according to an old Famitsu interview with Sakurai about Ganondorf:
"Ah, yes. I've gotten many complaints about Ganondorf. Why doesn't he use his sword more? Why isn't he as powerful as he is in Zelda? Well, when I decided to add him in Super Smash Brothers, of course he was a late addition included only because his physical appearance was easy enough to model swap over Captain Falcon. So I couldn't do as much justice as I wanted with him, but I worried people would be upset if I left out such an important and striking character. Ganondorf is somewhat of a contradiction---in Smash Brothers, he's both powerful, yet sometimes comes across as a little worn down, a little tired. In a way, he was greatly influenced by my late father who passed away shortly beforehand. As a child, I viewed my father as a strict-disciplinarian, a man I both feared and respected. But when I grew up, I realized my father, that man I was saw as a powerful figure---a king---was often out of breath, and limped along. I wondered why I feared him so much? And in a way, that's how I've developed Ganondorf as a character. Personally I'm quite close to the character, and thus I find it difficult to bring myself to change him too much."
What the fuck? This literally slots right into my headcanon of Smash as taking place in an ultimate super-afterlife. Of COURSE Ganondorf is a tired old man, he has the entire weight of BOTH his timelines on his shoulders! Imagine your universe finally fizzling out such that your spirit can rest, and then the instant you wake you realize you have two sets of contradictory memories, and both of them suck. He was ALREADY a tired old man in WW, of course those memories carry over!
He tried getting back into his conniving scheming habits in order to maybe seize some semblance of power but Tabuu's betrayal broke him. He just kinda Chilled during 4. especially since it was TP Link and Zelda who offered him that grace in Brawl.
The reason he switches back to his OoT design in Ultimate is because it's the youngest he's ever felt since Melee; maybe even better! Which design he's using corresponds directly to how Tired Old Man he is during which era of Smash. Beard = Tired. The reason we can't play as WW Ganon is because he only slips into that form when he's too tired to give a shit even about Smash.
The man loves a good spar, though, of course he'd love to try out fighting both his old enemies and total strangers on a fair battlefield. You know who else likes a good spar? Kirby. Samus. Every Pokémon ever. Super Fucking Mario.
(Headcanon context notes: Smashers and their pals can just do that in my headcanon btw. they're dead, they can present as any age from their history.
The Smashers have existed in the Eternal Nexus for a handful of centuries of paradise and/or healing before establishing Smash, so Ganondorf has had some time to recover from the Everything that is his canon experiences.)

☀ ♕ 回 ◈ ↓ ♣
mun related
☀ ━ how long have you been roleplaying? how did you get into it?
oooh geez uuuuuhhhhhhh five-ish years? My high school friend group started doing it and i was more than happy to do it with them! we ended up making a proboards forum and kept tons of different stories on it, including the mutant verse where Mac, Sara, and all the others came from!
♕ ━ which fictional characters are your favorites?
why would you do this to me lmao umm.... to name a few, i like Bucky Barnes (MCU), Xerxes Break from the manga Pandora Hearts, Mob from Mob Psycho 100, Wall-E (and by extension all the robos from that movie), GLaDOS from Portal, the Shadow King from City of Dreaming Books, and so many more lmao
回 ━ what are your top four favorite shows?
Steven Universe, Star Trek, The Orville, Mob Psycho 100 and One Punch Man, aaaaaaannndddd Firefly was super good. (and Brooklyn 99 though i never keep up with it like i should)
◈  ━ share some headcanons that you have for a muse of your choosing
i’m gonna choose Luca cuz i still need to give him a proper bio and i realize i may not have a lot of information for him up here oops1. He is an amateur scientist, with a friend who is a real scientist and biologist.2. His main goal is to figure out how to modify his body to be bio-luminescent (and has been begging afore mentioned friend for years to help in that endeavor)3. He lost his left arm to said friend’s pet shark, but he doesn’t blame the shark for it. Luca was acting stupid and they were pretty far away from any legit medical help.
↓ ━ have you had any bad experiences with roleplaying?
Yeah...? A while ago I was shipping with someone and we threw in some angst but it ended up destroying the relationship and I wanted to start a new verse or something?? cuz i loved the ship and i didn’t want it to end, but the other mun never really answered me, so we slowly just stopped rping together honestly i still grieve for that ship it was so cute and perfect........................Also when people insult my muses like... thanks, you could just ask for someone different cuz i have plenty to choose from? i will take constructive criticism, but this was not that.
♣ ━ share five random facts about yourself
1. i suck at coming up with random facts.2. i have a (almost) complete collection of Zelda games. The only ones I’m missing are Oracle of Seasons and Skyward Sword (but idk if i’ll get that one cuz i don’t have a wii and it sucks ass anyway)3. My default race and class in any Elder Scrolls game is Dark Elf rogue4. My favorite book in the universe is The City of Dreaming Books (go read it right the fuck now it’s such an orm trip i s2g)5. Open-world exploration games are my shit (can u see why i love Breath of the Wild so much?)

Headcanon of the Hour
Ganondorf is only sort of the incarnation of Demise’s hatred. The curse lingered from ancient times, ready to pounce on any host suitable enough to carry it to fruition. Ganondorf made the perfect host due to his bitterness about the Gerudo’s harsh environment, possible discrimination from the Hylians, and the Twinrova’s subpar childrearing skills. The curse latched onto him in his adolescence, warping his personality and ambitions and making him far more violent and power-hungry than he would have been otherwise.
Bonus round: Ganondorf actually didn’t really like the Twinrova all that much. Before his birth, Koume and Kotake were keeping tabs on the Gerudo population from behind the scenes, waiting for the next male to be born so they could raise him themselves. It happened, and the witches assassinated the mother and claimed the baby for themselves. They proceeded to groom him as the perfect puppet figurehead in their own attempts to rule the desert as regent queens. Ganondorf, being the smart guy he is, managed to figure this out through casually-concealed interrogation and piecing together the clues. He confronted them about this, which gave him yet another injustice to be angry about, pushing him ever deeper into the clutches of Demise’s curse. When the hatred of Demise fully took root, Ganondorf went forward with his own world-domination plans, forcing Koume and Kotake to drop their schemes for now and become defanged suck-ups.

Headcanon of the Hour
Inspired by a TV Tropes WMG and built on from there: The Happy Mask Salesman IS Majora, and also the original composer of the Song of Healing. He used to be an eccentric but generally friendly minor god of arts and crafts in Old Termina, but he slowly went insane. Majora resorted to the only thing he knew could cleanse him--his own music--but his suffering was so great that he Song-of-Healinged Majora’s Mask into existence. He left the mask hidden in his old domain and went to Walk the Earth, selling his masks to support what few needs he has.

Headcanon of the Hour
Vaati’s “corruption by the evil in the hearts of men” was a fascination with the philosophical underpinnings of morality. Of course, since he was basically a kid at the time, he didn’t quite grasp the full enormity of his actions and decided that he could do whatever he wanted in order to get the power to experiment with morality on a large scale.
