I have SO many feelings about this!

Of course there are toxic and manipulative elements on both side which is what makes it all very conflicting.

We see Spike upset that she is struggling with station in life reborn, her friends very much unreliable/unsupportive, abandoned by her watcher. He recognizes that she is in a dark place, and being a vampire, doesn't want her to be afraid of the "dark inside her".

And on the opposing end, Buffy sees spike as someone whose not afraid of her confessions, the ugliness she's feeling, the parts she hates about herself. She gets to be free with someone and in her words, "feel something, anything" instead of the horrible numbness she's victim to.
