Postcards from Snagglepuss
What a way for summer to segue unto autumn!
Such, dear and gentle reader, is the sentiment Crazy Claws hath in explaining the, shall we say, rationale behind the Wo-Zha-Wa festival in Wisconsin Dells over the weekend just concluded.
As if our Character Convocation coincident with Wo-Zha-Wa pre-pandemic wasn't interesting and facinating enow (replete with the Cattanooga Cats pulling off a concert in the face of a light rain shower and yours truly being interviewed by Honey and Sis vis shortwave worldcast), I can't help but wait out the fall interlude into the winter ahead here at Crazy Claws' Lake Delton retreat.
Which, this year, also finds my new travelling compadre, Huckleberry Hound, as well as Yakky Doodle, Chopper, Pixie and Dixie and even Touché Turtle and Dum-Dum--oh yes, and the Hair Bear Bunch--killing some otherwise wasted late-summer/early autumn time at the Dells region's autumnal confab. And for some reason, our appearance tends to be one of mixing it up with visitors as much along The Broadway as at the arts and crafts fair at Bowman Park.
For the madcap ursine trio of Hair, Square and Bubi, for some reason "meet-and-greets" seem to be more the fashion with them. Many of you must be amused with their parade appearances in walkabout, posing for photos or selfies and requesting autographs--bear hugs, even!--which can certainly make them crowd favourites. And even if it was over some burgers at the legendary Monk's Bar, the crowds couldn't certainly resist their presence as much as mine.
Or even on Sunday morning at Mr. Pancake; who could find their pancakes and waffles all the more irresistable, washed down with some rather decent coffee, tea even, prior to the parade?! Or even before the parade downtown, when Touché and Dum-Dum pulled off a few sparring matches with the fencing foils to the amusement of spectators?
Yet one rather interesting thing was to ensue out of the Sunday: getting some soup done up in the slow cooker for the sundown dinner, replete with some crusty-like ciabattas to dunk in the soup. How else to kill time on a somewhat autumnal-type Sunday in Wisconsin?

DUCKVEMBER 12: Childhood & Mother Duck
Shut it, Alfy, it ain't about your opinion.
But yes, as a huge HB fan it felt only appropriate to mix my newer love of Jellystone! with my love of the og Yakky Doodle series. So have my own redesign of Alfy Gator as well.

17/?? Childhood TV Shows You Should Watch
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Title: Yakky Doodle
Episodes: 31
Synopsis:
Yakky Doodle is a duckling who lives with his best friend and adoptive father Chopper the bulldog. Yakky is always one to run into danger. This usually comes in the form of the show's main antagonist Fibber Fox or secondary villain Alfy Gator. Chopper defends his "Little Buddy" fiercely, and is always ready to pound Fibber or any other enemy into oblivion if necessary. Yakky's tendency to put himself in great danger never draws a rebuke from Chopper, who presumably enjoys his protective role.
My Rating: 8/10
My Reasoning:
I really loved this show. I think I liked the whole cat-and-mouse concept but used with different animals. It was a lot like Tom and Jerry but also different. That always appealed to me. I also found Yakky to be really loveable even though he always just put himself in harm's way (which is a bit annoying, to be honest).
Overall, it's a good show and I find it entertaining. I think everyone should at least check it out especially if you like shows like Tom and Jerry and that type of old-school vibe cartoons.

Not full-size, and not sure if Deebs plans to post it on DA for all to see, but here: a gigantic drawing featuring twenty Hanna-Barbera characters enjoying themselves at a park. @fini-mun, terrific artist that they are, was up to the challenge and whipped up this marvel, drawn in the vein of the classic limited-edition artwork made available during the 1980s and 1990s.
Thanks again for everything, Deebs!

Postcards from Snagglepuss
Onward into the fall
Roll call, as taken by Huckleberry Hound as we were filling the motorhome with diesel fuel:
"OK, let's see here--Yakky Doodle?"
"Here!"
"Chopper?"
"Here!"
"Pixie and Dixie?"
"HERE!" (said in unison, and with a slight singsong)
"Touché Turtle?"
"Present and accounted for!"
"Dum-Dum?"
"Where else could I be if I wasn't here?" (Laughs all around)
Once the tank was fuelled up and things squared away, our motley little motorhome crew were off, heading into our fall adventures as were pretty much a few weeks over the fall with Crazy Claws at his retreat on the legendary artificial waters of Artificial Lake Delton by Wisconsin Dells even ... not to mention doing a few preparations for the winter diving experience Huck and I would be having with no less than the Peter Potamus Magic Divers, in the Divers' Delight even (as was formerly the Jolly Rodger from Yogi's Treasure Hunt, which you'll recall Huck and yours truly being among the crew of).
And perhaps one of my beloved favourite routings, along Highway 61 no less, the Great River Road even in her afternoon splendour of a mild autumnal-like afternoon as was enough to see the windows open and get some fresh air besides ... the splendour being somewhat evident as we spent a few minootas admiring the view from the Garvin Heights overlook at Winona. And you could spot a few tourists in the bargain there, too, and considering that, Chopper had to have Yakky on his shoulder and Huck took up Pixie and Dixie so tourists wouldn't accidntally step on such.
As for the tourists there ... selfie opportunity time in and of itself, with the panorama of Winona and the bluffs on the Wisconsin side below!
As we headed downhill, no less than Yakky Doodle couldn't resist describing the sheer beauty inherent for a late summer's afternoon. Admittedly, it's a little on the early side for fall colour, but you can certainly admit that when the time comes, the sensation therefor is sure to be sensational around these parts!
Arrival in La Crosse, at one of my beloved haunts even, the old North Country Steak Buffet ... as if all-you-can-eat steaks, steakburgers and grilled chicken breast weren't good enough, plenty of buffet-type schtick as well. Soup and salad bar, Mexican station, even dessert stations as well--which, even for that hilariously clumsy turtle known as Touché, couldn't be more irresistible. Touché's boon compadre, Dum-Dum, for his part, couldn't resist waxing amusingly in his own way about houseboating it with Bristlehound on the Mississippi, just partaking of tavern-style food (especially Friday fish fry) and relaxing the night on a sandbar somewhere on the river ... and Huckleberry taking stock of the halfway legendary home cooking on the buffet, even to where it meant seasoning the macaroni and cheese with Canadian steak seasoning.
"Which," Huck remarked, "does add some interesting flavour in its own way which common salt and pepper don't seem to provide."
Chopper, for his part, couldn't help but mention where some especially worthwhile seasonings sold under the name Pleasoning came out of that wonderful town, and might it be worthwhile, once our buffet was out of the way, to stock up on some ... request granted, even if the place that makes Pleasoning was starting to wind things down for the day. Not to mention picking up such not only for the road, but also to surprise Crazy Claws as well. And since the idea was to select only one especially worthwhile and versatile variety--well, you'll probably want to wait for the next such missive in this space to learn all.

One case of the gender swaps that I find so sweet in Jellystone! is Yakky Doodle and Chopper’s, purely because it retroactively gives the Yakky a “finalized” case, so to speak.
Throughout the original Yakky Doodle series, Yakky was always trying to find his “mama”, and that was causing so much trouble for him, with Chopper being the guardian trying to get him out of trouble, to the point of even faking not being his friend just to protect his friend. And now look at the two of them for Jellystone: simply with that gender swap, Yakky finally has a “mama”, and it’s Chopper this whole time.
