she’s an afro-filipina british teen from ~2008 and her story is basically like… her and her friend have a sleepover and do one of those little “summon a demon for reals 100% legit!!1!1!!” things they find online except by some twist of chance it actually does summon a demon - whos basically the demon equivalent of an emo teen. and they all end up trapped in this strange eternal hell dimension where they’re all their online fursonas (hence the sparkledog form). the specifics of that i haven’t really worked out yet tbh but the overall story is about the three of them both wanting to escape and wanting to stay because of how isolated they feel in the real world (gross oversimplification but yk. i don’t wanna dump the entire lore in here lol). in twix’s case she feels especially lonely irl because of how she feels like her family don’t understand her & she has quite an on-and-off relationship with her mum where she does love twix and they usually get along but they also fight quite a bit over superficial things

There are some which I can figure out on my own (or at least have a very good guess at), such as Mae being from KoMAEda, Eda being from KomaEDA, Kichi being from KoKICHI, Cusp being from the term used for parts of teeth (relating to how he swapped a tooth with Mandible), Lucky from the Ultimate Lucky Student talent, Lockpick from the ability of Kokichis to pick locks, Cotard/Cotard's Corpse from the mental health condition of the same name, and so on.

But what about Bindle? Cookie? Moonpie? Lyra? And other such names? What are their origins?

Like you said, our first inclination is to derive nicknames from their original name, but when you accumulate enough dupes, you quickly run out of ways to do that! As such, derivative names are first come first served. After that, we have to start getting a little more creative, so let's see!

My name is actually also derivative! Kichi and his twin already took Kou and Kichi, but Cookie honestly also came from a pun on my name: Cookiechi! Hence why I use that as my tag for posts. My Amami-chan, who isn't on this blog, goes by Milky to match. Ain't that sweet?

Bindle

Okay, okay! This one's actually a REALLY funny story! See, I picked Bindle 'cause it matches my Ranran's nickname: Duffie, from Duffel Bag! See, they're both names for bags, isn't that cool? Plus, it makes me sound like a vagabond or somethin'!

But anyways, Ranran got that nickname from the doctors at the hospital when he first got here. 'Cause what happened was, he had a habit of sneaking off 'cause he didn't like being stuck in one place for so long. And one time, he stole one of the overnight nurse's duffel bag and then hid in the boiler room, wedged up behind the boiler and then using the bag as a cushion to not get burned.

He was there for like hooooours before anybody found him!

Since I'm the only Akamatsu here, I technically don't need a nickname. Ever since I realized I was from the same universe as Gem and regained my memories, though, I wanted to have a nickname anyway to match his and Kai's.

Kai had already taken Aries, so I couldn't use my astrology sign like he and Gem did, so Aries suggested Lyra, the lyre constellation, for its association with music.

Everyone we've gather so far has been picking out similar nicknames. So far we also have Polaris (Amami, not on this blog) and Ursa Minor (Hoshi).

It was weird getting into the ad biz at the dawn of the Internet.

At first, we had to include websites on ads with “http://www…” so people knew it was a website.

And sometimes also include the AOL keyword.

(And sometimes we had to build secondary, mini-sites just for AOL.)

Then we were able to shorten it to “www…” so people knew it was a website, and also because some sites/browsers/servers weren’t set up to work without it, or it went to an intranet instead. Or naughty places.

I went on a deep dive and researched about where Ochako comes from, the meaning of Deku and Dekiru, and how Izuku's history of being bullied and lack of social interaction could/did affect (which had given me another reason to research about Japan and other topics, and add information to the Notes I had created in the Notes app).

Ochako comes from Mie Prefecture, which is a prefecture of Japan located in the Kansai region of Honshu. The people of this region have their own group of Japanese dialects, and in Japanese, Kansai-Ben is a common name and is called Kinki dialect in technical terms — People in the region pronounce the same way as people in Tokyo, they just change the intonation of the syllables, and use their own words. As much I don't like Ochako, I dont judge her too harsh here. Deku and Dekiru sound similar where she comes from- as I have been told- which ok fair. Some regions in my country can have the same word and two different meanings.

I do side eye her for how she is calling him deku right away...when BK tried to kill him. Guys, his quirk is explosion...and he was aiming at Izu in the test - some would weakly say "he wasnt thinking in killing" which I digress. He was thinking in causing harm to Izu for no reason- and on the exercise (yes, that scene happened before Ochako says deku I think)

And I dont get why Izu would be ok in accept this name. Is bc Ochako is a girl? What if Iida said the same thing?

The scene is iffy to me...Izu should hate the name and wants distance and ...even if Nejire, the prettiest girl of UA, calls him as such using Ochako's words...Izu should have said no. "No. Dont call me that"

But one thing here...why Izu reacts this way to anyone giving a crumble of attention? Legit, all those gag moments make me think of bad scenarios....did the girls ignored him? Was he too afraid to talk to one? @doodlegirl1998 mentioned once how BK could have asked for girls's help to bully Izu...its possible but at the same time...BK is possessive in the sense "only I can abuse Izu"

Sorry I'm ranting here. I legit dont get why Izu acts this way. Ochako IS a stranger to him at this point- still is through- and Izu acts in a lovely dovey mode...blushing and being marvelled a person is talking to him.....dude if this was a shoujo written by someone not Hori (aka competent) this would mean smth...

Here it just feel its mocking Izu. And it gives me the idea no one talked to him in Aldera aside bk ...with his abuse. Which makes sense within cursed canon and god...makes me wonder if bk isolated him for the abuse and if so...why and when? Its scary imaging a 10 years old kid systematically abusing someone like this and knowing what they are doing.
