So I just finished xiaolin showdown: I wanna talk about it. Spoilers.

I really liked the show! I knew I would thanks to childhood memories of it but I think it holds up alright even today! Imma break it down in what I Did like and what I Didn't like (I think Imma make a different post talking about the Wu). This is longer than I thought it would be. I'm sorry.

What I liked

The Wu themselves, love me magic shit even if they get repetitive at times(fr there are like 4 that just give the power to fly).

I fucking love Jack Spicer and Clay Bailey. They are my boys do you hear me! Love how Jack just won't quit and how Clay is just so painfully Texas. My bois

Love the magic in general! How all die of the main characters get to master their element and get special weapons and gear to help. Wish there was more time to flush all of it out tho ,but hey what can you do(other than post head canons).

Dojo Kanojo Cho

Just his name is fucking amazing, and I did like some of his jokes

And his powers were cool! I wish we could have seen the limits of his shapeshifting powers.

I did like wuya and wish we could have seen her do more witchy things.

Chase Young was also very cool.

I also like panda bubba's design and I kinda wish there was more of him. I wanna do things to him DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT

I already said this BUT I just love how all of them got individual weapons that I don't think were Shen Gong Wu? I think.

Master fung and dojo... Had a very odd relationship. I'm 90% sure they were at least fucking by how dojo acted when he went to a different temple and after that it was just very. Weird.nit Bad weird but still.

Wish we could have seen more of their families. kimono's dad was fucking adorable. I want to fuck her dad

I also liked Jermaine and wish he could have been able to join fully or show up more.

Over all love this show.

What I didn't like

How they treated Jack. Idk man I just thought it was weird how the heros tournamented him so much? Like ya he's a ass but like, y'all are the heros why are you acting borderline worse than him???

I also kinda wish he could have officially joined the xiaolin side, I feel like they alluded to him switching multiple times but then he never does and I think that was a waste.

I really wish we could have seen more of Fung and Omi's relationship. I kinda wish it was more father and son rather than teacher and student since it seems like Omi lived there his entire life.

I also wish we saw more of Fung being badass. I feel there was a lack of that.

I'll say it again, there are a bunch of shen gong wu that kinda just repeat? And some Wu that don't seem like they should be categorize as Wu? Idk I'll make a different post about it bc there a lot to say.

12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them

idk if he's really unpopular but i don't see people talking about Vlad much and honestly? he's great and i'd like to see more of him in fandom, especially since I think he's the closest thing Jack has to an actual friend/partner/equal on the Heylin side. he's like the One person on the heylin side who seems to actually like Jack and hangs out with him just because lmfao

18. it's absolutely criminal that the fandom has been sleeping on…

i mean i feel like i've seen more of him in fics and such over the past few years, but: jermaine. also vlad, as mentioned above. also chuan. also raijack. how does raijack have less than 30 fics on ao3. i'm drowning here.

20. part of canon you found tedious or boring

a lot of the concepts they introduced in the third season tbh. like, i think the third season is fine over all but i don't feel like the elemental shen gong wu or wudai weapons really helped the story much or really added anything of value.

it’s targeted at an older demographic, more young teens rather than kids - think sort of like OG teen titans vibes

with this comes more mature themes, and their challenges and traumas and all that jazz are explored a lot more deeply than they were in xs (i.e. rai having been possessed multiple times??? let’s explore how that fucks him up)

there are musical numbers and let’s have alan menken write them, why not

rai muttering stuff in portuguese. rai sometimes forgetting the english for stuff. just... bilingual rai, gimme

rai gets to stay the leader and shoku warrior, boy earned that

kimiko and clay get complex storylines and lots of character growth and it’s wonderful

jack is a decent villain in his own right and not just comic relief like he was reduced to in s3

we see little ‘slice of life’ monk moments to solidify their relationships. little things about them living together, growing together. clay growing facial hair, rai being jealous bc he doesn’t have any yet and he wants to be Manly(TM)

I don't know if this is a headcannon or me just thinking out loud, but I get the feeling that one reason they added a Dragon of Wood in Chronicles over Metal, and why a future iteration of XS may never have one, is that fights with Jack would be way too easy. Like, can you imagine him sending his robots after someone who can control metal? It'd be more of a cakewalk then Jack was already reduced to by season 3. He'd have to find some workaround like plastic bots or a special alloy or something

That makes sense!

In practice, the series had reduced Jackbots themselves to fodder by season 3, but things like Jack's spying tech or vehicles were still useful, and if there was a character (who isn't Jack) who could control metal, it'd be very difficult to keep even those in play. I'd buy that that went into them choosing not to add Metal to the roster because that'd be tricky with an evil mech villain.

They could get around that if the dragon of Metal was just really bad at it, or if, like you said, Jack started using some non-metal alloy.

Or... if we want to have a non-Jack dragon of Metal and have Jack still be a viable villain, there's another route.

Clay controls rock and earth. But he has absolutely no power over any of the rock golems or earth dungeons that Wuya uses on them. Clay's absolutely helpless while the rock cages are crushing them to death.

There's apparently a way for Heylin witch magic to just completely nullify a dragon-in-training's control over the element.

So imagine if someone, maybe Jermaine, maybe Jesse, who knows, joined the temple who could control metal. And Jack, who'se robots have already been treated more and more as a joke, is practically helpless in the face of this kryptonite of a power.

And necessity is the mother of invention.

And Jack finally, through some mystical method, maybe through Wuya's tutelage or through something involving Hannibal or some power-stealing thing or just some breakthrough, creates the next generation of Jackbots, which are more akin of a metallic, robotic version of Wuya's golems than they are to actual robots.

(The bad future already implies that he managed to somehow get access to Wuya's sealed powers and steal them for himself, since he has her golems now, so it's not unfeasible in the established lore.)

Then Jack would have bots that have the same immunity/resistance to the Metal Dragon as Wuya's soldiers have to the Earth Dragon, and the stakes would have raised on the Heylin side in accordance to the Xiaolin side getting a new member.

It would open the door to some interesting world building and power scaling, and it would give Jack some agency in fighting to get his relevance back and put himself back on the playing field with everyone else. It even better matches his design ethos of personally clawing his way uphill with genius and ingenuity since fate won't throw him any bones.

I'm happy that Jermaine and Omi, my two favorite monks, have both trained under Chase Young, my favorite villain. And they're the only people Chase seriously trained and passed on anything to! (Even if training Jermaine was a gambit to get to Omi.)

Ikr! Like, the fact that Jermaine is a formidable warrior is just so cool. Chase definitely have high requirements for his potential students XD and I found it pretty funny that Chase Young is actually a very good martial art teacher compare to the adults we've seen so far in XS, his lessons is straight to the point and very effective!

And also, I kinda wish that we had an episode with Jermaine's pov. The whole Chase thing really affected him a lot and I really want to see more of it, like, what made him trust Chase in the first place and become a monk in training? And why did he decided to go back after finding out the truth? What did he felt about his martial art training, the shen gong wu, the other monks?? Chase?? Man, I really want to know.
