So cool seeing a razorback P51 Mustang still flying! I know the bubble canopy was better in every way, but I think both the Mustang and Jugg looked way cooler with the razorback canopy

Not fandom related, but during President Obama’s speech Wednesday night at the DNC, my sister remarked how he and our dad have similar ears. They are 6th cousins once removed. I found a pic of our dad from his army days in WWII in a similar pose. Is there a resemblance?

The last of the photos. There are so many more though! The last 8 don’t have comments written on the back. I wish they did though. They are some of my favorites in the stack. #wwii #wwiihistory #wwiiphotos #history #teachinghistory #myancestors https://www.instagram.com/p/CEA4MKlphmv/?igshid=1d5ea73vb1sc

Reposted from @amy_nesse_ “I would rather suffer with coffee than be senseless.” ~ Napoleon Bonaparte . Men of the United States Army Air Forces 301st Bombardment Group chatting over coffee & cards in a lovely Casablanca cafe in May of 1943 - captured by Robert Capa (🙌). . Considering how much I miss the simple luxury of a good cup of coffee in a local cafe these past few weeks, I can imagine a cafe like this was of infinite worth to the men of the 301st bomber group before they would soon depart their B17 Fortresses for missions over Tunis, Bizerte, Naples, & Palermo. . No matter the environment, what tomorrow holds, or what has occurred hours before...there’s something about a cup of coffee & conversation that demands to be experienced, savored, & peacefully observed...hence why coffee (or Fika, as we Swedes call it) time is one of God’s great gifts to man. . Also, really want those giant coffee cups! . #WWII #ww2 #1940s #Coffee #Casablanca #usairforce #301stbombergroup #cafe #wwiihistory #wwiiphotos #RobertCapa #historicalphotos #ww2history #wwiibomber #pilots #coffeeandcigarettes #wwiiphotography @eugenelacroix1 #eugenelacroix1 https://www.instagram.com/p/CCgbaM9nBKP/?igshid=8bk1x4o6545w

On December 20th, 1944 - 75 years ago today, The Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) program of WWII ended. Assembled with the help of American pilot, Jackie Cochran and First Lady, Elenor Roosevelt, the WASP program began in 1942 to relieve military pilots for combat missions, ferry new planes from factories to military bases, and assist in combat training. These civil service pilots were subject to the same training as male military pilots and flew every aircraft flown by the US Army Air Force during WWII. When the B-29 Super Fortress was built, two WASP members were recruited to fly it after male pilots were unwilling to take on the intimidating bomber. Between 1942 and 1944, the WASP members delivered over 12,000 aircraft and logged thousands of hours of flight time. Thirty-eight of them lost their lives in accidents, eleven died during training and twenty-seven died during active duty missions. Roughly 25,000 women applied for the WASP program and only 1830 were accepted. Although the majority of the women were white, several were Latina, Native American and Chinese American, including Hazel Ying Lee. Mildred Hemmons Carter, an African American pilot who completed training with the Tuskegee Airmen, was forced to withdraw her application because of her race. All records of the WASP program were classified for 35 years after the war and little remained known about them during that time. Because they were civil service pilots they were not initially eligible for military benefits. Through legislation however, they eventually earned veteran status and several of the pilots have since been buried at Arlington National Cemetery. In 2009, the 300 remaining survivors received the Congressional Gold Medal for their achievements and service to their country. In 2011, Mildred Hemmons Carter was retroactively declared an official member of the WASP program. These fly girls were some badass boss pilots. . . . . #waspwwii #wwii #usaaf #vintagemilitary #ushistory #americanhistory #vintagemilitary #militarystyle #styleinspiration #womensstyle #photography #wwiiphotos #vintagephotos #badass https://www.instagram.com/p/B6ULq5XnVSu/?igshid=jezdb3lrvc9q
