Midweek matters #2 Is there some clarity among the chaos?

So here we are again.

Our fith manager since January 1st 2023 has left the club.

I am old and have been around this club decades. I grew up on Dave Willis, Paul Humphreys, Jim Watson, Gary Clipston and then Brett Whaley. That's the same number of Managers from moving into the Drove (1992 to 2015) as we have had in 592 days.

Good managers, Yaxley Football Club people who drove the team to out achieve the budget and level of support it generated.

We were punching about our weight getting into the UCL and then famously got promoted to the Prem.

The portakabin that stood where the main building is now was rocking as the loyal band of players and small group of fans bonded, celebrating each win at step 5 as if it were to be cherished.

We then had the Jeff Lenton take over. He put a banner up outside the POSH ground, there was no lack of ambition!

He promised Southern League football for the club and despite it taking 18 years by which time he was looking for less not more invovlement day to day (for thoroughly acceptable reasons) Andy Furnell got us to the promised land.

As we have said so many times before that promotion to Step 4 and the lockdowns killed us in so many ways.

The club could not generate revenue and relations between the junior and senior section deteriorated during that Covid period.

Through in the move to the Nothern League and the Sammy Mould debacle and you think things just about couldn't get worse.

But the news that Simon Roberts had been sacked was a new level.

Robbo (along with Lloyd Burton) took that side of journeymen on when Sammy left and got us through to the end of a horrible season.

He also took on the job last season at step 5 and almost got us into the play offs.

Naturally, there has been a dip. A number of players left (for better money no doubt) and the start has been slow.

But with Yaxley and Peterborough City only merging in the summer there is plenty of mitigation I would suggest.

It will be interesting to see what happens next.

Will Wilks be the long term successor or is he just holding the fort until the club (who are forming their committee tomorrow night) announce a new Manager or open up an application process.

New HP OC Introductions

Okay so these three are revived ocs from a long long time ago (like some of my original Harry Potter ocs), huge thanks to @randomestfandoms-ocs for hearing me talk about them for the past couple days and for helping (they are all Slytherins when I first made HP ocs I only made Slytherin’s and I did not wanna change that for these guys)

Jacqueline Yaxley (Inde Navarrette FC), Catherine Ainsworth ship. Pureblood, Slytherin. Daughter of Corban Yaxley, she has been raised by deeply devoted Death Eater parents that do not settle for less than perfection. She has been raised with all the “right” people, and any time she steps out of line it is swiftly dealt with, which unfortunately for her is often. She knows her place is supposed to be with other purebloods, not mingling with muggleborns and blood traitors. But when Harry Potter starts Hogwarts and things get more and more serious, Jacqueline needs to decide what side she’s truly taking

Daniel Potter (Jack Wolfe FC), George Weasley ship. Half-blood, Slytherin. Daniel was born just after James and Lily graduated Hogwarts, he was three years old when he lost his parents and his baby brother forever. Daniel wasn’t part of the prophecy, so Dumbledore didn’t send him to his aunt and uncle and frankly, didn’t worry too much about it. He’d go with Sirius like James and Lily intended. Except Sirius didn’t get to take him, instead Sirius tracked down Peter and, by all accounts, killed him. So Mary Macdonald, already dealing with the grief of losing her friends, decided to take Daniel in. And she raised him, telling him everything about his family and when Daniel went to Hogwarts, he made friends, he didn’t care for being just “The Brother of The Boy Who Lived” but he was happy enough. When it was time for Harry to finally start, no one was more excited than Daniel, he finally could meet the brother he’s been waiting a lifetime to see.

Evanora Malfoy (Maddie Hasson FC), Potentially James Potter and Lily Evans ship. Pureblood and Slytherin. The younger sister of Lucius Malfoy, Evanora’s whole life had been decided from the moment she was born. She would marry Rabastan Lestrange, continue the pureblood family line and be the perfect wife. She didn’t have a choice in the matter and why would she want to? Her parents knew best. But then she gets paired with Lily Evans for potions, and though she knows she should request a change since Lily is a muggleborn, she is also the smartest in their class, and good grades are very important. So she stays, which may end up changing her life.

There is potentially a Salazar Slytherin descendant I’m working on and I’m sure I’ll think of more at some point but these are the three revived (and heavily reworked) ocs

About Barbara:

Barbara was five years old when her father died in a car crash. She remembers him best out of the sisters and misses him greatly. Despite the tragic loss, Barbs considers her childhood relatively happy, helping her mum at the shop and with her sisters. She has a generally positive outlook on life, though she feels responsible for her family, and it weighs on her. She rarely talks about it though, keeping it to herself. As the only witch of the family, her sisters are often jealous of her, though their mother is of the mind that there is more than one kind of magic out there.

At Hogwarts Barbara is sorted in Hufflepuff, which suits her, as she is fiercely loyal to the people she cares about. The Yaxley parents never had high hopes for their children, apart from marrying them off to push the family into better financial standing. Valencia’s betrothal to Lucius Malfoy was decided upon before they were halfway through school. They were deemed a suitable match, with the Malfoys relieved to have a reputable family and the Yaxleys overjoyed to have found a family that would push them out of the middle class.

The situation was ideal in Valencia’s mind until Narcissa ruined everything. Valencia lost plans of a wedding and luxurious lifestyle to rumors that Lucius and Narcissa were seeing each other. Worse yet, there was evidence of the two caught in a tender embrace. It was enough to make Valencia see red, undermined by someone they would have considered a friend. The Malfoys pulled out of their end of the betrothal, leaving the Yaxleys scrambling to find a new spouse for Valencia. The scorned spouse-to-be wasn’t allowed to share their concerns and was left frustrated at not having a say in their life.

Valencia feels trapped, and there is nothing they can do about it. Narcissa is living the life they wanted and their jealousy is unshakable. Valencia is constantly bitter about it, determined to reveal the scheming that Narcissa did to get Lucius. It might not change things for their current hand at life, but it will bring Narcissa down a peg or two.

Vincent Crabbe - Valencia had no interest in them whatsoever. The Crabbes were the only family that considered Valencia a suitable spouse for their heir, with the Yaxleys eager to rush into a wedding before the Crabbes got cold feet. Valencia is unhappy and had hoped a child with Vincent would be enough to improve their current situation. Vincent Jr. only added to Valencia's depressing feeling when thinking about family.

Narcissa Malfoy - Narcissa has the life that Valencia was supposed to have, married to Lucius Malfoy when Valencia should have been their spouse. Valencia is incredibly bitter and does not like Narcissa in the slightest.

Lucius Malfoy - Lucius was supposed to be their doting spouse before Narcissa tricked them into a compromising position. Valencia doesn’t blame them and is determined to reveal the truth to the world. Maybe then that will mean winning Lucius back.
