(Yellowjacketsposting again) I love Shaunajackie to bits, but I am honestly completely unbothered by it not being canon. In this context? In a show where we already have canon f/f ships and are generally drowning in sapphic pairings with incredible chemistry? I don't mind! I feel like it's just... so true to the experience of queer girlhood that it goes unrealised. Sometimes you're a teenager and you're in love with your best friend and it makes you act in crazy, horrible ways. And you never realise why you feel this way - because there's no language for it. And even if there is, you can't face up to your own difference. Not yet. You're not ready. So you sleep with her boyfriend - because that's allowed, kind of. You fight - because hurting her is a kind of intimacy, right? And she becomes this gap in you, this thing that could have been. This path not taken. The things you know you're not supposed to think. Anyway fingers crossed for a '2021 Shauna realises she's queer and has to deal with that' arc.

callie yellowjackets character development is soo insane like i was annoyed with her most of s1 and now im hooting and hollering stomping my feet when she appears on screen. she truly has shaunas slay in her blood

while im yellowjacketsposting there is so much racism going into the storylines in this show in particular tai's but also lottie's and their positioning as the two closest to the supernatural/wilderness is not the best choice considering they're the two major characters of color.

also respectfully tawny cypress is a talented actress who does a great job crafting adult tai's character but the show is much stingier with giving adult tai interiority so a lot of it is just face journeys.

additionally and furthermore new jersey elected a black woman to the state senate in 2002 and another in 2007 (edit there was also a senator turner elected in 1998 who is also a black woman lol) and they are currently still holding office. unless the spirit of the wilderness made significant changes to the new jersey electorate for twenty five years, tai wouldn't be the first new jersey black woman state senator. it's a small slip that reveals a bigger lack of attention to the finer details of what taissa turner's life might look like as a gay black woman in new jersey politics in the 2020s.

at the end of the day the best written characters (aka the characters that have clearly had the most attention lavished on them by the writers) are shauna and misty which suggests that at its core yellowjackets is most interested in the lives and journeys of white middle class cisgender women in relationships with men that have a darkness in them.
