#sundayvibes and these #suntorywhisky 25 and 30 year old #whiskies in all reality did not increase in value tremendously over the last 5 years, they went up but nothing dramatically like #bourbon whiskies did. I guess a smaller group buys these bottles, so demand not insane. Other #suntorywhisky bottles did jump the #hibiki 12 and 17 #kachofugetsu popped nicely. The #yamazaki sherry cask and #mizunara bottles demand top dollar, and the #Hakushu whiskies went up a tiny bit, mainly the Hakushu #sherrycask. #Hibiki30, right up there with the best of them. The balance in this #whisky is exquisite - something 30yr old whiskies often struggle with. Honey aromas lead the way with touch of pepper spice develop mid nosing and sweetness returns late in the form of dried fruits. The palate again gives a quick burst of toffee and pepper and cinnamon spice. Just as you think spices will dominate apricot sweetness and sherry hints breaks through to round out an amazing experience. There is also a very subtle hint of incense in the background. The finish is long with superbly balanced with sweetness and spices. When I bought this for my brother five years ago, it was at the Tokyo airport. I was coming back from the US, and arrived at the airport in the dead of th might, tired and groggy. He'd asked me to look for a Yamazaki 25YO, expecting it to be about RM1.5k. I landed, staggered into the duty free shop, picked up the first bottle of Yamazaki 25YYO i saw, swiped my card without checking the price, and stumbled back to the plane. The next morning, I checked my receipt and reslised that it actually cost RM3k. Gah. Five years later, I'm sipping this beast of a sherry bonb once more, which now costs upwards of RM15k per bottle. Getting into this 4 years ago really was a gamble as an alternative investment strategy, and I got to say, so far so good.
