the beginning of the story in the Academy, and we enter his room.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That unusual device is definitely for his arm. You can see similar structures in the abandoned Court of Savantae site at Whining Aix Mire. Maybe it means something since the researchers at CSC really needed Automata Mechanics at some point? I hope it does... (https://www.tumblr.com/calcahro/755456668925657088/xiangli-yao-court-of-savantae-goofy)
Tumblr media
He made Jinhsi's electronic To-do list
Tumblr media
The Sugar Pearl Vaccine was tested on him and his mother
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that's all the bits for now, I think. I know some NPCs outside of the academy have mentioned him as well.

In Defense of Geshu Lin’s “Villainy”: A Modest Criticism & Analysis
Tumblr media
Being a character that has only ever been mentioned by others and hallucinated a couple of times by a severely traumatized Doctor-turned-General, it’s no surprise that Geshu Lin has become victim of a number of (admittedly, very extreme) inferences about his character being villainous or downright evil.
This post seeks to argue against these inferences, taking the stance that they were made with limited information or not supported by canon/refuted by canon.
Staring Through A Filtered Lens
There is an unfortunate phenomenon in the Wuthering Waves fanbase where people assume that the Geshu Lin that has been presented to them is the purest, most accurate representation of him, though in reality all instances we have seen of his personality are either:
A. Distorted hallucinations, of which were altered due to Jiyan’s emotional state (ie. The Retroact Rain quest)
Tumblr media
B. Metaphorical representations of Jiyan’s insecurities and almost a form of self punishment/a representation of his self doubt (ie. Jiyan’s character trailer)
youtube
C. A story from a storyteller, who is… a storyteller. Details, of course, are embellished for stories, and the tale mentioned does not go into Geshu Lin’s personality whatsoever; it only demonstrates his actions.
Tumblr media
The Consequences and So On…
I have noticed that many fans believe Geshu Lin hates Jiyan, or detests him to a degree wherein he would exercise genuine cruelty upon him. I oppose this idea immensely—even in Jiyan’s hallucinations (seen in the Retroact Rain quest), Geshu Lin demonstrates some form of respect for him. He would not have asked for Jiyan’s opinion, even in Jiyan’s hallucinations, if he did not care for his opinion or input. I recommend rewatching this for a refresher:
youtube
I also fear a common subtext forgotten in this scene is that Geshu Lin had good reason to be upset at the idea that Jiyan wanted to stop him back during the Battle Beneath the Crescent. At that point, Geshu Lin had directed and watched countless numbers of his men die in war. It’s simply sunk-cost fallacy—if Geshu Lin retreated at that point, he wouldn’t be able to live with the shame of having not been able to avenge his men or, at the very least, proven that their efforts were not in vain.
Tumblr media
Even the words of someone he respected enough to ask the opinion of (Jiyan) was not able to shake him from it—this is a human flaw, something I believe would be unfair to treat as downright villainous or cruel.
Oversimplification Taken as Truth
Geshu Lin did not outright step on his soldiers in order for glory or fame—not once is some ulterior motive of avarice ever implied, except for possibly “I will pave the way to victory with my Forte;” but that can be read as either pride or confidence for the sake of bolstering already low morale. Of course, he was stubborn and arrogant—but to provide him a benefit of the doubt, no one knew what the Retroact Rain was when he was around.
Tumblr media
Who would give up the once in a lifetime (quite literally) chance to avenge hundreds, if not thousands of lives, just because of—as far as Geshu Lin was aware—some bad weather and ghosts? Especially knowing the weight and expectation of being able to make sure countless soldiers’ sacrifices were “worth it” in the end?
Tumblr media
Even taking Jiyan’s hallucinations with a grain of salt, it’s evident that the sacrifices of his men absolutely haunts Geshu Lin. He cannot move on from it. Maybe that grief from the real Geshu Lin in the past is what stuck with Jiyan the most.
Tumblr media
If Geshu Lin ended up retreating, I don’t doubt that he was also the type of person to think that these efforts and sacrifices would have all been for naught, and he would have failed his men. He would never be able to live down that shame.
So What’s His Deal, Really?
I don’t believe a “prideful, greedy, evil man” throws himself alone into the heart of a Threnodian, likely Overclocks, and then banishes said Threnodian out of sheer want to defend his country and its people. If anything, I can only assume his slightly more morally grey stance on war—a much less ideal and somewhat realistic vision of war, that is endless amounts of sacrifice and a series of “terrible but best in the moment with what we have” decisions—makes people uncomfortable and thus, it is insisted that Geshu Lin is somehow inherently evil and it is his personal fault for… well, making the best choices he could during an incredibly terrible circumstance.
Tumblr media
People forget that if Geshu Lin ordered a retreat amidst Ovathrax’s rise, Jinzhou would be no more. Jiyan could only order a retreat because Geshulin sacrificed himself to banish Ovathrax, albeit temporarily enough for the Midnight Rangers to get some breathing room.
Conclusion
Geshu Lin is not a cruel, Jiyan-hating, evil man. He did what he could in the circumstances he was given. The “evil” Geshu Lin we see fighting Jiyan (such as in Jiyan’s character trailer) is almost always a representation of Jiyan’s inner self doubt and shame—never once have we actually directly met or even seen the man in reality, even in flashbacks.
Overall, it seems a bit disservicing to boil down an entire character to a small pinpoint of traits (“hates Jiyan, sacrifices soldiers for his own benefit, evil”), which in itself is due to the distorted perspective of an unstable Jiyan and complicated circumstances. Geshu Lin is a lot more than that.
For all we know, he might even be proud of Jiyan for being able to step up and protect the nation he (assumedly) died for so fervently, and quell Ovathrax (albeit with the help of Rover and Abby) a second time.

SPOILERS FOR WUTHERING WAVES ACT 6: my issue with the reveal of [spoiler] isn't the fact that it even exists, but the fact that it doesn't mesh well with the game's art-style AT ALL.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The idea of Rover's Tacit mark being home to some kind of powerful entity that appears friendly but might have some sinister motives or unknown properties (because let's be real, even in its existing form, this guy is quite suspicious and we know nothing about it) is pretty cool.
But if you look at the existing animals in game, both enemies / echos and NPCs like dogs and cats, the game goes for a more realistic style for most of them. Some are cute, but most look more epic or badass and fit into the apocalyptic and gritty style of the game (even as the game itself wanders away from that). Additionally, all Tacit Discords thus far either mimic real creatures like wolves, bears, boars, or herons, or take the form of mutated humanoids that look deformed and warped, or take the form of mystical creatures, like the Morning Aix.
If they'd leaned towards more of those design elements, creating a sleek creature that still has some cute elements, I feel like this creature would have felt less out-of-place. Perhaps more of a bird-like or even dragon-like design, or a fluffy serpentine dragon (keeping the long fluffy ears and markings) would have worked better. Also making it walk on four legs instead of looking like a marketable plushie.
This isn't even touching on the reveal of this critter. It feels too sudden; I feel like it needed some more foreshadowing (which would have been easier without the story rewrites, yes) like the silhouette of its design being shown, or lore hints about Tacit Marks being home to some kind of conscious entity or power that isn't fully understood yet. Also, it would have hit harder if it felt like the Rover consciously was aware of this guy and summoned it—like if Rover had some kind of vision / hallucination / flashback montage or quick images flashing in their head. Instead it just feels like this guy popped out of nowhere. It also hurts the previous reveal of Havoc Rover, making them seem weak in comparison to this little furby looking guy.
ALSO its color scheme. Tacit Discords thus far seem to be most strongly associated with purple and gold, and Rover matches this, starting off with golden Spectro powers and moving to purple Havoc powers. SO WHY IS THIS GUY WHITE, BLUE, AND ORANGE??? Its color scheme also threw me off a lot 😭
So anyways, that's my take on the matter. What do you guys think?

wuthering waves lore (april 8th, 2024)
this post contains information posted to the official main wuthering waves website around april 8th that provides some background information/lore about the game.
Tumblr media
Solaris-3
Sol-III, the third planet from the sun. A world of chaos and change, where old conventions are discarded and disasters run rampant. Human civilization struggles to survive in this new era of destruction and rebirth, facing uncharted challenges with unwavering determination.
Tumblr media
Waveworn Phenomenon
The Lament's power causes destructive anomalies, such as the "Tacet Fields", "Tacet Discord Outbreaks", and the mysterious matter named "Tacetite". These are collectively known as the "Waveworn Phenomena".
Tumblr media
Tacet Field
The "Tacet Fields" are thought to be where all Tacet Discords originate. These locations feature a sky of inverted seas and a deep cross-shaped Tacet Mark on the ground. Reverberations fill the air, linking our world to an unknown space through a white Resonance Cord. These areas attract gatherings of Tacet Discords.
Tumblr media
Resonator
Individuals with the ability to resonate with certain objects and manipulate their frequencies are known as "Resonators". These individuals exhibit unique "Resonance Abilities", also known as their "Fortes", through the "Tacet Mark" on their bodies. According to experts, a Resonator's abilities are often influenced by their past experiences and subconscious mind.
Tumblr media
Tacet Discord
Tacet Discords, created by the Waveworn Phenomena, are dangerous entities with ever-changing, amorphous forms. They possess "Tacet Cores" and feed on other frequencies to maintain stability and evolve. These creatures mimic their prey's abilities, shapes, and behaviors, influenced by the types of frequency they consume.
Tumblr media
Reverberation
The Waveworn Phenomena is believed to alter matter, information, and energy by converting them into vibrating "frequencies", referred to as "Reverberations". This process has been observed through experimental evidence in the academic community.
Tumblr media
Remnant
In their studies of Waveworn Phenomena, scientists discovered "Tacetite" — a substance that can permanently hold Remnant Energy. The Tacetite can be made into potent weapons for Resonators to combat Tacet Discords. Transdimensional spaces where Remnant Energy is abundant are known as the Sonoro Spheres.

Solaris-3 and the Solar System
Hey, Rovers!
Throughout the game, I’ve noticed some mentions of the solar system of Wuwa, and I wanted to gather it all together along with some theories I have about it. In this first part, I will gather all the references to space I can find, and later make some theories in Part Two, so let’s get to it shall we? But first a disclaimer, I do not own any of the wuwa graphics shown throughout this post, kuro games does. Additionally, this is all speculative work, and I tend to overanalyze things, so take all this knowledge with a grain of salt!
Ch. 1: The References
First, let’s go through all of the mentions, or things I think have to do with space throughout the game.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Goddesses Halo: Although probably purely aesthetic, the goddess’s halo looks to me like a solar system. This halo comprises two sets of co-orbital configured astronomical objects (objects that share the same gravitational path or orbit), and that’s about it. There is suspiciously a lack of central star, unless you count the Goddess as it, along with it seeming to be incomplete. We know that Sol-3 is the third planet away from the Sun, and this model halo only goes two out, so if it is accurate, it isn’t complete. This is also assuming that the Goddess is from the same Solar System or Universe as Sol-3 is.
Tumblr media
(Also I took the time to look at the constellations found in the goddesses' hair. And as far as I can tell there is no EXACT match to any constellations from our world. These are probably also an aesthetic detail, drawn from an artist’s mind, but I wanted to mention them anyway.)
Tumblr media
The Diary: On this Diary, acquired during the Omnious Star main quest, there seems to be a ringed planet, possibly surrounded by six moons or astronomical objects.
Tumblr media
Lunite: This currency seems to be a planet surrounded by a ring, a moon, and two to four stars. In its description, we learn that Sol-3’s moon was shattered a long time ago and is merely a mirage, like how the stars we see in the sky are long dead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lunite Purchasing Menu and Animation: In the images we see above, we can see an artistic rendition or model of … something I suppose. There’s a central gold planet or perhaps a core of a planet, surrounded by the phases of the moon, and another moon? The white crescent could also be a moon, or a planet itself. Surrounding this white part there’s another co-orbital configuration path with a white (or gold in one image) and blue planet and four shining stars. There are also some constellations made up of stars, moons, and suns, which are similar to constellations in our world but not exact.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Lunite Subscription Passes also have a similar image on them, along with the words Month Card, 15, or 7. The central astronomical object changes between them. They also mention a Celestial Observatory in their description.
Tumblr media
Astrite: A star-shaped object with a rather ethereal description
Tumblr media
Tacet Cores: Multiple of the cores for the tacet discords are star-shaped.
Tumblr media
Star Flakes: Star-shaped food rather reminiscent of the shape of tacet fields, cores, and marks. Don’t forget to make a wish after eating some.
Tumblr media
The Icefield Honor Medal: Purely Speculative, but to me there looks to be once again, four stars on it.
There are also some more tacet discord/echo items that are star-shaped, that I didn’t want to gather together. But yeah that’s it for part 1. If there’s anything I missed let me know and I’ll make sure to add it! Anyways, this is me signing out! Toodles!

I like to think that tacet marks are a sort of weak point for resonators
I don't think it's ever been mentioned in game the possibility of one being "ruined" or like... wounded (that's the word I was looking for)... it'd be interesting to see the consequences of such a thing happening, both on the resonant ability (since the tacet mark is kind of a catalyst via which it's used) and the resonator themselves
I also don't remember there being an explicit link (I'm gonna need to look further into this) between the size of the tacet mark and the situation in which the awakening happened or the level of ability of the resonator... I'm gonna need to actually check though, this is just a thought
Then again it also depends on a possible lore reason for tacet marks to be exposed, like you mentioned...
It's an interesting topic to think about
unique places i have seen tacet marks so far being xiangli yao's knuckles and sanhua's eye
neck tacet marks and back tacet marks are interesting, as can some of the chest tacet marks be for the fact that
it's a vulnerable place for a tacet mark to be, especially considering many characters seem to leave these areas open for unbeknownst purposes
the location and size vary, but it's a little horrifying to think about the size of a tacet mark impacting both your level of ability and how giant of a space you need to leave so your tacet mark is exposed enough to be seen.
i imagine having a tacet mark on your neck, particularly in aalto's case, is probably always a subtle concern cause you are unable to cover it up effectively in some cases, and i just feel like you'd become far too aware of the adrenaline pumping in your veins all of a sudden when your tacet mark is right by your jugular.
anyways

[WUTHERING WAVES LORE GUIDE]
Explaining Resonators Part 1 - Overview
This is my first time using Tumblr, please bare with my posting habits lol. I decided to make one of my Twitter threads into a format suitable for Tumblr, Instagram and Tiktok.
———
IMAGE TEXT:
THIS WILL BE VERY LONG. This is a rework of my Twitter thread explanations from a few months ago, pages I created for Fandom Wikia (I'm bureaucrat as of April 21 thanks to the inactive owners yippee), and a somewhat recent post I made for the r/wutheringwaves and r/wuwa_lore (please join it and the WuWa lore Discord linked to it!) If this reaches non mutuals: I am a long time Kuro Game fan! PGR since launch and WuWa since it was initially leaked and unannounced in 2022. I am a part of two lore teams for the game and make guides for it in my free time, mostly on Twitter @ mortefii. For those that already know me I'm putting it here too just to store it so smd.
The Lament changed the laws of Solaris-3, and unique frequencies are now attached to various things. The Lament's power causes destructive anomalies, such as the Tacet Fields, Tacet Discord Outbreaks, and the mysterious matter named Tacetite. These are collectively known as the Waveworn Phenomenon. The Waveworn Phenomena is believed to have altered matter, information, and energy by converting them into vibrating frequencies.
Individuals with the ability to resonate with things in existence and manipulate their frequencies are known as Resonators. These individuals exhibit a Resonance Ability through a symbol, known as the Tacet Mark, on their bodies.
They have unique Resonance Spectrum Patterns that determine their abilities and relates to their Attributes. They are classified by their Rabelle's Curve into one of the following: Natural, Mutant, Congenital, or *Artificial.
According to experts on Solaris-3, a Resonator's abilities are often influenced by their past experiences and subconscious mind.
Every Resonator has a Forte Examination Report that evaluates their status as a Resonator. It consists of two parts: a Resonance Evaluation Report, and an Overclock Diagnostic Report.
They WERE available on Kuro's website as Profile Reveals and Inspection Reports used to promote/introduce a character, but they can all be viewed in-game after obtaining the character if you did not archive them.

A Post-Ovathrax AU Geshu Lin design
Tumblr media
Tried my best to keep the general essence of his original design whilst making him look more disheveled/"back from the grave." Lore, drafts, and design breakdown under the cut:
First Draft Notes
Tried to keep it somewhat loyal to his initial silhouette, maintaining the necklaces and instead burning up one of his arms (hence bandages). While I did like this draft it still felt kind of wishy washy and not at all like an AU version, just more like Geshu Lin if he unbuttoned his shirt LOL
I also burnt the wrong arm in this draft. Geshu is right-handed...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Second (Final) Draft Notes
On the second draft, I decided that Geshu needed a bit more of a solid design motif; all characters have one. Jiyan, for example, is a dragon, Calcharo's is the Tacet corruption, so on.
Geshu on the other hand, has no real theme (at least, from what we've seen of him), so I took it upon myself to take some creative liberties.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
First off, I decided to go with a "cage" sort of theme for his lower half; we can already see this in Geshu's original design, but it's not as heavy-handed about it. I actually doubt it was intentional at all, but given that I already see him as a tragic hero (a man doing his best in a terrible situation, relatively mentally isolated, trapped, etc), I thought it best to enunciate that design aspect to be more "front and center."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next up, the chains; in my head canon for Post-Ovathrax Geshu Lin, this is sort of a design for also a "post prison-break" Geshu Lin.
Hold on; what prison-break?
As far as the general gist goes, his body was found overclocked and comatose by the Jinzhou government after the events of the Battle Beneath the Cresent. Due to public outcry for his crimes and need for a scapegoat after a countless loss of life, he was put under bare minimum care until he awoke, and then imprisoned off the coast of Huanglong.
One thing led to another, and the Fractsidus caught wind of his presence; they attempted to break him out and sway him to their cause given his already close encounter with a Threnodian and an assumed hatred/need for vengeance against Jinzhou, but the operation ultimately failed and Geshu Lin got away. Little did everyone know, his sacrifice to the black flames essentially burnt away his memories and sense of self identity, so he's also an amnesiac as much as the Rover is.
His chains are used both as weapons and as a way to keep his sword with him. I can imagine him using it almost like a chain mace or a way to "grapple" (lasso?) enemies to him. They're also meant to symbolize how he's chained to his life as a warrior and his past (one that he doesn't even remember, no less).
I'm still wishy-washy on whether the broadblade he carries is The broadblade or not; I reckon it was destroyed in his fight with Ovathrax; or rather, his original broadblade was not a physical weapon, but something his Forte allowed him to manifest into physical form due to his strong sense of self identity/self-confidence (seen in the few second-hand accounts we've had about him); but now that his sense of identity is gone, he cannot manifest the original to much success. For now, his weapons are as much of a shell of their former selves as he is, thus lacking luster or intricacy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Third, his bandages. You might've noticed these wrap him head to toe (tits to toe really); Geshu acquired these due to the significant burns he sustained on his body during his sacrifice to the black flames. His right arm sustained the brunt of it, but is mainly covered by his huge sleeve. I believe this is intentional by him so he doesn't stick out as much whilst wandering through Huanglong trying to piece together who he was.
Though for the fun of it, here's what that arm looks like:
Tumblr media
The rest of his bandaged skin under the bandages looks like normal burn scars. His right arm is mutated due to its proximity to the Threnodian in his final moments, which I like to imagine as capable of inflicting mutations in the bodies of resonators, especially overclocking ones who are already physically vulnerable.
Tumblr media
If you want to think about this in an excessively bad-ass manner though, I have an additional headcanon (may or may not be canon to the AU; I think I'll leave it up to interpretation) that his right arm was already severely injured to the point of disintegration by his overclocking; so he ripped an arm straight off of the wings of the Dreamless and took it as his own. In this scenario, the combination of overclocking and absorbing a TD's bodypart as his own is what resulted in the almost complete erasure of his memory.
Tumblr media
Also, for the sake of stacking more badassery because why the fuck not, Dreamless' body is already fractured all over during her first manifestation against the Rover and Jiyan. I like to entertain the idea that she ended up this way (and with her core exposed) because of Geshu's initial encounter with Ovathrax and assumedly Dreamless as well.
If you can't already tell, I love this guy too much. That's all for this post though! Thank you for reading if you managed to get through all of this.

Hello Rovers!
I was looking through the items in game and stumbled upon this music sheet. It's described to be "a product from decades ago" which left me wondering, hey is this music piece an actual music piece from our world?
If so, can it be used to prove Solaris-3 is a post apocalyptic Earth?
Unfortunately I don't have an answer to these questions, because first I need to find the actual music piece. If anyone has any ideas of what it could be, please let me know!
Until then this is me signing off!
