On their second album 之 / OF, they combine animal calls with stuttering analog synths, warped violin, and contemplative pluckings from a guqin, an incredibly subtle and quiet Chinese string instrument. A visual artist as much as a musician, Li Yilei made a series of intricate ceramic xun—a traditional Chinese vessel flute—to sell along with the album. While those have long since sold out, you can hear the instrument in action on “XUN,” a hypnotic cut."

A Familiar Face 2

The three Cofagrigus stopped in their tracks. Their faces ripe with confusion as Yemir turned to face them with an amused look on her face. “What? You nuggets think I never had a child? Ol’ Granny Bao hasn’t told ya much about me.” Yemir snickered. As if on cue, Baozhai walked past her followers, arms behind her back. The snow did little to obscure the unamusemed look on the empress’ face. 

“For the last time, Yemir. Stop calling me that.” The Cofagrigus growled. Yemir merely snickered at the undead queen. “Ah c’mon. I’ve been calling ya that fer quite some time now. Don’t tell me the only reason yer annoyed about it now is because ya got company?” Yemir points at the three followers with a wry grin. Baozhai’s glare just intensified, not only at Yemir, but the tall hooded figure beside her. And what did Baozhai have to say to this individual. One word. “Annabelle.” The armored spirit spat out like an irritating lump lodged in her throat.

The other Cofagrigus raised their brows. It was obvious at this point that not only did Yemir know this individual, but Baozhai did as well.This Annabelle merely laughed. Her voice was gentle, yet, unsettling. A finger gently tracing its way down the edge of your spine. “Ah, my apologies, Baozhai. Had I known you were here. I wouldn’t have been so… Shy in my approach. Your follower certainly is as perceptive as he is paranoid.” The hooded figure teased, staring at Xun. The tall rogue merely avoided Annabelle’s eyes, taking his gaze elsewhere while muttering something to himself.

“You still haven’t told us why you’re here.” Baozhai grunted, her face unmoving as Annabelle merely let out a short sigh. “Ah, mother certainly was right about your attitude.” The tall woman explained as she pulled back her hood. Giving the Cofagrigus a good look at her face while Baozhai just turned her attention to Yemir. The reduced giant could feel that stare pierce into her heart like an arrow. Yemir didn’t like it one bit. Scooting a bit back towards her daughter. 

“Since I’m the topic of conversation right now, allow me to clarify.” Annabelle stated as she suddenly bent down, wrapping her slender fingers around Yemir before hoisting her up like a child. Yemir, needless to say, had a less than enthusiastic face about this. She didn’t care much for being held up like a small child. Especially in the company of Baozhai and her own daughter.

“I share a deep connection with my mother. I can feel what’s happening to her, albeit on a reduced level. However, not too long ago. I had developed a rather intense and severe migraine. Naturally, this left me worried for the safety of my mother’s well being. Plus it has been some time since I last saw her. Back when I was a mere Kirlia. I felt that I have much to learn from my mother. Besides, father worries for my mother so. Upon laying eyes on my dear mum, well… I’d say this more than qualifies for a visit.” Annabelle pointed out as she held out Yemir further.

“Thus, I find myself here. My mother, known for her massive size and strength, reduced to the size of a small child. And then there’s you and your little followers. Seemingly holding my mother against her will. I apologize for my rudeness, but… What. Happened. To. My. Mother?” Annabelle growled menacingly.
